While I don't believe in New Year's resolutions at all, I decided that in 2010, maybe it's time that I set some goals. I suppose that most of these are subjective to how I feel about them when the year is over, but maybe that's the way it needs to be for me to be ok with having them. They are subject to change, me not caring anymore, and over-achievement. I'm kind of OK with whatever happens, but thought I should at least set down in print what I think I should do with my 32nd year on this earth. So, here goes:
0) Be the best wife that I can be: this is high enough in priority for me that it needs to be more than a "1";
1) Get a job: not really optional, but a goal none-the-less;
2) Go to the gym more so that I feel stronger: I'm not over-concerned with my weight, but I do want to feel healthier and stronger buy the end of the year than I do now;
3) Finish my long-term to do list that I have been working on while I have been unemployed: I have gotten most of the large ticket items done, but still have a bunch of smaller items left that I want to make sure not to forget about, even if I do get said job;
4) Read more: I read a lot, but I'd like to do more than I have been in the last couple months;
5) Sew more: I'd like to get better/faster/more knowledgeable and the only way to do that is to do it;
6) Make at least one costume this year: probably for Dickens Fair, given how slow I am, but in conjunction with goal #5, I'd like to make sure that I get through at least 1 full project of something really cool;
7) Keep up the traveling: I love how much traveling I was able to do this year thanks to my lack of job - I need to find a way to be able to keep that up and still maintain employment, especially as my friends have scattered to the four corners of this country and I really want to go see them all;
8) Continue my trend of buying less, and using what I have more: I have some really cool, well made stuff in my life, I should use that stuff as much as possible and covet new things less (I do not need an entire Christmas themed plate set, I have perfectly good China);
9) Cook more: In accordance with #8, I have awesome cookbooks and pretty much top of the line cooking equipment; I should expand my repertoire as much as possible;
10) Make a conscious decision to be happier: It's all in your head. I need to sometimes just STFU and choose to be satisfied with whatever the given situation is. All work sucks, that's why they call it work. Find one that sucks less than normal and just be happy that I am now able to finance traveling etc;
And lastly, but possible more important that 8 of the above,
11) Be at least a fair chunk more out of debt than I am right now by the end of the year: This is going to mean buckling down as much as possible and being as responsible with my money as I have been while I have been out of work. I think if I continue the mind-set that I have been running with for the last 10 months, I may have a chance this year.
Ok, we'll see how that goes. I guess I'll maybe try and check in every quarter and see how it is going (this will also help remind me in case I get off target). I'm not gonna stress myself out with these, but it seems like a good idea to try and figure out what direction I should be going in.
