I love my job. I think it's pretty cool to work where I work and do what I do... If I actually have to do it (which I do).
I wish I could get paid heap loads of money to be eclectic and to learn all the time, and to do projects and art.
Today is *very* unproductive, as you can imagine.
Got here at 10:30 after a doctor's appointment and went into the opps review, which took me until 1:00. Since then, I have checked my e-mail, vaguely caught up on people's blogs that I read, and had a conversation with a couple people that I didn't fully understand, given my lack of awake brain cells today.
I guess I will have to make sure that the rest of the week is really productive to make up for it...
If anyone hears of any benefactors that would like to donate a bunch of cash to a good cause, let me know.
BRINGING NEVERWHERE TO COMICS
As previously kind of announced by Neil Gaiman on his webblog, and officially announced at today’s Vertigo panel at san Diego, Vertigo will publish a nine issue adaptation of his novel Neverwhere, scripted by Mike Carey, with art by Glenn Fabry. The miniseries is slated to begin in November.

New Line to Adapt Gaiman's Death Source:
Variety has announced that New Line Cinema has picked up feature rights to Neil Gaiman's graphic novel "Death: The High Cost of Living". Gaiman is in talks to make his directorial debut on the film.
Gaiman wrote the script based on his own work. The project is currently titled Death's Day.
The story involves a teenager named Sexton who's been contemplating suicide. He is rescued by a mysterious teenager who claims she is Death herself, spending one day every 100 years on earth to learn the value of the lives she takes.
The film takes place over 24 hours as Sexton learns to love life by spending a day with Death.
The return of RISING STARS
Comic book will release its final three issues by January 2005
After nearly two years in limbo, fans of J. Michael Straczynski's RISING STARS comic book series have been given the news they've been waiting for: publisher Top Cow has announced when the final three issues of the maxi-series will be published. News from the front lines
Hey there peeps. Sorry for the long absence, but I was busy having fun. Friday was a hoot, saw Keeanu Reeves talk and Jessica Beil (BTW, Blade 3 actually looks pretty kick ass and Constantine looks good too). That weird movie you see things about, Sky Captain and the world of Tomorrow - Go see it when it comes out later this year. It is amazing. The trailers look old school and lame, but it is one of the most innovative things out there right now.
Crystal method RULES, Oakenfold sucked and we left at 2:00 am, in the middle of his set because it wasn;t worth staying up for. I have heard that his shows can be quite good, so maybe I'll give him one more shot, when I am not so tired, but this one was not very good.
Saturday was cool - Farscape and Stargate Panels were rad, and I saw SMG (Buffy) talk. She's a bimbo. Anyway, good overall day, then went to the masquerade at night (hence no blog in a while), which was entertaining and I may actually enter some year.
Today was very cool - saw the Serenity Panel. Everyone needs to watch the short lived, one season of firefly, because this movie looks like it will really kick ass.
Driving home tomorrow, and should be home sometime in the 8:00 range.
Hope you are all well, and a shout out and a hug to Wendy, who I miss very much and have silly presents for.

Thursday.
Today was pretty cool for a Thursday. I got some Dragonlance original art, saw a couple of panels, saw Jime Lee, and watched a really great artist paing Gandalf in 50 minutes. It was beautiful.
Tomorrow, I see Neil, and maybe Keanu if I my timing is good, and then we're off to see the Crystal Method and Paul Oakenfold!

Today and RSS Feeds
hey, so today was fun. The drive went really quickly and preview night was successful with some new original art. I also was VERY stoked to find out that Paul Oakenfold and the Crystal Method are playing down here, a couple blocks away, on Friday. Needles to say, I jumped for joy that I got to SDCC and TCM all at the same time, and then bought tickets.
We get chareg for time here on the phone so I may post only a few times... kinda lame for an expensive hotel, but the beds *are* heavenly, as advertised.
As for RSS, you can find the Atom feed on the right there, abd I think that one of the other things has an rss version of some sort,l but every feeder that I have tried has failed for some reason. If it's importantg enough, which it is looking like it is, I will pay the $15 and get a feeder to do it professionally for us. mAny recommendations?

Maroon 5 did a re-maike of "Closer" by NIN. I think that it was flattering that they did it, and it's an interesting interpretation, being acoustic, but it's a far and sad cry from the original (see "::Groove::" for a screamable-in-your-car version).

One Way of Promoting Traffic Safety...
PRAGUE (Reuters) - A Czech police officer took a police campaign to cut traffic accidents a little too far when he shot at a pedestrian who crossed a road on a red light.
The policeman in the western city of Pilsen first fired a warning shot in the air. But when the man refused to return to the pavement, the officer shot at him twice but missed, the online edition of the Czech daily Pravo said.
No one was injured. The police officer faces a criminal investigation.
Canada and New Zealand are looking way better than anywhere in Europe at this point...
Hectic, but enjoyable day
Today seems like it was like 3 days. My class was very useful for once - I kinda want to put any information that I have and all catalogs that I could ever want to do into Access now, which is cool. I have 2 more classes to take in this and then a super advanced Excel class before I am a database pro, but that will all happen soon. I got to hang out at my class with a person from our IT department, which was also cool.
That was one whole day.
Then I went to Apple to visit Wendy and get beads from her and then to drop things off to people who could probably use them a lot more than I can. Lots of running around doing errands.
That was another whole day.
Now I am home, finishing packing and cleaning before I leave, and embarking on a whole other day. Hopefully I will use the next 6.5 hours before I *must*sleep to my advantage...
Anyway, please check in while I am down there - I have cell and e-mail and blog and photos, and if there's anything that anyone needs, let me know and I will try and hunt it down in the 460,000 square foot exhibit hall. Think I'm exaggerating? Look at the mid-bottom of

So, to answer the many inquiries that have come in, yes, I will be blogging while I am at SDCC, and I will have my camera with me so I will probably also be posting pictures each evening (thanks to my IT department: Carl). I will attempt to have one sad picture of me taken every day to show you how much I miss you all and how sad I am that you are not with me, and one happy picture, to show you all how much fun I am having. ;-)
We are leaving Weds morning to get to preview night, and coming back on Monday after a nice rest in the heavenly beds at the Westin. If you have any specialty item needs, now is the time to let me know.
I'm in a class tomorrow so I can become an Access wizard and then promptly forget it all while I am on vacation. I will have a cell phone with me and e-mail is still answerable each night.

World War One Claims Another Victim
VENICE (Reuters) - A 70-year-old Italian died on Saturday when a World War One bomb, part of his collection of military memorabilia, exploded while he was showing it to a friend in his garden.
Aldo Busato, a retired farmer, died instantly. The man he was showing the bomb to was seriously injured, the local fire brigade said.
Busato lived in north-eastern Italy, the focus of Italian fighting against the Austro-Hungarians in the 1914-1918 war.

12 hours is just about perfect for a visit with mom and the aunt. I get $600 worth of new clothes from Nordstroms and they are so happy to see me, that they haven't had time yet to figure out what to harass me about. Also lucky for me: my cousin has been a royal pain in the ass for the last year, making me look like the radiant angel child that you all know me to be ;-). Makes for even more showering of clothing related gifts.
Anyway, I survived, and my closet benefited, so all is well in the world for once.

Museum Considers Excrement PowerLONDON (Reuters) - Britain's Science Museum says it is considering a radical way of paying its hefty energy bills -- using visitors' excrement.
The central London museum said it was considering taking the waste from its 14 toilet blocks and converting it into electricity.
"With free admission it would be a great way for visitors to give something back to the museum and help keep the overheads down," said the museum's head Jon Tucker. "We have almost 3 million visitors each year and have huge electricity bills."
The museum said the plan would be to siphon off waste from the toilets, store it and then either burn it as fuel in a mini-power station or turn it into electricity using a microbial fuel cell.
The power produced from the excrement of 100,000 visitors could produce enough to power 500 light bulbs, while also breaking down harmful organic matter, it said.
That's just genius.
Check-Out Woman Hits Self on Head, Claims Robbery
BERLIN (Reuters) - A German supermarket check-out worker stashed the day's takings into her shoes and hit herself over the head, pretending she had been held up and attacked by a robber, Bavarian police said on Thursday.
The 26 year-old woman told police she was alone in the south German store when a masked man forced her at gun-point to fill his pockets and several bags with money from the shop's cash box before knocking her unconscious with a blow to her head.
Police became suspicious after medical examinations revealed the woman's head injury didn't match up to her description of the attack. The woman then confessed she had hit herself on the head with a blunt object and stolen the money to pay off debts.

Tennis anyone?
So this job just gets better and better... Since last Sunday, the Professional Woman's Tennis Circuit has been here on campus having
a tournament for their tour. Yesterday and today we walked over there and got staff comped tickets and watched the game for a hour or so. It was a riot - people watching at Stanford in fun!
One of the tennis players threw a temper tantrum today because she was having a bad game.... seh bounced the ball over the stands in between serves and started swearing loudly. It was funny. Anyway, more free goodness here!
I wish I had time to go to the night games, Lyndsay Davenport and Venus Williams are playing some of them...
WB Wants Angel Movie
Garth Ancier, chairman of The WB network, confirmed to SCI FI Wire that the network has approached Angel creator Joss Whedon about doing a telefilm version of the canceled television series, about a vampire with a soul. "[We] have an offer on the table to Joss to do movies," Ancier said during the network's fall press preview in Los Angeles. "When Joss and David Boreanaz are both interested in doing it at the same time, I'm sure we will be doing Angel movies. Certainly Joss would like to. My schedule is nut s latley - too much to do before SDCC and Satan is coming tomorrow and Cindi Lauper is tonight so looks like it is all on hold until Sunday evening when I will be done learning how to change transmission fluid (*Zoinks*).
Anyway, finished watching Firefly last night with Steph and Nancy. Highly recommended show. I am sad that it didn't even last a season - it was going places. It is also much better in the order that Joss wanted them, not the order that they were aired.

Preachers and congregations throughout American history have built bonfires and tossed in books and other materials they believed offended God.
The Rev. Scott Breedlove, pastor of The Jesus Church, wanted to rekindle that tradition in a July 28 ceremony where books, CDs, videos and clothing would have been thrown into the flames.
Not so fast, city officials said.
"We don't want a situation where people are burning rubbish as a recreational fire," said Brad Brenneman, the fire department's district chief.

Man Jailed for Shooting Off His Testicles
LONDON (Reuters) - A British man who accidentally shot himself in the testicles after drinking 15 pints of beer was jailed for five years on Tuesday for possessing an illegal firearm, a court spokesman said.
David Walker, 28, was arguing with a friend at a pub in South Yorkshire, northern England, when he went home to get his sawed-off shotgun, which he jammed into his trousers.
But as he walked back to the pub, the gun went off, blasting pellets into his testicles. Doctors later removed what remained of his testicles during emergency surgery.
Walker admitted possessing a prohibited weapon at a hearing in June at the court in Sheffield.

TEHRAN (Reuters) - An Iranian man who struck a suicide pact with his new bride over their guilt for having pre-marital sex is being held by police after he backed out on his side of the bargain, judiciary officials said on Sunday.
The couple, who were not named, had been married for just two days when, "due to their guilty consciences for having illicit sexual relations, they decided to kill each other at the same time," the official said.
The man helped to hang his wife but then changed his mind about killing himself and handed himself in to police in the northeastern Khorasan province, the official told the ISNA student news agency.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actress Isabel Sanford, best known to audiences for her role as the quick-witted wife Louise on the television sitcoms "The Jeffersons," has died at age 86, her publicist said on Monday.
Sanford, the first black woman to win an Emmy for best actress in a TV comedy, died last Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Her funeral will be private, although plans for a public memorial are pending, Sanford's publicist Brad Lemack said in a statement.

Quick Weekend Update
Even though I thought this weekend was going to be laid back - I managed to do a lot....
Thursday I went and saw King Arthur, which was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The story line was unlike any other King Arthur tale and supposedly closer to what the 15th century tales were about. I'd recommend it for a rent or Netflix when you have an evening free.
Friday night I went and saw Sarah McLachlan in concert with E, C, S, and CP. I cried. It was brilliant. I have never seen someone enjoy their job so much as her. Go see her if you have a chance.
Saturday I washed and waxed the doom buggy and then we went and saw Spidy II. Not a bad flick. Way better than the first, although I can say that I understand why people say that it was slow - there's a lot of character development. Overall, I would recommend it.
Sunday, went for a walk at crystal springs and some yummy Zao in Palo Alto and then Original Joe's for dinner (of which, I ate practically nothing because I was still full from Zao, but I have great leftovers!)
Busy weekend...
Next weekend, the great evil is landing in SF for the Nordstrom anniversary Sale, and bringing her sister with her, so that means new clothes and a lot of uncomfortable silence for me. Prey for my soul.... (and I do mean Prey and not Pray - better you than her).

Spidey Musical In The Wings?
Producer Tony Adams and Marvel Comics are looking to fashion Spider-Man into a stage musical, Variety reported. Sources close to the project told the trade paper that Adams and Marvel are in talks with an eclectic group to mount the production, with book writer Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) and songwriters Bono and the Edge of U2. Julie Taymor (the musical The Lion King) is on board to direct, the trade paper reported.
A Spider-Man musical would be Adams' sophomore effort as a producer; with frequent movie partner Blake Edwards, he produced Julie Andrews' Victor/Victoria on Broadway in 1995, the trade paper reported. Marvel Comics did not confirm the project, and Adams could not be reached for comment.

Since Stanford rules, they game me (and anyone else who wanted them in the dept) 5 free tickets to the Giants game last night. Barry Bonds, who I am learning is the third best home run hitter of all time, hit one and was walked after that. They put rubber chickens up on a cord every time he is walked by other teams, and there was 81 up by the time I left. The Giants are actually pretty good, and the bleacher seats aren't up high, they are just in the back by the water, so they had a pretty good view. Anyway, baseball is a dull and boring sport, but when you go with a bunch of people to an actual game, eat all the way through it and only pay attention when the star player comes up, it makes for a fun once-in-a-while evening.

LONDON (Reuters) - The dead could soon be speaking from the grave if an American inventor's plan becomes reality.
Robert Barrows, of Burlingame, California has filed a patent application for a video-equipped tombstone that will display a video message from grave's occupant.
"If his patent is granted, Barrows hopes that when people make out their will, they also leave a parting video with their lawyer," New Scientist magazine said on Wednesday.
The hollow, talking tombstone will include a flat touch screen and will house a computer with a microchip memory or hard disc. It will be powered by electricity from the cemetery's lighting system.
The plan will not be the first electronically enhanced tombstone. An American company has a patent on a gravestone that will display photographs of the deceased and tributes from friends, according to the magazine.
But the Barrows plan will go one further by including contributions actually from the deceased.
"It's history from the horse's mouth," he said.

Weekend Report
Wow. That weekend went by way too fast.
Saturday... I have no idea what happened on Saturday. I'm pretty sure there was cleaning, and laundry and beading involved, and The Crow on the big screen - which, for a gothic comic book film, is not that bad...
Sunday was Christa's party, which was very fun. The sky was cloudy so fireworks were kinda lame - it just looked like SF was being blown up with multi-colored cannon balls in some Disneyland ride - but the people on the island had somehow organized a DJ and a live band on the top of the hill and fireworks of their own. Then, on the drive home, every city we passed through had some huge display going on on both sides of the car - it was pretty cool.
Monday was a BBQ at Steph's place, a bunch of Carl's car being lame, a walk at crystal springs, some Gellato and a trip to Outback...
And I didn't get nearly enough stuff done around the house. Oh well, maybe next weekend!

Stanford Fireworks
The Stanford Dixie band and Fireworks festival yesterday was very cool. I got out of work early, took a much needed nap, and then Carl and I headed back to Stanford for the show. The Dixie band was pretty good - I got to sit in the beautiful frost amphitheater and bead and groove to the music. Carl said he felt like he was in New Orleans, so I guess they accomplished the goal. The fireworks were very well done - it was a pretty long display. I kept tripping out on "you know what's weird? I *work* here."
Some pics are posted, taken by Carl, including the view out of my office, me in my office looking out the window, some kids playing with glow sticks at the event (long exposures make cool pics), and the fireworks from behind the trees. Very cool!

Happy Friday!
Happy Friday before a long weekend! I see that most of you have the day off, which is really cool. I get to leave at 2ish, which means, if Esther comes to lunch with me, I will have about another hour's worth of useful time in my day.
My boss just popped in here to ask me to take my neat-o digital camera outside and take pictures of her new motor scooter for insurance, so I took some photos of my office and co-workers while I was at it and will post them later.
This weekend is kinda nuts... I have Christa's infamous party on Sunday, BBQ at Steph's on Monday, A walk at crystal springs on Monday, the fireworks festival here at Stanford tonight, Spiderman II this weekend at some point, and I need to bake a couple pies and do general housework maintenance as well.
Hopefully I will get some time in at the pool at some point.

Kidman Narnia Rumor Denied
The NarniaWeb site shot down a rumor that Nicole Kidman was in talks to narrate the proposed film adaptations of C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia books. The DeHavilland news Web site reported the rumor.
But NarniaWeb quoted Kidman's publicist saying that the report was an old rumor with no basis in fact, and that Kidman will never be involved in the production. The first Narnia film, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, is currently in production in New Zealand.
