Yahoo avatar
Well, I just blew 20 minutes of my life playing with Yahoo's new Avatar tool. It's pretty fun.
Here's the one I made:
good news about Pleasanaton!
So when I got here, i saw that there was only one trash bin. I was saddened by this as I thought that it was a) wasteful abd b) a pain in the ass because now I had to haul all my recycling down to SJ to put to good use. However, today I found out that no, that is not tha case. Apparently, you stick it all in one place and they sort it all out for you. Supposedly, this cuts down on errors and stuff like how SJ throws the whole load out if they find a "contaminated" item (read: pizza box). Which sucks.
This is from
the Pleasanton Trash department's Website:
Pleasanton Garbage Service (PGS) operates a commingled residential recycling program with the City of Pleasanton. The program is the easiest way to divert recyclable materials from landfills. Rather than separating recyclable materials into separate containers (like most other communities), our program involves placing trash and recyclables into our 35 or 90-gallon carts. The materials are delivered to the Transfer Station at 3110 Busch Rd., where PGS utilizes a conveyor belt to remove recyclable material from all the residential refuse.
Ah, I feel betterabout this place now.
Third Tomb Raider Film In Works?
The Business Online reported a rumor that SCI, the game company that owns the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider franchise, is in talks with Paramount Pictures to license a third movie based on the Croft character. [

Burton & Carrey BELIEVE IT
Tim Burton and Jim Carrey are in talks with Alphaville's Jim Jacks and Sean Daniel to direct and star in, respectively, BELIEVE IT OR NOT!
The film will center on the exploits of Robert Ripley, a sport cartoonist who ran out of ideas and turned to the world of the strange and unusual. Ripley became a larger-than-life personality in the '30s and '40s, well-known for going around the world looking for oddities and getting into adventures while doing so. [

Still mostly moved
So I have at least one more load down in San Jose, but them I readlly do think that I am done. My apartment looks like a war zone and I can't find anything that I need at the moment, but I am sure that will change over the next week.
I am pleased to report that absolutley no one is in the Pleasanton Safeway at midnight, which is wonderful, as I am used to waiting in line for 1/2 hour because there's 30 people and only one checker.
My Tivo won't talk to both the new digital cable box and the internet (for updates, since I have no land line) so I need to get that sorted out.
However, I am going to go for lunch today, if Gary doesn't wanna go eat (He's back! for 3 months as a contractor, which is cool and weird at the same time).
RE: Best Christmas Display Ever

ALIAS Ends Run
ABC has announced that ALIAS will end its five-year run at the end of this season in May 2006.
Though the drama was never a top-rated show, it has long been "buoyed by a loyal cadre of fans who track every nuance of its highly complex and mysterious storylines," reported the Hollywood Reporter. [

Well, it was a good run. That'll free up one more hour of me week! ;-)
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
Hope you have lots to be thankful for. Eat lots of turkey or whatever it is that you eat.

re: *yawn* old news...
Why would someone like that sign up for a show called "Wife Swap", anyway? Isn't that ungodly? :-PThat's what I'm talkin' about! And I find it really amusing that she keeps saying "dark side" but it really sounds like "dork side", I guess both of which I take offense to, so nevermind....
*yawn* old news...
Y'know, if you watched "The Soup", you woulda seen this 2 weeks ago.

re: Xbox 360 on eBay? $5,000 and up
Well, they seem to be comming down in price as the day wears on. Most are between $900 and $1900
at the moment. But HOLY CRAP! If you had ordered a few of these, you culd be sitting pretty right now.
The highest priced one that I can see that has sold is $5,319.19. People had lots of 50 up there for 20K. Jesus. This is insaine. Clealy gaming is a *really* high priority to some people.
Xbox 360 on eBay? $5,000 and up
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) – As big box retailers quickly sell out of the Xbox 360, some lucky buyers are seeing a nice turnaround on their investment. And more and more are seeing an obscenely profitable one.

Town votes to rename itself Secretsanta.com
SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) - Officials in the northern Idaho town of Santa, Idaho, on Monday voted to rename the 115-person hamlet Secretsanta.com to hype an online gift exchange management service.
Last-minute legal wrangling left unclear whether the water board for Santa, the town's only official body, had the authority to approve a new moniker. Even so, the board voted in favor of becoming Secretsanta.com in exchange for an undisclosed sum from a planned documentary on the name change. [

Google Unveils Tool to Map Shopping Trips
SAN FRANCISCO - Joining the herd of Web sites jostling to cash in on the holiday shopping season, online search engine leader Google Inc. is adding a tool designed to make it easier for consumers to map out their local trips to the mall.
The feature, to be unveiled Tuesday at Google's Froogle shopping site, will pinpoint the merchants selling a specific item within a designated ZIP code. Besides displaying a map showing all the local stores carrying the merchandise, Froogle also will list price differences. [

You know, that is kind of cool.
At first, i thought it was another silly toy that no one would really use, but I tried it on my search for the
XBox 360, and I could see how, if I were on a mission, which I frequently am, this would be very helpful. Now if only it could map out the most efficient spiral search pattern based on likleyhood of item being available, number of traffic lights, and top speed possible, my missions could be a lot less time-consuming.
Actually, I'd really love it if it would just let me sort the way I want and then I could click driving directions and it would give me directions from a to b to c to d along the rout.
It would also be very cool if you could save particular desinations and then add in other ones from other searches to make an efficient rout for a whole day of errand running.
Damn, the world is way cooler in my head....

Mirrors to Banish Town's Winter Darkness
RATTENBERG, Austria - The sun has stopped shining in Rattenberg. But with the aid of a few mirrors, the winter darkness that grips this small town could soon be brightened up with pockets of sunshine.
That's because sun is plentiful less than 10 minutes' walk from the town and from Rat Mountain, the 3,000-foot hill that blocks its sunlight between November and February each year.
The solution: 30 heliostats, essentially rotating mirrors, mounted on a hillside to grab sunshine off reflectors from the neighboring village of Kramsach. [

For someone who tries her best to remain unseen by the internet, while herself seeing most of it, I am doing a poor job...
Whoa.
So I was yahooing my name, mostly to make sure that this blog does not show up, and I found this article about mailing stuff from the post office right before Christmas.
Last year, some guy had come up to me in the post office and asked me what I was mailing and if I thought it would get there in time blah blah blah. I had just come off my marathon of knitting (soon to be started again), so I answered his questions. Little did I know that I would be in the paper, and consequently, in an online version as well. Anyway, in the event that you want to read an article with some mundane comments about shipping shit at Christmas time a year ago, I have the article for you. [
here it is]

Morning of appts.
So I took little PeeHaa'd (note the new Arabic to English spelling) to see the vet this morning and have her little blue stitches taken out. She was nabbed really easily and the vet said that she was a darling and just laid there while he did his thing. She has even mounted up for some serious holding time a coupleof times this week. Maybe having no ovaries is really a great thing for her.
I also went and visited Dreamy Takeuchi this morning for my first checkup in a year (I normally am in there 3-4 times in that span). YAY Insurance! My gum numbers were all good for having not gone in so long, but I have 2 teeny-tiney cavities so it will be back with me on the 30th to get those filled. I did, however, get to watch some DS9 in the ceiling while having my teeth cleaned, which was really cool. Sadly, they are over their Nemo phase and have moved to the dish.

Groundhog Day
In honor of someone very dear to me, I watched Groundhog Day yesterday (yes, I have never seen it before).
I sort of feel like a fog has lifted in my life. I get jokes I have never gotten before, and I get that person a lot better that I did before. :-)
Anyway, I loved it. From what I can tell people either love it or hate it. I thought it was awesome. Of course, I also love Scrooged, which I see a lot of similarities to.

Actually, it's probably not the poop. This sounds awfully like
the study where they determined the level of estrogen from birth control pills in the sewage outflow was causing fish to change sex. So it's really pee.

uuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh.... Might wanna stay out of the water after all... 'Intersex' Fish Found Off Calif. Coast
LOS ANGELES - Scientists have discovered sexually altered fish off the Southern California coast, raising concerns that treated sewage discharged into the ocean contains chemicals that can affect an animal's reproductive system.
Two related studies found that two-thirds of male fish near the Orange County pipeline had egg-producing qualities. In a laboratory experiment, male fish exposed to sediment collected from the pipelines also developed egg-producing traits. [

RE: noelles in tha hood
They said <--------------------------------------
Literally. It looks like they drove past spraying the red death as the line is really straight. The instant Karma funnyness of it all is that there is a little arrow mark going down at the very front where they clearly smacked their hand on the mirror (we know this also because the mirror was all disoriented and flipped back). HA! (Fuckers.)
Anyway, yeah, Pleasanton is the Mission Viejo of Nor Cal. It actually may be higher on the safest places to live in America list, so no worries there. Also, the Volvo was at Carl's when this hapened - he lives more in the hood than I do (albeit, we do live 2 blocks from eachother for at least 2 more weeks).
Fuckers.
Oh, I think I forgot to mention: Some asshole spraypainted my car.
I loaned the Volvo to Carl as his transmission is out *coughcoughpeiceofcrapcarhehascoughcough* and I drive up there yesterday and some jerk has spraypainted in red on my car.
Fuckers.

On the Effectiveness of Aluminium Foil Helmets:
Tull!
Saw Tull last night at the Paramount. Very good show, free CD and they even played "Skating Away", which may actually be my favorite song of all time. The crowd was totally friggn bizzarre. The last time I saw them in Irvine, the crowd was a bunch of hippie kids like you'd see at Phish. This time, it was a mix of kids, and EVERY. SINGLE. ANTI-SOCIAL LOOSER in the Bay area. I would put money down that 20% of the crowd had autism and at least 20% more had Turrets. Whatever. It's that wierd feeling that you are actually the coolest person in a room of a couple thousand, and if I had left, Paduan would have been.
Anyway, free CD YAY!

Back in the his-ou
I am indeed home! Hawaii was wonderful and we all had a great time!
Here's a brief re-cap:
Saturday: got there, went to Cheeseburger in Paradise, which is well desearving of it's name and has quite possibly the best burgers on the planet.
Sunday, Morgan Day: Morgan treated us to massages and dinner at Ruth's Chris. If you can, go there. Their steak, I am sorry to say, is better than Morton's.
Monday, Esther day: Esther treated us to a day of snorkeling. Went downtown for Halloween. It's kind of like Santa Cruz or SF but larger and with a whole bunch of places to stop and dance along the way. It's also 80 degress, so the costumes have more... um... opportunities, if you know what I mean.
Tuesday, Noelle day: I upgraded us (finally) to a beautiful ocean view 2 bedroom and we went to a Luau. Also, as you can imagine, there was some shopping ;-)
Wednesday, Carl Day: We got up early and drove all the way around the island. We stopped at the Blue pool, where Esther, Carl and I swam under a 150 foot waterfall, which was very cool. We also sopped at the black sand beach at Hana. I drugged my friends by accident with dramamine so Morgan and Esther spent most of that trip passed out. More cheeseburger in paradise.
Thursday: Went to look at time shares. One person in ou party now owns one`:-). More shopping, dinner at IO (pronounced eee - ooo), which wasn't so good for those of us not having fish, but the fish eaters thought it was the best that they had ever had.
Friday, we went to a different beach than we had been going to in our spare time all week and got slammed all over the place by some bitchin surf. (I scraped up my kneee and have some gnarly, blood filled pictures when I go through them later).
Saturday: Day of travel home and much kitten loving!
All in all a wonderful trip! Who Hoo!
