P.S. Friday is near selling out
Anyone who was gonna come down for Friday only at SDCC should get their booty over to the site and get your ticket. It's in the yellow as of now (meaning nearing selling out).

While I am happy that SDCC makes such a huge impact that it not only sells out, but makes studios show up with all of their celebs... I kinda miss the days when I could walk through the hall and not feel smashed. The convention center is considering further expansion of their facilities JUST because CC is saying that the venue is too small. Personally, I don't WANT more than 120k people there. I;d pay more to get in if only they would limit the availability of tickets some. I think I bought my ticket last year and it was like $45 total for all 5 days. It's ridiculous how cheap it is...

The Powers That Be at Comic Con have arranged with 20th Century FOX and Whedonopolis.com to feature Once More With Feeling the way it should be seen, in a room of fans singing and dancing and just acting crazy!

There will be screening goodies and drawings. [via]

“Quantum Of Solace” Trailer
Bond is back, and he’s very, very angry. Quantum of Solace starts up right where Casion Royale left off, with James Bond hunting down the man responsible for his girlfriend’s death. The movie comes out Nov. 7.

Galactica finale may hit three hours
An article at the Chicago Tribune (unconfirmed by SFC) says that the series finale for Battlestar Galactica could reach three hours long. Also mentioned are a possible TV movie (or movies - up to three), and that the second part of the final season will be 11 hours (not sure how that figures in to the length of the finale). Still no word on when the rest of the season will air. [via]

Netflix overcomes bout of stupidity!
Huzzah! Netflix had said they're not going to destroy profiles, and they're going to open it up to new users again.

Sometimes blathering on the intertubes makes a difference about something that in the real scheme of things is unimportant. But it will save me time and I won't have to deal with Blockbuster, so YAY!

Dr. Horrible
Dr Horrible finally hit Buzzfeed!
The first trailer from Joss Whedon’s web-only super-villain musical Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog has officially landed. Nerds love: musicals, the internet, and Buffy. Which is why Joss Whedon is a total genius for coming up with this concept. Premieres online in 3 parts: July 15, 17, and 19 (and only available for free until the 20th).

The best title of the articles in the feed is called: "Mathematically Improbable that This Will Suck", which is true, given...

Titanic life jacket sells for $68,500
[article] Which begs the question: Why would there be even one unused life preserver on that ship? I would have torn the place apart looking for one. Clearly, whoever was in charge was not doing their job... and whoever was in charge of getting the jackets out was also asleep at the wheel. No wonder it sank.

OMG! No Ice At The North Pole
Scientists say the ice at the North Pole is on course to fully melt during this summer. It’d be the first time in human history that a boat could reach the North Pole. It’s a worrying sign of global warming, but also makes Arctic drilling for oil and gas all that more likely. [more]

I think my commentary on that one will come in tears.

R.I.P. Johnathan

22, originally uploaded by Lbc42.

So my kitty that I got right before 8th grade died today. He was a million years old and has been threatening to die for years so this was not unexpected. He was an awesome and beautiful cat and smarter than a lot of the people I know. I'll miss him a lot.

Noelle's status on this: melancholy but ok - I knew it would happen eventually and I am not devastated like with the last 4 cats that died.

Mom is getting his ashes so I can add him to the pile of dead kitties in the house. The only exception is Piper, who really wanted to be free, so I set her ashes loose in the forest.

Re: Where The Hell Is Matt?
Awesome! Maybe the world isn't as doomed as I thought. * grin *

I wanna see Barack Obama or the new US Secretary of State do the same thing, but with all the world's leaders! That would be a great video. Dancing with the US Congress, the British Parliament, the Russian Assembly, ...

I just imagine all the news footage of Condoleezza Rice looking sour, talking to some group of stuffed shirts, and think how much better the world would be if she were doing a silly dance instead.

SDCC Update
I have updated the TV show lineup over there --> with a new one, including Joss's panels. Kyle, looks like Lost is Saturday at noonish.

Wow, I already see conflicts. I am gonna have to figure out where I need to be Saturday pretty early.

I feel this pent up tension. The only way I can describe it is for like a dog or a rat or a horse who loves to run, what they must feel like behind the gate right before a race - when they can hear the crowd, smell the other animals, and when they are ready *now*, but there's that stupid gate.

Re: Where the Hell is Matt?
Wow. That video actually choked me up... there are so many amazing places to look at on this planet, all so very different...

But no matter where you are people are the same, and willing to dance like fools in front of a camera. Awesome.

/me is feeling very touchy feely about the people of earth right now.

Where the Hell is Matt?
This is kind of mind blowing:

Here's the website

Jon asked what we felt... I said:

I had a number of thoughts and feelings:

1) is this real?
2) this is almost as cool as the ducks video :-)
3) how many air miles does this dude have?
4) i wonder if that is in order that he traveled to them in
5) it's really hard to get monkeys to dance with you...
6) how much did that cost?
7) how did he get into the de-militarized zone?
8) I am really far behind (and if you know how much I have traveled, that is saying something)
9) I want to go with him next time
10) I want to learn that dance
11) who are all these other people?
12) Talk about go big or go home.... Hard core. Props to that dude!

Everyone should watch this.

Ok seriously, this is the WTF of the year right here: Neave Television
The strangest, oddest, most random TV station available online. A delicious, bizarre mix of clips from Godzilla movies, ’70s action films, found footage and other things I can’t identify. Click the scene to change channels. It’s like bizarro Hulu. [say WTF with me] [via]

Testify: I saw some really strange s*&^ when I watched.

Tasha and Kyle, this one is for you!

edit: It does loop so if you miss something, you can see it again. I like the hand with the eyeballs on it that DJs. At the end there is a cat.... and it makes me .... really creaped out. Click and watch until you get there. You'll know what I mean.

Re: SWAT Team
I feel like that kid form The Incredibles that sees all the shit go down and then stands there silently for a while and then screams:

"OH MY GOD THAT WAS SOOOOOOOOO COOL!!!"

As I said on Chris's blog, we don't need cable anymore, just some lawn chairs!

Re: SWAT Team
I'm glad the cops got the friggin address right, and that you two are safe.

RE: Snyder Showing Watchmen at SDCC
Yes, I am, and I say *ptttttbbbb* to your neener.

Oh, and awesome SWAT team stuff. Seriously, thats friggin' sweet.

DUDE. A SWAT team came and raided the neighbors house this morning!!!
We happened to be outside when scenes straight out of COPS happened right next door.

See Chris's Blog post entitled, appropriately: Holy. Fucking. Shit for full story.

What he left out was that the cops then proceeded to pump out the septic system.

For some reason I have Cypress Hill running through my head.

No. Seriously. That is what they looked like.

Here's hoping that this will cause the landlord to kick them the hell out and we can live in the ghetto no more (really, they are the only reason I say that. Well, that and the suspect nature of the 7-11, and it's parking lot around the corner).

Doctor Horrible Teaser Video
"WTF is this" you ask? It's what happens when Joss get bored.

During the WGA strike Joss Whedon started writing a three part musical series for the internet. Each of the three episodes will be approximately ten minutes each.

Co-writers for the internet feature are Joss’ brothers Zack and Jed and Jed’s Fiancé Maurissa Tancharoen . The writing and shooting have been completed and the series is now in post-production.

“It’s the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to.” says Whedon.

“Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” will star Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible, Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer, Felicia Day as Penny and a cast of dozens.”[The fan site]

Snyder Showing Watchmen at SDCC
Snyder also said that he's looking forward to showing the film to true comic-book fans at Comic-Con International in San Diego this July.

And if you are one of three people out there that knows how cool this is.... I say "neener" to you, because I will be there. [link about him editing the movie]

This is teh Awesome
So looks like the good folks of SF have come up with a doosey here. They want to honor President George W. Bush.... by naming a waste treatment center after him. [I shit you not...... get it? That was punny!!!]

The local grassroots movement, helmed by "Wayne Pickering," is proposing an ordinance initiative for the November 2008 San Francisco ballot in order to get the poop/pee/vomit plant's title changed. Why? To honor our current leader of the free world with an "appropriate and enduring legacy, for no other president in modern American history has accomplished so much in such a short time.

That is so rad.... i heart SF

SDCC exclusives
SDCC updated the exclusives today with some toys that you can only get at Comic Con. The only one that I actually would consider getting is an actual working Cylon toaster:

Apparently it brands your toast with an image of a Cylon. Awesome.

update: You can pre-order these on NBC's SDCC shop and not have to carry it home. They are also slightly cheaper if you do so. I have already placed my order so people shoudl come over and have some toaster toast with me after July 29, when they ship.

Re: F- Netflix
For me its a big deal because Kevin has one queue that gets 2 movies and I have a queue that gets one. Right now mine is lined up with 47 discs of Dr. Who (we're doing all the doctors in order), and Kevin's has the general movies we want to watch. So this means every day digging thru a couple hundred films to find the correct next one, be it one of Kevin's list or the next Who video. Or cough up 6 bucks more a month for two seperate accounts.

The most insulting thing for me was in their email and on the Q&A they didn't even try to say "Hey, its just too much upkeep".. I might have understood that. But they instead decided to spin it as a positive ... "While it may be disappointing to see Profiles go away, this change will help us continue to improve the Netflix website for all our customers."

And thats all the explanation that was given. I sent them an email right away expressing my displeasure. If they had treated their customers a little better thru this, like say giving them a way beyond "print out your queue and add them one by one to your main queue" and/or an explanation for why the only distinguishing feature of their service was being taken away, I wouldn't be nearly as pissed at them. As it is I I'm going to vote with my wallet, and Blockbuster is going to be getting my money come Sept. 1.

YMMV :)

Re: Hands-free reminder
It does not prohibit dialing though, which is weird.

I'm sorry to those of you who read this and make my phone, but dialing numbers on an iPhone while driving is just as scary as texting as far as I am concerned. That is one of the few complaints - no voice dialing. It takes me a long time to get to the person I want to call - especially if they are not in my favorites. I wonder how the cops are going to tell the difference between dialing and texting....

I had voice dial on my last phone and it was da bomb, yo. Except that I would say "call. Stephy." and it would repeat back "call. Carl." every now and then.... which I found hysterical because it was never anyone even close to the name of the person I wanted.

Anyway, I digress.

Re: Hands-free reminder
Not to put too fine a point on this, but ... the law is also known as the "phone in hand" law. You can be cited for holding your phone and texting or browsing while driving as well. As long as the officer determines that you're paying more attention to your phone than your driving, you're in trouble.

Here's the FAQ from Caltrans.

Hands-free reminder
Reminder that in less than 2 weeks, if you want to talk on your phone in the car, you need to be on a hands free device.

I guess that I had better break out that Jawbone I got on the inaugural VA flight and figure out how to use it. By law, I must become BORG... how strange.

.... resistance is futile.

F- Netflix
Tasha, Here's a Buzzfeed on the issue, along witha petition that you can sign.

Personally, I don't get why it is THAT huge of a deal. Obviously you'd have to then be responsible for ordering your queue, but it doesn't seem to warrant people being so up in arms over. I'm kinda "whatever" about it, but I know a huge lot of people that are really pissed about it. I bet they are trying to get more subscribership, and they think that by eliminating them, they will get people to sign up on separate accounts rather than share a password - although it is weird that they specifically say that you won't be able to transfer your queue to a new account. I bet as soon as they realize the backlash, they will reverse it.

I just hope that this is not what brings Netflix down... personally, I love the service - with or without profiles.

editor's note:
I have heard that filling out the form in Contacts Us > User suggestions gets your comments to the vast database of people who are mad about this, and therefore into corporate view. I have sent an email expressing concern over the policy and asked for a better explanation of why they are devaluing the service that they offer.

Netflix elminating profiles
From the email Netflix just sent me:

Q:What is happening to Profiles?
A:We will be eliminating Profiles, the feature that allowed you to set up separate DVD Queues under one account.

Congrats Netflix, as of September 1, you just lost a customer (I suspect more than one)

Oh, and Digg the Q&A so other people know about this too...

Re: Excitement Abounds
FWIW, I used Yahoo! Pipes to make a mashup of CCI's individual feeds for Comic-Con, WonderCon, and APE (the Alternative Press Expo).

For my part, I dawdled long enough on signing up that I have fallen victim to the complete selling-out of four-day memberships, so no trip to Sandy Eggo for me.

Excitement Abounds
So over there --> I have put up a new section (as well as updated a lot of the current stats on what I am reading, watching, etc) dedicated to that thing which I love most during the summertime: Comic Con.

I realized that it is only a little over a month away and I am so stoked! Every year, I plan and worry and prepare, and most years I even consider not going... until I remember how much fun I had the year before, and then I get super excited.

Now is that time.

It's wierd, because I am more wired about it than usual, but I think that this is the fewest people that have ever gone down. We are missing a bunch of regulars this year and really only the hard-core centers of the different squads decided to come out an play. Oh well, I am still super stoked. SDCC is kind of a solitary thing anyway. You may or may not see your buddies all day, and most of the time, it is way easier to not. You are exhausted at the end of the day and usually sick of dealing with people and really just want to not be on your feet anymore. Sound horrible? It's not. It effing rulz! Anything that can make me put that much effort in has got to be worth it.

I am planning on making some adjustments to my normal preparedness this year which should improve the quality of my fun:

1. The addition of my new giant cooler to the food lineup - should allow us to get healthier snacks at safeway when we get there and keep them in our room so we can eat better - no more cheese nip overload.

2. Better stuff management - I need to figure out a way to carry my comic art portfolios on my back or in a bag - that thing is hard to keep track of all day.

3. New walking shoes - self explanatory.

4. PDF of the schedule on my phone.

5. Re-introduction of preview night - lets me get my badge earlier and get comic art buying out of the way early.

Anyway, more info will be put up there as I have it. Saturday passes and 4 day passes are sold out so if you were planning on coming, but didn't get your ticket yet, you can still get single day passes for thurs, Fri and Sun. I would recommend Friday. Friday is becoming teh new Saturday and they are starting to take all the stuff that they no longer can fit into Saturday and shove it into Friday. There's some news on what the projected line-up for TV stuff is on the sidebar and also a survival guide, which I may actually do one of later. That one is really good, but I could probably elaborate some.

YAY! Excited!!

Impeachment Proceedings?
So far if you blinked you'd miss this, that Kucinich has brought impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney. I can see NO mention of it on CNN, and you have to search for the AP and Reuters articles, both of which have a distinctly negative tone to them (especially the Reuters article).

I've heard several people who read this blog complain about this nation's current president, to the point where they have asked me what it would take to move to Canada. There is something you can do, and it only takes a minute. Call the capitol hill switchboard (202) 224-2131, (800) 828-0498 and let them know you support the Kucinich Articles for the impeachment of Bush/Cheney. Take your complaints and put them into action. Even if nothing happens out of it, make some noise and at least let folks know you care about the political process.

Red Wall!! and end of last week news.
We now have a huge red wall! The living room is almost completely painted, except for some trim work I need to do this week. But it looks good. Really good. I can now go back to work, knowing that I got next to no rest, but a lot of stuff on my list done. Of course, I still have a huge list left to tackle...but when am I not going to have that?

Oh yeah, last week, I bought my wedding dress and also went to high tea with Amber, which was actually pretty cool...

We went to a bridal demonstration at a local venue today, and it was really cool. But man, getting married is expensive. I know, it doesn't need to be, but really, when you think about what you can afford to do, and how cool it would be to go balls out, you kinda get sad that you aren't going balls out. Maybe it's just me. Anyway, off to bed.

Last Minute...
Hey folks,

I know this is last minute, but thought I'd advertise.

I'm doing a triathlon Sunday (6/8/08) morning in and around Almaden lake (South SJ). If you happened to be in the neighborhood and want to come cheer me on, I'd love it. I hit the water at 0708, and I'm expecting to cross the finish line sometime around 0930-1000. The pros will be crossing the finish line around 0900.

Directions/Parking info here.

Should be a good race to watch if you were ever interested in seeing a tri.

I'll be wearing bib number #504, on a Black Cervelo wearing a blue and yellow tri suit.

also on the main news page of nin.com trent just announced the live lineup for this tour which includes justin meldal-johnsen replacing jeordie white. nool you may remember justin as the long time bass player for beck. i cant even imagine him playing with nin, which is why i'm even more excited to see it. the only other change from the last lineup is robin finck replacing aaron north. trent says on his site that he feels its the "STRONGEST LINEUP EVAR" or something like that. i'm a little skeptic there as i felt the with teeth lineup was BEST EVAR, but yea. i wasnt going to go since its an arena show, after the lineup announcement i'm gonna be saving up for the presale in a week or two. must. get. floor. tickets.

Apple called
They want their Noelle back.

Well, for 4 weeks at least. Problem is that I am in talks with Adobe too. I guess we'll see if Adobe even picks me and in the mean time I will go earn some money at Apple...

*sigh* I don't wanna go back to work. I had a ton of other projects around here that I wanted to do and 450 items in my Neflix queue.

I guess I go back for 4 weeks and then take some more time off?

Lame.

Hallway Painted!
I completed the trim in the hallway/inside the doors of all the rooms. All 6 doors have been painted front and back and all the trim looks good.

....

.... which kind of makes me want to paint the ceiling. Damn it.

paint everywhere!!!
2 more doors in the hall down, 2 more to go (out of 6) - I also painted the arch to the hallway with the new red paint we are slapping on the TV wall (and man, is it ballsy!). I voted. I watched 2 episodes of season 6 of Sopranos. I went to OSH. I had lunch with Wendy. I laid in the grass for a little bit. Currently: watching the first episode of Dexter (the serial killer show, not the cartoon). (Man, I wish the cartoon Dexter was on DVD).

Pretty good for a Tuesday.

Weekend goodness
SO this weekend I went to see Sex and the City, which was exactly what I wanted from it. I slept in past 1 on both days and stayed up past 3 on all nights. I painted the far wall in the living room with Chris, I went to a bridal shower for my friend, Cristal, who is soon to be married to Steve Sorenson, and finished assembling the bookshelves in the living room. We managed to hash out some details and decisions for the wedding stuff and also watched like 1/2 of Iron Man with the Rodenborns (the movie pooped out during the fighter jet sequence and they sent us home with rain checks because it was so late).

All in all, a productive weekend, but I seem to have gone nocturnal, which I need to remedy quickly in case I ever get a job. Today I am looking forward to some trim painting in the hallway and possibly some yard work.

I wonder if anyone actually reads these, or if they are just for my own edification that taking some time off is an ok thing to do and worthile considering the amount of stuff I am doing around the house...
