YAY DMODE!!
That rocked. And now, to finish packing for the insanity...

Thursday, April 27, 2006
And with a quick "Don't erase any of the porn on my computer while I am gone!", she is out.
And Noelle got to go to the ball...er.. concert after all. And she lived happily ever after.

The end.

Lyrics: Depeche Mode > It's No Good
I'm going to take my time
I have all the time in the world
To make you mine
It is written in the stars above
The gods decree
You'll be right here by my side
Right next to me
You can run, but you cannot hide

Don't say you want me
Don't say you need me
Don't say you love me
It's understood
Don't say you're happy
Out there without me
I know you can't be
'cause it's no good

I'll be fine
I'll be waiting patiently
Till you see the signs
And come running to my open arms
When will you realise
Do we have to wait till our worlds collide
Open up your eyes
You can't turn back the tide

Don't say you want me
Don't say you need me
Don't say you love me
It's understood
Don't say you're happy
Out there without me
I know you can't be
'cause it's no good

I'm going to take my time
I have all the time in the world
To make you mine
It is written in the stars above

Don't say you want me
Don't say you need me
Don't say you love me
It's understood
Don't say you're happy
Out there without me
I know you can't be
'cause it's no good

Coachella Lineup for Sunday!
Welllllll, they didn't put them in the order that I hoped, but they *DID* make sure I can see everyone I want to see.

People I am with: Oakenfold is at 6 and that is the first person I want to see - you guys should take a look and see what your earliest set needs are so we can plan our day. If we can skip a bunch of heat stroke, that may be cool... literally (HA! I am so punny!)

YAY!!!!! I found lyrics I have been questing for forever!!!
So, one of my favorite Orbital songs (and general favorite songs) is Frenetic, and I have been meaning to post the lyrics up here for years, but they are very elusive in having lyrics posted anywhere. After hunting just now while listening, I finally found one!

And with no further Ado, I give you Orbital > Frenetic:
See it in your eyes,
Feel it in my head,
Feeding me your pain,
Falling out again.

Small strong blow.
Small strong blow.

See it in your eyes,
Feel it in my head,
Feeding me your pain,
Falling out again.

Small strong blow.
Small strong blow.

Done the same old route before,
Leading us to angry shores,
Insecurities await,
Confusion hurting us again.

Let's fight and talk.
That's it... fight and talk.
Let's fight and talk.
That's it... fight and talk.

You start to shout,
You give it, bring it out,
We scream and pout,
Reacting, feeling doubt,
We're testing weight,
What's it all about?
It takes the blame,
While we shout it out.
Let's start again,
And try to talk it out.
Let's fight and talk,
Let's start something else.

Meeting on the way,
Excuse this reach in time,
Got sunshine on my mind,
Can finally hear your face in my mind.
Seen it there before,
If you only knew my mind,
Excuse me perfectly,
My world will reach in time.

Re: Sunset at Coachella
Actually, I have never heard one that has been false. Also, it's on Massive Attack's website, in their forums, posted by one of them. So I think I will go ahead and hope for this one! ;-)

Re: Sunset at Coachella
Oh man...

Supposedly there's a rumer out there (yes, this is officially a rumor of a rumor) that Massive Attack will play at sunset. That makes my brain go all fuzzy....

Another rumor is that Sinead o'Connor will be playing with them for their entire tour, which would include this.

Oy. I am more amped than I should be given that I still have to work for 3 more days before I can go...

YAY Publicity Stunt!
Well, Wangari has come and gone. She planted a tree, got a plaque, and we gave her a great big check for $100k (which somehow equals a million trees in Africa) so she can go back and keep on keeping on. Shaklee makes me happy sometimes, even if I think we may be doing it for the wrong reasons.

Free cone day at Ben & Jerry's
Get it free!

re: Band Geek Name Decoder
OMG DUDE! That's so crazy! :-D

Edit: You know dude, now that I think about that, don't you play like 10 instruments? Doesn't that thing have like a 1 in 4 chance of hitting something you play?

I will give you the fact that it is creepy that it picked your primary though!

Wangari Maathai is coming to Shaklee Tomorrow
At like 1:30 to talk to us about the green belt movement. Should be neat. Never met anyone who won the Nobel Peace Prize before. [What the hell is Noelle talking about?]

All we wanna do is eat your brains! We're not unreasonable, I mean no one is gonna eat your eyes. [Brains!]

"Code Monkey think that maybe manager want to write goddamn Login page himself. Code monkey not say it out loud. Code Monkey not crazy, just proud."

Ok, one more - can't help it - we haven't done this in a long time..

DONALD GLAUDE (djDonaldGlaude.com)
Over the past 14 years, Donald Glaude has created vibrant musical landscapes for audiences up and down the West Coast. Born in Tacoma, Washington Glaude grew up listening to George Clinton's Parliament Funkadilic and R&B radio. His musical instrument of choice was the upright base and he spent four years studying classical music. Any aspirations Donald had to be a classical bassist vanished when he heard his first house record. Before he began mixing, Glaude amassed a large record collection. His desire to share the music he loved with the rest of us motivated him to learn how to DJ.

MARK FARINA (MarkFarina.net)
Mark developed his musical tastes in Chicago - listening to house music on the radio, living in one of the country's most primordial breeding grounds for house. Around '88, while record shopping at Imports, Etc., he met Derrick Carter and a friendship began. Farina's Mushroom Jazz sound subsequently became popular through a long-running San Francisco club called Jazid Up, then through various Mushroom Jazz clubs thrown domestically and abroad.

WOW.
APOD today:

That's insaine.

Meet the newest member of my family!
So I loved Paduan's Squeezebox so much that I wanted one of my own. Between the fact that the Roku is sold at Best Buy, for which I had $120 in gift certificates plus a 10% off coupon, the fact that it is $100 cheaper than a squeezebox, and that it works with iTunes, which squeezebox does not, I have chosen the Soundbridge.

I do have to admit, I like the squeezebox better as far as looks go, but the interface is on the Soundbridge is a lot easier to deal with, just from a setup point of view. I got the whole thing in and blasting in under 5 minutes. I don't need to reindex 200 gigs of music every time I want to add something new, and iTunes as jamming out a playlist as I type.

For those of you as unversed at this as I was until 2 weeks ago, it connects up to my network and lets me send MP3's to my stereo. This is good stuff! Because I have a lot of music that is on MP3 that is not on CD (and CDs are *so* 90's - pshhaw!), I usually sit here and have to listen to stuff on my iPod or through crappy laptop speakers. NO MORE! I say! Hello HUGE speakers and subwoofer, goodby crappy laptop sound! (Ok, actually, my laptop has pretty great sound for what it is, but still...)

I absolutley love that I can drag this thing to my bedroom, if I so choose, at any moment as well.

Anyway, yay new, almost free, toy!

So Much for Mission Spring Clean
Well, so much for me getting a ton done this weekend. Between recovery most of yesterday and hanging out with Wendy on a whim all day, not much got done - but oh well, I had fun anyway. I'll just have to make the most of my week...

Next weekend is insanity, which will start the process all over again. Ah well. I can clean when I am old I guess. :-)

Knitta, please: urban "knit tags" for purls gone wild
From Boing Boing:
"Knit taggers" craft unsolicited cozies for stuff out there in the world like car antennas, door handles, and stop signs, unleashing a fury of fuzzy on an unsuspecting public. How you like my stitches, bitches? [more]

Oy. I need weapons grade pink today.
So I survived with no hangover; however, I have heartburn at pretty much anything I eat (which today consists of some Dan Dan(!!) and some carrots). Wierd.

Anyway, I do feel like crap from my cold, but I am managing to get more cleaning done, which is super happy. I need to do superficial cleaning, then some deep spring cleaning (which involves making decisions about stuff) and then special projects (like finally getting rid of my desks, burning things for people, hundreds of photos to edit, and dealing with my iTunes situation).

Call me if you need anything, else I am holing up.

No Tool for YOU!
Sorry folks. The tickets were sold out the nanosecond they went on sale. Maybe the next go round...

Happy Earth Day!
Go be nice to your planet today! Do something special for it.

I am sorta pissed that none of my normal internet news channels have even so much as acknowledged that it is Earth Day.

re: Play hookie with me?
Holy crap. What a day.

So I got up, headed over to Shaklee, got on a bus, got driven to Golden Gate Park, and was handed a shovel. From then on the day was a blur.

I planted a whole crapload of trees with my co-workers and shook Gavin's (the mayor of SF) hand as he made his publicity stunt speech. The tree planting was actually really fun and rewarding and I woud absolutley do it again. I am considering volunteering on a regular basis for the parks department, just because I love the park so much.

Then, a bunch of us piled into a car (and when I say "piled", I mean 9 people in a 4-runner) and headed over to one of my co-workers house. We changed and headed out to go "have a coctail". This is at 2:00.

We then proceed to spend the next EIGHT HOURS getting shit faced. The bar basically had a backyard to it so we got drinks, went outside and sat around a table on benches, drinking, smoking, Steve had his guitar, so he played and sang for us, and chilling for like 4 hours until all the other members of our party got there. We then headed over to a tapas bar called ChaChaCha on Haight street, had like 4 pitchers of Sangria, and a whole host of really awesome tapas for the next couple hours.

After that, we split from the party and Chris, Amy, Steve & GF and I went to Yoli's (Steve's GF) house for some wine and chillin'. At 10:30ish, I decided that I had had enough and Amy, Chris and I headed back to Shaklee to pick up cars.

Oy. Good thing I am doing spring cleaning all weekend so I have time to recover. I am nursing a headache at the moment, but I think that has a lot to do with the PACK of cloves I smoked as well as the 10 or so drinks I had today.

Tomorrow: Tool tickets on sale @ 10 am. Wish me luck.

Wiater Rant
So Nancy (AKA "David and Nancy or Brian and Nancy, Nancy?" "David and Nancy, Nancy." - We need shorthand for that (D&NN)) sent over this blog that is a great read. It's reflections on life from a waiter - funny and interesting at the same time! [read]

Thanks D&NN!

Play hookie with me?
Soooooo, looks like there's some interest in the concept of me not getting back on the bus tomorrow.

Dave Mac also mentioned to me this firedancing thing going on in Union square tomorrow night so there's the option of doing that... here are the details:
To celebrate National Dance Week, this Friday, April 21, my troupe and I are performing a 90-minute fire dancing show in San Francisco. Several dozen of us will be performing with all kinds of fire tools -- poi, staves, ropes, fans, and other -- and we'll be doing things you're unlikely to see anywhere else unless you go to Burning Man.

If you've ever wanted to see a great, full-length choreographed fire show, this is one of the few opportunities to see one.

Location: Outdoors on stage in Union Square, San Francisco
Time: 7:30 - 9:00 PM
Cost: Free
Kids are welcome (but shouldn't try this at home)

Approx. timeline: Individual performances for the first half hour, a number of choreographed group routines for the next half hour, half-hour routine for the finale.

After-party with the performers at Cafe Intrusion (829 Mission) at 9:30 PM.

Anyway, so I'll be done around 2:00. If someone calls me before that and tells me not to get back on the bus, I won't.

Of course, this all hinges on me not wanting to die when I get up in the morning.

Happy Birthday Jenn!
Just got back from Jenn's Birthday party, which was mucho fun! Got to see Jen and Dave for the second time in a week, which is always a happy thing, as well as see Margot and Pat, who I haven't hung with in forever. P.F. Chang's was great as usual (they have SPECTACULAR coctails), and we had a generally really fun time.

Now for the working. Again.

Manic Shaklee Day
Anyway, I'll be out tomorrow, if I am not too sick, planting trees in Golden Gate Park with Shaklee. You can all call my cell if you need me or feel free to come hang out and dig holes with me.

I'll be done around 2:00ish and could easily miss the bus back to Pleasanton if someone wanted to come play up there for a while and then take me back (or, I guess I could use BART since my car will be at work, and it's across the street from the station and all :-D ).

Anyway, be kind to your planet and do something good for it this weekend.

They just yanked our unlimited sick day policy
Fuckers.

Alex and I aren't accepting their new policy so I will not be effected, but still.

Fortunatley, we are pretty autonomous from the rest of the world here....

Show me the sunshine
So we have this feild of grass outside the building that has gotten unusually long. It's pretty windy up here today, so it's doing that awesome thing where it rolls like waves in the wind that wheat feilds usually do in Kansas.

I was over there mezmorized by it, and people kept stopping and asking what I was looking at, so I pointed it out. By the time I left, I had 20 people staring out the window....

It's really beautiful.

This whole pesky "people wanting me to work while I am here" thing sucks

This morning I tried to put face scrubby stuff on my toothbrush in the shower
Good thing I looked at the texture and something in my central nervous system kicked back an error message...

Re: Apple Profit Rises 41 Pct. on IPod Sales
Hey! You other guys! You are holding up the works for these people over here. Get on that!

Adobe is working on it, as described in this document (PDF). I think they give a good idea when you can expect the Macintel versions.

Apple Profit Rises 41 Pct. on IPod Sales
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Apple Computer Inc. said Wednesday its second-quarter profit rose 41 percent, beating Wall Street estimates, as sales of its iPod players continued to soar and Macintosh computer shipments increased by 4 percent. [more]

Hope you guys get some kick down from this....

Some users, Oppenheimer said, are also waiting for some key applications, such as Adobe Systems Inc.'s Photoshop, to come out with Intel-based Mac versions.

Hey! You other guys! You are holding up the works for these people over here. Get on that!

Happy 4/20 folks!!!!

Neil had this link on his blog. This site is pretty cool actually. Ready the why after you scroll back through a few of them.

re: Thank You for Smoking?
OMG. That was HYSTERICAL.

That movie was quite possibly the funniest thing I have seen in the last year. It's really..... snide, but oh so well done. HIGHLY recommended for people of all trypes. I'll be getting that one on DVD.

Thank You For Smoking?
Hey peeps, we're opening up girl night to all the sexes, and preferences, tonight.

The plan:
Pasta Pomodoro @ Santana Row (unless Wendy vetoes) 7:15
Thank You For Smoking @ Cinearts 9:20

If you are into it, ping my cell and we'll hook you up with seats.

Go Home and nap or go home and swim
These are the questions that plague my life....

Heh. Sleep or Swim. Sounds like a life or death decision to me!

Jem: Just a ride
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
No need to run, no need to hide
It'll take you round and round
Sometimes you're up
Sometimes you're down
It's just a ride, it's just a ride
Don't be scared
Don't hide your eyes
It may feel so real inside
But don't forget it's just a ride

Re: Robot Birth Simulator Gaining Popularity
This is the best quote ever:
"As Noelle's heart rate increased, a nurse examined her under the sheets."

Robot Birth Simulator Gaining Popularity
I was so hoping that this was going to be robots being born.... But then I read it and something even more hysterical came out of it:

VALLEJO, Calif. - Noelle's given birth in Afghanistan, California and dozens of points in between. She's a lifelike, pregnant robot used in increasing numbers of medical schools and hospital maternity wards. [more]

Thanks for that. I needed a good laugh. ;-)

So KKIQ was just here with Starbucks and pastries & we got to be on the radio hooting and hollering (which is REALLY difficult to do *before* the coffee). So, if you heard erica on the radio at 10:30, then that was me screaming in the background.

Heh. Rock on.

Footracers in San Fran will push a Katamari Damacy ball
So, now, there's this chance that I will drag my sad ass out of bed the night after the crystal method show and go to Bay to Breakers. I am heavily leaning towards going now, just to see this:

From Boing Boing:
Racers in San Francisco's notorious funny-footrace Bay to Breakers will run it while pushing a giant cardboard Katamari Damacy ball!

You've played it. You've rolled it. You've hummed that tune over and over again. And now it's time to put your katamari where your hands are, and join [info]soundhive and i for Bay To Breakers, as we roll a FREAKING HUGE cardboard katamari that shall be carved out of refrigerator boxes, and decorated with elements of the city that we've rolled up along the way. You can come as yourself, or choose from a blithering variety of roll-tastic cousins and kings of cosmoses. It's crowded, it's nerdy, it's way to early in the morning. But by Jumboman, i've got to do something with all this extra carpetfoam that i've got in my garage. The weekends leading up will have katamari construction as well as costume making for those dolicephalic heads. [link]

I FUCKING *HATE* getting 4 hours of sleep

Re: I wanna do this to my cat! Transgenic bunny
What April is trying to tell you folks is that she is one of those people that either has, or will, genetically modify your food.

Personally, as long as it is gown without pesticides, I'm fine with you doing whatever you want to my corn, dude. People have been genetically modifying plants for hundreds of years through selective breeding and grafting, so if you can speed this all up, that'd be great.

Here Esther, Read into this: Depeche Mode - A Pain That I'm Used To
I'm not sure
What I'm looking for anymore
I just know
That I'm harder to console
I don't see who I'm trying to be
Instead of me
But the key
Is a question of control

Can you say
What you're trying to play anyway
I just pay
While you're breaking all the rules
All the signs that I find
Have been underlined
Devils thrive on the drive
That is fuelled

All this running around
Well it's getting me down
Just give me a pain that I'm used to
I don't need to believe
All the dreams you conceive
You just need to achieve
Something that rings true

There's a hole in your soul
Like an animal
With no conscience
Repentance unknown
Close your eyes
Pay the price for your paradise
Devils feed on the seeds
That are sown

Can't conceal what I feel
What I know is real
No mistaking the faking
I care
With a prayer in the air
I will leave it there
On a note full of hope
Not despair

All this running around
Well it's getting me down
Just give me a pain that I'm used to
I don't need to believe
All the dreams you conceive
You just need to achieve
Something that rings true

*giggle* ;-) love you!

You gotta love the spandex.

Hey Esther!! Hawaii May Honor Humuhumunukunukuapuaa
HONOLULU - The humuhumunukunukuapuaa officially lost its title as the state fish more than a decade ago but is set to reclaim the honor.

A bill reinstating the critter — known as humuhumu for short — passed the Legislature on Monday and heads next to the office of Gov. Linda Lingle for a signature. [more]

Well, there's a crappy version of the song over there -->
It has holes in it, but I am awaiting a better download. Might not be until tonight.

Yeah. Rock on. Prog rock at it's finest! :-D

Edit: OK, better version is up! Thanks dude in Europe!

And so it begins...
"Live 105" in San Francisco is reporting that Tool will play the Paramount Theater in Oakland on May 4th. [concert calendar]

Lyrics: Tool - Vicarious
Eye on the T.V. 'cause tragedy thrills me.
Whatever flavor it happens to be like..
"Killed by the husband",
"Drowned by the ocean",
"Shot by his own son",
"She used the poison in his tea
and kissed him goodbye".
That's my kinda story.
It's no fun until someone dies.

Don't look at me like I am a monster.
Frown out your one face,
But with the other.
Stare like a junkie into the T.V..
Stare like a zombie,
While the mother holds her child.
Watches him die.
Pleads to the sky crying:
"Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance.
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies.
You all need it too - don't lie.

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit?

We won't give pause until the blood is flowing.
Neither the brave nor bold, or writers of stories told.
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing.

I need to watch things die.. from a good safe distance.
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies.
You all feel the same so..

Why can't we just admit it?

Blood like rain come down.
Drown on grave and ground.

Part vampire.
Part warrior.
Carnivore and voyeur.
Stare at the transmitter.
Sing to the death rattle.

Lie (4x)

(Background news headline)

Credulous, divest your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men.
Pull your head on out.
Your head believes it give a listen.
Shouldn't have to say it all again.
The universe is hostile,
So impersonal.
Devour to survive, so it is,
So it's always been.

We all feed on tragedy.
It's like blood to a vampire.

Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.
Much better you than I.

New TOOL
I just heard the first single off of the new Tool album 10,000 Days.
I believe the song is called Vicarious. It's fucking awesome!

Lyrics: NIN - Everyday Is Exactly The Same
I believe I can see the future
As I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose
But then again
That might have been a dream
I think I used to have a voice
Now i never make a sound
I just do what I've been told
I really don't want them to come around again

Oh, no

Everyday is exactly the same
Everyday is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Everyday is exactly the same

I can feel thier eyes are watching
In case I loose myself again
Sometimes I think I'm happy here
Sometimes, yet I still pretend
I can't remember how this got started
But I can tell you exactly how it will end

I'm writing on a little piece of paper
I'm hoping someday you might find
I'll hide it behind something
They won't look behind
I am still inside here
A little bit comes bleeding through
I wish this could have been any other way
But I just don't know- I don't know what else I can do

Lyrics: Madonna - Hung Up
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly

Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up
I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call
Baby night and day
I'm fed up
I'm tired of waiting on you

Time goes by so slowly for those who wait
No time to hesitate
Those who run seem to have all the fun
I'm caught up
I don't know what to do

Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
I don't know what to do

Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up
I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call
Baby night and day
I'm fed up
I'm tired of waiting on you

Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up
I'm hung up on you

Waiting for your call
Baby night and day
I'm fed up
I'm tired of waiting on you

Ring ring ring goes the telephone
The lights are on but there's no-one home
Tick tick tock it's a quarter to two
And I'm done
I'm hanging up on you

I can't keep on waiting for you
I know that you're still hesitating
Don't cry for me
'cause I'll find my way
you'll wake up one day
but it'll be too late

Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up
I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call
Baby night and day
I'm fed up
I'm tired of waiting on you

Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up
I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call
Baby night and day
I'm fed up
I'm tired of waiting on you

Smoke Up and Splash On
From PopGadget:
Funny, I seem to remember that all the kids I knew who smoked pot were always trying to cover up the scent of their doings. They always had a can of Ozium hanging around.

To the contrary, Fresh has introduced a new fragrance, Cannabis Santal. Claiming to capture the forbidden essence of the five-leafed plant, it gathers its scent from a blend of Patchouli, Rose and, of course, Cannabis.

So, smoke up... or scent up, as the case may be. Not recommended for job interviews, meeting the future in-laws, or PTA events.

Re: NIN - Only
Word.

NIN - Only
i'm becoming less defined as days go by
fading away
well you might say i'm losing focus
kind of drifting in the abstract
in terms of how i see myself
sometimes i think i can see right through myself
sometimes i think i can see right through myself
(sometimes I can see right through myself)

less concerned about fitting into the world
your world that is
cuz it doesn't really matter anymore (no it doesn't really matter anymore)
no it doesn't really matter anymore
none of this really matters anymore

yes i am alone
but then again i always was
as far back as i can tell i think maybe its because
because you were never really real to begin with
i just made you up to hurt myself
i just made you up to hurt myself
yeah, and i just made you up to hurt myself
i just made you up to hurt myself
yeah, and i just made you up to hurt myself
and it worked
yes it did

there is no you there is only me
there is no you there is only me
there is no fucking you there is only me
there is no fucking you there is only me
only
only
only
only

well the tiniest little dot caught my eye and it turned out to be a scab
and i had this funny feeling like i just knew it's something bad
i just couldn't leave it alone
picking at that scab
there is a doorway trying to seal itself shut
but i climbed through
now i am somewhere i am not supposed to be
and i can see things i know i really shouldn't see
and now i know why, now
now i know why things aren't as pretty on the inside

there is no you there is only me
there is no you there is only me
there is no fucking you there is only me
there is no fucking you there is only me

Good Party Folks
Thanks to everyone who came out for the fun. Great food, good peeps, good times.

Re: Speaking of....
I can't believe you are baking pies at 5:30 in the morning.

Them pies won't bake themselves, ya know. :-D

I crashed from around 11 to 5, if it makes you feel any better.

Re: Speaking of....
Yeah, Poe actually sang on 2 of Conjure One's songs as far as I know. I don't remember which is the other Poe song offhand cuz Neil is in the car, but I don't think I like it nearly as much. Oh wait! Duh. iTunes. Ok, it's called "Make a Wish" and yeah, it's a good song, but Center of the Sun makes me have chills in my spine....

Incidentally, their song "Tears from The Moon" features Sinead O'Connor, in case you were wondering. The dude who does Conjure one also does Delerium and Frontline Assembly, as well as remixing and doing sound for a bunch of other people. You can probably guess that I am a huge fan.

I can't believe you are baking pies at 5:30 in the morning.

Re: Speaking of....
You know, I'm sure you probably mentioned this at some point, but I just caught on that that's Poe singing that song. No wonder I like it. :-)

For some reason I was expecting Fritz Lang, not Metoroporisu.

Argh, must go bake now.

I look into your eyes, and I am at the center of the sun
APOD today:

Speaking of....
Here's a video that uses Center of the Sun over cliped together Metropolis segments to make an anime music video for the song. Pretty cool - I think I am biased though because I *love* this song.

Type anywhere with the laser keyboard

Carrying around a keyboard to use with your PDA can be annoying. The whole point of having a PDA is that it's small and easy to carry around, so why shouldn't the keyboard be the same? Now VKB is selling the futuristic Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard, a unit the size of a pack of gum that creates a virtual keyboard by spraying lasers on any flat surface. There are two lasers on board: one to display the keyboard, and one to sense which "keys" your fingers are hitting. It even makes typing sounds to make the experience more familiar, although it may take a lot more than sounds to make typing on a flat, unresponsive surface feel natural. [more]

Phases 3 & 4 Complete
Back, from an exhausting day of helping out at Paduan's and a brief encounter at Kingman with Carl's peeps (who are very nice BTW).

I think I am gonna do a little work, and then try and see if I can fall asleep early.

And by early, I mean by 2:00, of course.

No Shit! Vending Machines Sell iPods

Vending machines that sell iPod digital music players are heading to public places in the United States, including airports, grocery stores and even hotels.

One of the machines went on display Wednesday in San Diego. However, others have reportedly been spotted popping up in airports and a Las Vegas hotel. [more]

Phase 2 complete
I have successfully dug out my kitchen. I have so much more to do still, but at least I am on the right path. I am now on to phase 3 and 4 of my day: Ham Slam Prep and visiting w/ Carl's BFF from back in the day.

Then it's back here to do a bit more work... oy.

Phase 1: Complete
Moving onto Phase 2: Project Mayhem

Saturday: Phase 1: Work
Getting a lot done - groovin' to some Rage, which helps...

Saturday from Hell
Well, I just woke up, slightly traumatized from yesterday - It was really crazy at work, I had to do a couple things I really didn't want to do (like send $15k to the IRS for taxes), and I had to *not* do a couple thing that I really *did* want to do, for varoious reasons.

And now, I face the stark realization that I am off to work again, then back to clean, over to CP's, and then over to Kingman to meet Carl's best friend frm when he was 8 (they used to ride bikes together and now he's an Actor - "OMG!!! I totally saw you on Alias!!!")

I have no idea how I am going to squish this into one day... oy vey.

Please, if you are reading this and it is daylight, go outside, just for me, because I can't. All I wanna do is go walk in the hills....

BYOBW!!! To do in SF: BigWheel race down "crookedest street"

Hey! Listen to that song over there --> It makes me mellow.
Jack Johnson - Broken

With everything ahead of us
We left everything behind
But nothing that we needed
At least not at this time
And now the feeling that I'm feeling
Well it's feeling like my life is finally mine
With nothing to go back to we just continue to drive

Without you I was broken
But I'd rather be broke down with you by my side

I didn't know what I was looking for
So I didn't know what I'd find
I didn't know what I was missing
I guess you've been just a little too kind
And if I find just what I need
I'll put a little peace in my mind

Maybe you've been looking too
Or maybe you don't even need to try

Without you I was broken
But I'd rather be broke down with you by my side

With everything in the past
Fading faster and faster until it was gone
Found out I was losing so much more than I knew all along
Because everything I've been working for
Was only worth nickels and dimes
But if I had a minute for every hour that I've wasted
I'd be rich in time, I'd be doing fine

Without you I was broken
But I'd rather be broke down with you by my side

YAY! BOXES! Oh wait... no, that's not right... YAY! HOT TUB!
Well, after a significantly surreal day, I am gonna get some hot tub lovin' from my wife tonight. The really horrible thing is that I feel like a slacker for doing that. Ah well, I iwll go into work tomorrow morning and put in a few hours of unadulterated cranking before coming home to coninue with project mayhem (spring cleaning), and then over to Paduan's to prep for Ham Slam 2006 on Sunday at his place.

BTW, to the 24 of you who said that they were on it, dinner is at 4:30 so please be there near 4:00 so we can all start when it's hot. Eh, screw it, come when you want, I'm eating when it hits the table! ;-)

Talent, Lifer, or Mandarin
Ask, and ye shall receive.

I'm a Mandarin!

You're an intellectual, and you've worked hard to get where you are now. You're a strong believer in education, and you think many of the world's problems could be solved if people were more informed and more rational. You have no tolerance for sloppy or lazy thinking. It frustrates you when people who are ignorant or dishonest rise to positions of power. You believe that people can make a difference in the world, and you're determined to try.

Talent, Lifer, or Mandarin
I took the test just to find out what the categories are. Come on, I want to see a Mandarin.

I'm a Lifer!

To you, a job is what pays the bills. You put in your hours, follow the rules, and then go home. Occasionally, you consider quitting, but then you think of how bad the job market is and you reconsider. Whatever happiness you get, you get from your life outside the workplace. Relationships, family, hobbies, and outside creative pursuits are what really matter to you. You're probably taking this test at work because you don't have anything better to do.

I Heart Jack Johnson
He reminds me of sunset at Coachella. I *Love* Sunset at Coachella. It's the most mellow feeling in the world, with the a sidecar shooter that in an hour, all hell is going to break loose and you can finally get up and party after suffering through the heat.

I wish I could do that again. Oh wait! I get to do it again in 3 weeks! YAY!!!

Paydirt!
After a significant period of digging, I have finally found the floor in my room. Whoo Hoo! I have also done the top layer of bathroom, and will do floors, etc tomorrow/this weekend.

Man, I need to stop being out of town for weekends on end. It causes entropy in my house!

Lyrics: Fuel - Sunburn
iTunes picked this for me to listen to while cleaning. I forgot how much I love this song.

The sky was dark this morning
Not a bird in the trees
And silence hung suspicious and anxious
Like a blanket covered scream

And you were gone
You were not there for me
And I cursed the sky and begged the sun to
Fall all over me
This life's not living, baby
Living ain't free
If I can't find my way back to me
Let the sun fall down over me
Let the sun fall down

All my friends are searching
Quiet, desperately
Look into their eyes you'll see the faithless crying
Save me, save me, save me

And what are they to feel
And who are they to be
And what am I to do with, do with me, but let the sun
Fall all over me
This life's not living, baby
Living ain't free
If I can't find my way back to me
Let the sun fall down over me
Let the sun fall down

Until my eyes cry out
'Til my head is free from doubt
'Til my lungs sigh right out
'Til I'm wiser

Let the sun
Fall all over me
This life's not living, baby
Living ain't free
If I can't find my way back to me
Let the sun fall down over me
Let the sun fall down

Crrrrrrrrrrrrrazy Hair!
Another beauty from Paduan. Wacko hair on top of the world!

Thus far, I have seen no pictures from this trip that have me in any sort of normal pose and/or with not effed up hair. This tells me that I need to be a lot better about photo/hair/Paduan management on my field trips.

I kinda love this one anyway.

Lyrics: Jack Johnson - Breakdown
I hope this old train breaks down
Then I could take a walk around
And, see what there is to see
And time is just a melody
All the people in the street
Walk as fast as their feet can take them
I just roll through town
And though my windows got a view
The frame im looking through
Seems to have no concern for now
So for now

I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown

This engine screams out loud
Centipede gunna crawl westbound
So I don't even make a sound
Cause it's gunna sting me when I leave this town
All the people in the street
That i'll never get to meet
If these tracks don't bend somehow
And I got no time
That I got to get to
Where I don't need to be
So I

I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I wanna break on down
But I cant stop now
Let me break on down

But you cant stop nothing
If you got no control
Of the thoughts in your mind
That you kept in, you know
You don't know nothing
But you don't need to know
The wisdoms in the trees
Not the glass windows
You cant stop wishing
If you don't let go
But things that you find
And you lose, and you know
You keep on rolling
Put the moment on hold
The frames too bright
So put the blinds down low

I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I wanna break on down
But I cant stop now

State of the Apartment address
Friends, countrymen, fellow peeps,
I type before you today to give my state of the apartment address. I have surveyed the apartment, and the state is bad.

On the north end we have serious damage from explosions due to rampant traveling and then unpacking via the dumping of duffel bags. On the west end we have severe buildup of bathroom misc that needs organizing and possibly clorox. On the east side we have yet more insanity, caused by the washing of clothes without proper after care. And, my friends, I am saddened to say that I am terrified to even enter the south side, for fear of severe bodily damage.

However, I come to you with resolve, with sheer determination, to turn this situation around. I will not sleep, nay! I will not REST until I have persevered and the state of the apartment is once again good. No dustbunny will go unchecked, no article clothing will go unfolded, and no piece of trash will go un-tossed. We cannot let these terrorists piles of crap persevere!!!

Here's a random picture of me with my eyes closed at the ass crack of dawn in Lassen that Paduan took

Motorola has made my day

Oh Joy! I give you the Motorola TXTR D7 for those of us with kick ass phones that only lack the feature of having a QWERTY keyboard. It's some bluetooth love, which will make my life easier. I'm back, after an insaine weekend....
Sat, Carl and I headed out towards So Cal to see a slew of people.

We started out at April's house, where we had dinner with my mom (see post below re: friends don't let April drink and mom - brought to you by Noelles against drunk mom talking), and then a spontaneous party at her house, mostly with people I don't know.

Sunday morning we got up for Coalee and Sean's wedding, got to Laguna beach by 9:00, and saw a beautiful ceremony, despite the fact that Coalee was in the hospital the night before with some virus, puking horribly, and missed her own rehersal. Don't worry, it's just her way. It all turned out wonderfully. I sobbed all the way through it, but took some great photos anyway, which will be up later. The reception was rad. It was breakfast so we had a whole buffet of yummy breakfast food, plus dancing. Kyle and Zac were there too, so that made life a lot of fun. After that, we all headed to the beach for some photos and then Sean and Coalee were off to Maui.

We then called up Allen and Ji Sun, who live near magic mountain, because we were on our way totheir house, but turns out they were in Santa Monica at the peir, so we took a detour over to Wierd-ville for a walk through of a traveling museum, which was pretty nifty, and some extremely yummy grub in the pavillion area.

Spent the night at their BEAUTIFUL house and then headed back today. We got to Kingman just in time for rush hour traffic, so I camped there, worked a bit, and watched Harry Potter IV with Amber until 8:30.

And now I am home, with kitties who are yelling and telling me how horrible of a mom I am for leaving them for the like milionth weekend in a row. So the next 2 are dedicated to Ham Slam 2006 and sring cleaning, just for them. That is, before the crazy Vegas/Coachella trip at the end of the month ;-)

re:This blog is a figment of your imagination...
Word to the wise:

DO NOT take April out with your mom and allow her to drink. There are so many things your parents just don't need to know.

:-D It was good to see you too cow. Thanks for the crash pad! And don't worry, you are the master at covering when my mom asks what you are talking about and I give the ever so slight shake of the head...

Child advocacy information meeting
Child-AdvocatesKay has arranged for a representative from Child Advocates of Silicon Valley to come and share about volunteer opportunities. This is a chance to serve "the lowest and the least" in our community: abused and neglected children who are "cases" in the legal system.

When: this Tuesday (April 11th), 7:00 p.m.
Where: Cornerstone Vineyard (click for map) on Ross Avenue near Branham

…Apologies for cross-posting from my blog, but I want to get the word out and you guys are more socially conscious than most.

I'm off to So Cal for the weekend
Be back Monday night. Hope you all have a great weekend. I have my cell if anyone needs me.

I'm a Porsche 911!

You have a classic style, but you're up-to-date with the latest technology. You're ambitious, competitive, and you love to win. Performance, precision, and prestige - you're one of the elite, and you know it.

Sorry I'm late to the game, but I can live as a Porsche :)

Awww yeaaaah...
Slevin. 8:20. Saratoga 14. Be there or be square.

re: 15 Foot Inflatable Trampoline!
Holy Shit. That RULES. I am all over that! I don't think it will fit in your pool though, dude. I think you'd find splattered Noelle-Cow all over the place after a much too exhuberant bounce off of the diving board onto that thing. We could take it to the beach at the back bay though, where the water is all calm.

Re: What movie star are you?
Yeah, that's totally you.

Heeeeeeeeeeere's Debbie!

Some IMDB Goodness. Dude, she was in "Singin' in the Rain".... She's kida creepy now so just think about her as a young'en.

re: What Car are you?

I'm a Chevrolet Corvette!

You're a classic - powerful, athletic, and competitive. You're all about winning the race and getting the job done. While you have a practical everyday side, you get wild when anyone pushes your pedal. You hate to lose, but you hardly ever do.

Take the Which Sports Car Are You? quiz.

Nice. Hey Kyle! RED CAR!

What Car are you?

I'm a Mazda RX-8!

You're sporty, yet practical, and you have a style of your own. You like to have fun, and you like to bring friends along for the ride, but when it comes time for everyday chores, you're willing to do your part.

Take the Which Sports Car Are You? quiz.

Talking Cats
OMG, This is a riot. Speakers absolutley required. [watch]

Re: What movie star are you?
You are KATHERINE HEPBURN:
You are smart, a real thinker. Every situation is approached with a plan. You are very healthy in mind and body. You don't take crap from anyone. You have only a couple of individuals that you consider "real friends". You teach strong family values. Keep your feet planted in them, but don't overlook a bad situation when it does happen.

I'm K-Hep? It's the pants, isn't it...

Re: LMAO!! What movie star are you?
You crazy lady!

I think this quiz is fubar. I got Debbie Reynolds:
You are cute, and everyone loves you. You are a best friend that no one takes the chance of losing. You never hurt feelings and seldom have your own feelings hurt. Life is a breeze. You are witty, and calm most of the time. Just keep clear of back stabbers, and you are worry-free.

Life is a breeze? I am worry-free? Uh huh.

re: Open house art exhibit
Sadly, or happily depending on how you look at it, I will be at the wedding of two of my dearest friends on Sunday in the O.C. (YO!). But if anyone is around and looking for something interesting, you should go to this. I have a feeling it will be a hoot, given that it is interactive. Someone bring a camera please, I'd love to see what happened.

LMAO!! What movie star are you?
HA! Amber put this quiz up on her blog and I got Eliz Taylor. That's really funny.

You are ELIZABETH TAYLOR:
Everyone is in awe of you. You know what you want and how to get it. You have more friends than you know what to do with. Your word is your bond. Everyone knows when you say something it is money in the bank. You attract the opposite sex. Your intelligence overwhelms most. Your memory is the next thing to photographic. Everyone admires you because you are so considerate and lovable. You know how to enjoy life and treat people right.

I almost spurt coke out my nose at some of that. "lovable". Heh. (Paduan, if I hear ANYTHING about me being a kitten, "I KILL YOU!")

Anyway, take it and post who you are :-)

re: I'm kinda into this Lucky Number Slevin movie (yes, it is Slevin)
[last post]

I aim to get my Bruce fix before I take off to So Cal for Sean and Coalee's wedding. This implies tomorrow night somewhere near the 8:00 hour. Who's with me? [again with the trailer for those who didn't see it last time]

Re: Apple Finally Sells Out
Do I have to get out the ruler? Jesus.

Re: Apple Finally Sells Out
Windows XP Home costs $199.99 a pop. Mac people feel free to buy as many as you like.

Open house art exhibit
My friends and I are hosting an open house art exhibit featuring an interactive mural this Sunday evening. I'm really excited about this, it's a chance to explore spirituality without all the church stuff. Or at least, it's a chance to hang out with some munchies. Please come if you can!

Re: Apple Finally Sells Out
I, for one, am happy to have Windows users subsidize the development of my preferred OS. ;-)

Re: Apple Finally Sells Out
Amusing part of the boingboing post on this issue:
One reader, a former Starbucks barista, poked fun at the idea of booting Windows anywhere you don't have to: "We have this shorthand term we use when a customer wants a nonfat decaf latte -- we call the drink a 'why bother.' This is kinda like one of those."

English sux
From BoingBoing:
The Spelling Society maintains a page of "poems showing the absurdities of English spelling" -- and they're a hoot! Try reading one aloud.

When the English tongue we speak.
Why is break not rhymed with freak?
Will you tell me why it's true
We say sew but likewise few?
And the maker of the verse,
Cannot rhyme his horse with worse?
Beard is not the same as heard
Cord is different from word.
Cow is cow but low is low
Shoe is never rhymed with foe.
Think of hose, dose,and lose

Hey check this out! Papers: Cheney Aide Says Bush OK'd Leak
WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney's former top aide told prosecutors President Bush authorized the leak of sensitive intelligence information about Iraq, according to court papers filed by prosecutors in the CIA leak case.

Before his indictment, I. Lewis Libby testified to the grand jury investigating the CIA leak that Cheney told him to pass on information and that it was Bush who authorized the disclosure, the court papers say. According to the documents, the authorization led to the July 8, 2003, conversation between Libby and New York Times reporter Judith Miller. [more]

Fucking Brilliant.

Re: Apple Finally Sells Out
Hey, on the positive side, Macs are finally going to be usable ...!

*ducks*

Re: Apple Finally Sells Out
Apple is smoothly transitioning into a WindowsPC product company.
Welcome to the darkside...

Re: Apple Finally Sells Out
Another just announced alternative to dual booting is OS Virtualization. Basically software like Parallels Workstation lets you run multiple virtual machines inside their own processes on the host OS. No rebooting required. I believe VMWare has a similar product, although I don't know what their intentions are for Mac OS X. [article]

Thing Neil and I have in Common
Neil did a post which was Q and A for a publication. I found these interesting as they are what we have in common:

5. What is the trait you most deplore in others?
The conviction that they're right - and the way that justifies their treatment of others.

9. What is your most treasured possession?
My iPod -- the idea of it, having all my music when I need it, rather than the rather battered object. (Although my iPod doesn't even sratch the surface. I need a 500 gig iPod)

10. Where would you like to live?
Somewhere near the sea. Currently

15. What is your favourite smell?
November evenings -- frost and leaf-mould and woodsmoke. The smell of coming winter.

18. What is your fancy dress costume of choice?
Pirate. (for me, specifically, the Jack costime from Pirates of the Carribean that some dude always wears at SDCC and is nearly perfect)

20. Cat or dog?
Cats. They turn up and I take them in. I'd love a dog, but I travel too much.

21. Is it better to give or to receive?
Giving, any time. I never know what to do with all the things I've received.

22. What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Wasting time.

38. What keeps you awake at night?
Silence.

41. What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
That the whole "following your dreams" thing may be a cliche but it's also an excellent way to live a life.

Re: Apple Finally Sells Out
Well, Apple's only giving support in the form of Boot Camp. If Windows XP hoses up the hard drive, too bad, so sad. So they can sell the hardware and not support Windows, which is a win for them.

It's pretty funny. I know at least half a dozen people at work who are furiously installing XP on their intel Macs so that they can shelve their ThinkPads/Dells.

Apple Finally Sells Out
Apple on Wednesday rolled out new software that will allow users to run Microsoft's Windows XP operating system on Intel-based Macs, a move techies, analysts and long-time Apple fanatics have anticipated ever since Apple announced last June that it would switch to Intel processors. [more]

Re: A bevy of skiis have arrived
Everybody loves spacemonkeys

Poe - Dolphin Lyrics
There's a broken beam inside of the big big bridge
I guess that whole thing is caving in
Maybe it is time I learn how to swim
I'll be a dolphin, I'll be a dolphin

Sometimes I think I'm breaking down
And other times I think that I'm fine
But something got into my engine
It slowed me down
Now I gotta turn this whole thing around

I'm gonna be a dolphin
Gonna be a dolphin
I'm gonna be a dolphin
Gonna be a dolphin

There's not a lot I believe anymore
I mistrust everything I had been longing for
There's not a lot that I know anymore
But I know if good bridge is burning

You gotta be a dolphin...You gotta be a dolphin
You gotta be a dolphin...You gotta be a dolphin

Sometimes I think you're crazy and sick
And other time I think you're so fine
But I know I'm in dange 'cause you feel like a stranger
And I know that something's going give

When I dive into that ocean
God I hope I don't sink like a stone -- no
I'm gonna move like a dolphin
There may be a lot I don't know about you
But I know if I don't swim
I'm already drowning
'Cause a broken bridge
Is a broken bridge
So I swim to you now
Here I come...Here I come
Here I come...Here I come
I'll be a dolphin

There's a broken beam inside of the big big bridge
I guess that this time I'll have swim (I'll swim...)

A bevy of skiis have arrived
2 pair 99 snowblades
1 pair 120 snowblades

All in my hot litle hands.

And I am ready, like a monkey about to be shot into space. A space monkey.

Girls attempt real-life version of video game
Five teenage girls from Portage County face potential criminal charges after attempting to play a real-life version of Super Mario Bros.

The Portage County Hazardous Materials Unit and Bomb Detection Unit were called in to downtown Ravenna on Friday morning after seventeen suspicious packages -- boxes wrapped in gold wrapping paper with question marks spray painted on them -- had alarmed residents.

Boxes were found at the Immaculate Conception Church on West Main Street, the Portage County Courthouse, Deluxe Pastries, the corner of Cherry Way and Main Street, Reed Memorial Library, Ravenna High School and a residence at Sanford and Main streets.

Five girls -- age 16 and 17 -- claimed responsibility for making and placing the packages. The girls said they found an Internet site that included step-by-step instructions for creating replicas of blocks featured in the game.

The Ravenna Police Department will be working with the Portage County Prosecutor's Office regarding possible criminal charges as a result of the game. [via]

Stupid people. These kids are creative, fun, and not doing drugs on the streetcorners. Yes, I understand it could have looked like a bomb, but when they found out what was going on, they could have let them off the hook instead of being jerks and squelching their desire to do something really cool in the future...

To the tune of Frre Jacques (Are You Sleeping) :
Where is Noelle?
Where is Noelle?

Here I am!
Here I am!

I don't feel so good today.
I don't feel so good today

I stayed Home.
I stayed Home.

I was up until about 6:00 thanks to the time change, my throat and head hurt, and I was dizzy when I woke up 2 hours after going to sleep, so I decided to throw in the towel and recoup today. I am at home if people need me, but if I don;t answer, it's because I am sleeping.

Here's the one from the trip we took last time
And the Yahoo phot set is now up and will be added to as I get them. As usual, the last one in the list.
