Neil puts it best:
May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't to forget make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.

Workin' the system
You know, I think Aerosmith has actually put out more "best of" albums than they have original ones... Oh well, good for me - I can just love those rather than digging through all of the bad (not that there's much of course ;-) ).

My B-Day dinner
Yo peeps, my Birthday dinner is going to be on Jan 8 at 8 at Maccaroni Grill and then back to Kingman for some further fun. If you didn't get an email from Wendy or Carl about this - email them and ask, you are all invited. If you don't have their email, let me know..

Reminder: NYE
Peeps without plans are welcome to swing by tomorrow night. Me and some homies will be chillin' at my crib, drinkin' and some shiiiiiii...

Everyone esle, please be very very careful on the roads. I love you all and don't want to loose another friend to a drunk driver.

re: New Machine heading up the stairs at this very moment
New toy = very cool. Much faster than my old machine and I can actually run Dreamweaver and Photoshop at the same time - neat. People here are kinda milling around, having an all day party, which is nice. My counterpart and boss are both home today, so life is good here.

Tonight I get to see Stephy and then go home and clean so I can have people over tomorrow night. I am out until Tuesday as we have Monday off.

New Machine heading up the stairs at this very moment
I was wondering what I was going to do today, since I am being paid to sit here, pretty much alone, with no assigned work, when I got a call that my new machine was done and ready to come up minus "Adobe". When I asked what he meant, he said "the full version of Adobe." I asked if Photoshop was on there, he said yes, I asked about Illustrator, he said no, but it wasn't ordered. So I asked again, what he meant. I told him the Adobe is a company, not a product and that Photoshop was one of those products. He told me I had reader, just not the full version. "OOOOOOOOhhhh," I said, "You mean Acrobat..."

Glad we got that straightened out. Anyway, I get to set my machine up - again - today. Neat. Sounds like a great New Year's-y thing to do.

re: My New Year's Resolution...
So far, not even a page closer...

Well, I guess we'll have to see if it becomes my resolution to finish it by *next* New Year's.

Tsunami Death Toll Rockets to 114,000
The death toll from last weekend's earthquake-tsunami catastrophe rose to more than 114,000 on Thursday as Indonesia uncovered more and more dead from ravaged Sumatra island, where pilots dropped food to remote villages still unreachable by rescue workers. A false alarm that new killer waves were about to hit sparked panic in India, Sri Lanka and Thailand. [more]

re: Quiz: Which OS Are You?
I have moved up in the world, I used to be Windows.

Now I am:

You are Red Hat Linux. You're tops among your peers, but still get no respect from them. It's all right with you. You have your sights set higher.
Which OS are You?

I think it has a lot to do with the question: If you were a villain who would you be?
To which I amswered: Mojo Jojo

Quiz: Which OS Are You?
My results are surprisingly fitting...

You are Amiga OS. Ahead of your time. You keep a lot of balls in the air. If only your parents had given you more opportunities to suceed.
Which OS are You?

YAY!!! Check out what I found! What Disneyland attraction are you?
Space Mountain
Space Mountain: A thrilling rocket ride through the darkness of outer space! Futuristic and forward thinking, you have just enough 2001-esk elements without escaping Walt Disney's utopian vision for a brighter tomorrow. You represent speed, stealthness, and the promise of technology, while your Dick Dale surf guitar riff of a soundtrack makes you retro and mysterious, without being corny. Keep the lights low and avoid revealing too much, lest you ruin the show, you're only going 28 mph! Regardless of speed, you prove that in the vacuum in space, you CAN hear people scream!

What type of Mythical Sprite are you?

You are quite arrogant and think yourself above most but that is made up for by; your passionate ability to pursue your dreams, your strong will and your powerful well skilled ability for fighting. You are a natural leader, people are somewhat drawn to you and see you as someone to look up to but you only pay attention to them if they are useful, your equal or your superior. You are a very exciting person to be near for you have a vast love of adventure and battle. Fire is a symbol of Passion if and when you choose to love you are capable of beautiful, long lasting, devoted love. You are quite wondrous!

Quake May Have Made Earth Wobble
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The deadly Asian earthquake may have permanently accelerated the Earth's rotation -- shortening days by a fraction of a second -- and caused the planet to wobble on its axis, U.S. scientists said on Tuesday.

Richard Gross, a geophysicist with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, theorized that a shift of mass toward the Earth's center during the quake on Sunday caused the planet to spin 3 microseconds, or one millionth of a second, faster and to tilt about an inch (2.5 cm) on its axis. Tsunami Death Toll Soars Past 55,000
BANDA ACEH, Indonesia - Desperate refugees foraged for coconuts or looted food on battered Sumatra island Tuesday, as the number killed in a mammoth earthquake and tsunami soared above 55,000 and tens of thousands still were missing. Grieving survivors buried their dead by hand, trying to ward off an epidemic that the U.N. health agency warned could double the toll yet again. [more]

New Year's
So I think that I will be here, hanging out on New Years if anyone wants to come over and do that with me. I am adverse to driving, and I have booze here so it seems sensible that I should stay put. I have couch and guest bed if anyone wants to just stay as well.

I skinned my tounge
And I will leave it to your imagination as to how I did that as it is undoubtedly more interesting than how I actually did it.

My New Year's Resolution...
Is to finish the damned Gunslinger before New Year's actually happens. If I can do it (and really, I have like 80 pages left), then I kill 2 birds with one stone. I get to give it back to Dave, after a long year at my house, and I get to say that I actually accomplished my New Year's resolution! Yeah yeah, I know, shut up, it's a technicality...

Also YAY!!!
My Carl's Duran Duran tickets are here! Locked and loaded for a wild ride on the way back machine!

YAY!!!!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$!!!
So not only did I did get some nice cash prizes from my fabulous vacation-for-one-weekend-getaway, but I came home to find the best of news: Not only did I get my first paycheck from Shaklee (meanining that, next week, I can pay my rent without begging money from friends), but I got my last week's check from unemployment too! Whooppee! I can eat again!

It was a dark and stormy night....
And I'm back. Look! YAY! Rain!!! How cool is that??? Way neat after driving home on Christmas day with the top down in SoCal. After I ran up here to pee after 6.5 hours solid in the car, I went back outside and loved the sky for a few. Now I need to change my clothes because I am sopping wet.

The good and bad news of it is that it's gonna rain for like the next 2 weeks solid, which sucks when driving to Pleasanton.

Anyway, the drive was way better than the way down, and even way more interesting even though I was on the 5. I hit a HUGE dust storm right after the grape vine, which was actually pretty neat. There was brown out conditions so I could see the dude in front of me and that's pretty much it. Tumble weeds were thrashing my car left and right and we were all going like 80 - it was great. When I stopped to get a water (*Yoda* still very sick am I), the wind blew my door open so hard that I thought it was going to come off and the scrunchie nearly blew out of my hair. Pretty cool.

Now I have to go change and shower and then play with the monkey for a while (Jon's gonna have a field day with that one). Work tomorrow - thurs and then off again until the 4th, which rocks. 3 day weeks all year, I say!!!

Now this is a REAL CHRISTMAS...

Here's what a real Christmas is like...

"Woke up, went to see the Ocean, got laid on a board for about an hour, stood up a couple times, was shoved back down a couple times..."
Well, that's how I read it, anyway. Merry Christmas!

Back in the OC
Woke up, went to see the Ocean, got in, laid on a board for about an hour, stood up a couple times, was shoved back down a couple times, went to Grandma's, got some peanuts (I shit you not, that's what they gave me), went to Aunts house, got more very odd gifts, and got to drive the Benz home.

I am hazppy to report that my cousin has become the center of attention so I am picked on far less than normal, which is nice, and which she hates.

Tomorrow, I will see April, and Coalee, and Sean, and possibly Kyle, if he has time. On Monday, I will make the long trek back home.

I hope that you all are having a fabulous holiday and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Paper Prints Only Good News in Christmas Issue
BERLIN (Reuters) - Dropping its daily diet of stories on crime, corruption and evil wrongdoing, Germany's top-selling Bild newspaper printed only good news in its Christmas issue Friday.

Christmas in the OC
Saw the Incredibles again because my mom hadn't been to the movies in a year, ate with some peeps at the macaroni grill (which I just can't get enough of), and am now headed toward more knitting and packaging of gifts, which isn't done yet.

Tomorrow, I get my self up out of a nyquil enduced haze for an hour or two of Christmas surfing (an anual tradition, which I learn every year that I get worse and worse. I need to live down here so I can practice consistantly. It's kinda like skiing... But I digress) and then off to my grandparents for breakfast and Aunt's for lunc/dinner/whateverfood. I'm skipping the dad this year mostly because they failed to get their shit together enough to figure out what was going on in time, and I have announced that next year, everyone is coming to me. I'm sick of the drive and of wasting my vacation time with travel. 2005 has officially been declared the year of Noelle - everybody watch out. ;-)

See sad post by the chick who made the kick ass Doc Martins that got auctioned off at Fiddler's Green, and which Ray actually won a pair of. Her purse got jacked and she can't pay for school, which sucks. So, she decided to see her holy weeping teapot to make money.

Then see eBay item so as not to disbelieve.

Then, see miracle post made by said girl! Yay for her!

Sorry, but I have to say it: Holy Weeping TeaPot Batman!

Fun with Google
Found Google Labs. It has all sorts of their new and fun projects that they are developing. Most notable is google suggest, which suggests terms as you type so as not to misspell or even to misspell on purpose to see what come up. Neat. Thanks, Google, for making my life slightly more interesting.

ARGH
So I am on a conference call,..., that I have been on for an hour. I am doing absolutley nothing in the call except sitting here listeneing to everyone else type (I thougt I would make them think I was actually doing something too by Blogging this). Basically, someone is, at some point, going to say "hey Noelle, send Dave your Job to run" and then I can check. In the mean time, everyone thinks it's cool to sit here and type quietly while on the phone at 6:20 at night.

Grrrrrrrr....

Later note: Total conference call time = 1:30. Total time needed for me to do what I needed to do: 10 min. Wow, I don't understand how these people get any work done...

Sometimes it DOES take a Rocket Scientist !! (True Story)
Scientists at NASA built a gun specifically to launch standard 4-pound dead chickens at the windshields of airliners, military jets and the space shuttle, all traveling at maximum velocity. The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields.

British engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the windshields of their new high speed trains. Arrangements were made, and a gun was sent to the British engineers. When the gun was fired, the engineers stood shocked as the chicken hurled out of the barrel, crashed into the shatterproof shield, smashed it to smithereens, blasted through the control console, snapped the engineer's back-rest in two, and embedded itself in the back wall of the cabin, like an arrow shot from a bow.

The horrified Brits sent NASA the disastrous results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield and begged the US scientists for suggestions.

NASA responded with a one-line memo --

"Defrost the chicken."

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Extended Edition
Got this. Watched it. Liked it.

The added scenes were a mix for me of "oh boy they put that back in" and "um, ok", and I am sorry to say that Chris and Jon will be dissapointed because what they wanted, they shall not get. And yet, we bow to our god, Peter Jackson, once again, for making a 4:20 movie that doesn't compare to anything else. It is a commitment though and it even wore me out.

Someday, when I have gone completley mad, and done enough drugs (not necessarily in that order), I will attempt to watch the extended editions sequentially.

BTW, I have bothe sets of regular and extended cuts as well as all of the extra discs they give you in the super pack thingies - this one was about the making of the Howard Shore Symphony concert of the music. I actually think the regular versions have a merit of their own, and in some cases, I like them better.

Lemony Snicket: A Series of Unfortunate Events
I don't really know whatto say aboutthis movie. It was good, but not as thrilling as Potter. The sets, costumes, music, and especially the credits are very cool. The kids are wonderful, and the story is good, but morbid. I think the only thing that throws me off is Jim Carey. He's just too Jim Carey. Anyway, worth a see, but maybe on DVD with a big TV...

New Foamy

I LOVE MY iPod!!!

Thank you....

Dream On - Depeche Mode
As your bony fingers close around me
Long and spindly
Death becomes me
Heaven can you see what I see

Hey you pale and sickly child
You're death and living reconciled
Been walking home a crooked mile

Paying debt to karma
You party for a living
What you take won't kill you
But careful what you're giving

There's no time for hesitating
Pain is ready, pain is waiting
Primed to do it's educating

Unwanted, uninvited kin
It creeps beneath your crawling skin
It lives without it lives within you

Feel the fever coming
You're shaking and twitching
You can scratch all over
But that won't stop you itching

Can you feel a little love
Can you feel a little love

Dream on dream on

Blame it on your karmic curse
Oh shame upon the universe
It knows its lines
It's well rehearsed

It sucked you in, it dragged you down
To where there is no hallowed ground
Where holiness is never found

Paying debt to karma
You party for a living
What you take won't kill you
But careful what you're giving

Can you feel a little love
Can you feel a little love

Dream on dream on

No Sex Is Doing My Head In, Rebel Says
LIMA, Peru (Reuters) - A Peruvian rebel leader told a court on Thursday he was suffering mental problems because of 12 years of no sex and tough jail conditions.

song 173 of 1816 loading up
And that's only like 12 gigs so I am good for a while. I have a bunch more CDs I want to rip down, but syching looks like it's gonna be a bitch ("go make some coffee" has turned into "come back tomorrow"). Oh well, I am overjoyed to tote a couple hundred of my favorite CDs in my pocket with me so I'll stop complaining now, say thanks to the herd that bought me my toy and go consider cleaning up from that party this weekend...

Chris is my hero today
So I got an email this morning from Paduan telling me of a program called musicbrainz that could possibly re-ID3 my MP3s so iTunes would take them and I could then give Neil the musical loving that he desearves.

Well, I got home from Tom Jones and gave it a spin and it works like magic! If it can't figure it out, it asks you about it and has a neat-o lookup tool to help you out. It's about 95% accurate, which is wonderful. The only thing taht happens is that sometimes it has the wrong album if a band has their song on more than one, but whatever, it stays in the right folder on my machine and it will end up in the iPod so I don't really care at this point - as long as I can find it all.

Whew! Big sigh of relief! Thanks Chris, you rock!!!

Tom Jones
Going to see Tom Jones with Cheralyn and Nathan tonight... should be entertaining at the very least.

Oh, and I think I am getting sick so everyone watch out!

God does not want me to have an iPod
So I got a spiff cover for my iPod yesterday to avoid the scratching that had already started. Unfortunately, it does not fit in tea dock (genius I tell you). So I took it off to get some more music on my ipod and leave it to charge. When I put the cover back on this morning, it tore.

It lasted exactly 18 hours.

I am keeping it on until I get a bunch of music stuff sorted out, will dock my baby, update and then get a new cover and use that one.

Sigh.

The Birth of Neil
by Noelle

Once upon a time, in a far away kindom, there lived a sort of cranky girl, who loved music. She had fallen madly in love with a rival kingdom's new product which could hold countless hours of her favorite music and help her to be anti-social at work (anti-social here means productive and therefore gets to leave early). She coveted the product for many years as all of her somewhat less cranky friends got them. She played with her friend, Chris's, product whenever she got the chance and spent her nights dreaming of the product.

One day, the girl decided that if she ever did get the product, she would have to be prepared. So, like a good little camper, she spent 5 weeks of her life, while she was between jobs, ripping all of her favorite music down to a format that the product could take. When she got the companion software for her product, she learned that it would not be feasable to use the music that she had produced and that her 5 weeks were wasted.

On the day of her anual Christmas party, Neil was born. He was all the product that she had ever wanted, and she was so greatful to her less cranky friends for giving her the product. She had her party and then passed out from exhaustion.

The next day she came home and spent 5 hours ripping her favoritest CD's down through said software. She unplugged her precious product, plugged in the new earbods she was given, and went for a test drive.

Nothing happened.

She tried another album. Same thing.

She looked on her computer only to find that all the files were only names and were 3k small. She was devistated. Her CD player was broken and wasn't reading the CDs. She was exhausted from a long weekend, sick from something she had eaten the night before, and now her product was no good to her!

She called the only person that could help her at 12:30 in the morning and he suggested that she try installing the software on her other machine. Brilliant, but the product will only work on one machine. She thought for a while and then remembered that all she had to do was rip with this machine and import into the software with the other machine. She went to install the software on the other machine, but alas, there wasn't enough room on the C drive thanks to a small partition drive and not much that she could delete.

She was in tears, angry, and sad. She cried and screamed and punched her computer. She called her hero again to be cranky at him, but he was not dismayed. He came to rescue her, as usual. He found some files to delete and the software was installed. It was a jerryrigged situation, but it worked. She was overjoyed at the fact that she now had at least one album to take to work with her.

Neil was born into a chaotic and violent world, but is loved very much, and so, will grow up to become a rich and hearty soul filled with beautiful music.

The end.

Anyway, I did forward your link to possibly interested parties...

Lotsa comics, gotta sell
[Crossposted from my blog 'cause of the short timeline.]

Hey there. Wanna buy a shitload of comics dirt-cheap?

I've got something like 20-25 boxes (mostly short boxes, some long) full of comics that I need to sell to stay afloat this month.

They date back across my 20+ years of collecting, though the bulk are from the past 5-7 years. Most are bagged and backed.

I plan to take them to a comic shop that buys in bulk tomorrow (Friday) evening, but figured I'd throw the opportunity to buy them out to y'all.

I'm asking $500 for all the comics, and if you're in the south bay and I know you, I'll even deliver them, though preferably at some occasion we're going to see each other anyway (largely 'cause it might take two trips).

Paypal would be peachy-keen.

Interested? Let me know at byebyecomics@soulcookie.com.

Tribal Wisdom
The tribal wisdom of the Dakota Indians, passed on from generation to generation, says, "When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount."

However, in modern business, education and government, a whole range of far more advanced strategies are often employed, such as:

• Buying a stronger whip.
• Changing riders.
• Threatening the horse with termination.
• Appointing a committee to study the horse.
• Arranging to visit other countries to see how others ride dead horses.
• Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included.
• Reclassifying the dead horse as "living impaired."
• Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse.
• Harnessing several dead horses together to increasethe speed.
• Providing additional funding and/or training toincrease the dead horse's performance.
• Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riderswould improve the dead horse's performance.
• Declaring that as the dead horse does not have to be fed, it is less costly, carries lower overhead, and therefore contributes substantially more to the bottom line of the economy than do some other horses.
• Rewriting the expected performance requirements for all horses.
• Promoting the dead horse to a supervisor position.

He’d moved from the UK to the US in May, but had to return recently after his employer dicked him over. That’d be bad enough, right? Well, he and his girlfriend Jenni have had a nightmare in trying to get their two Jack Russell terriers, Alfie and Benson, home too. Why, you ask?

•Delta lied to him about their ability to fly the dogs back to the UK. (It seems that only Continental has the rights or ability to do so at Lee’s local UK airport.)
•The pups are currently being warehoused in a kennel that Lee describes as so repulsive, he wouldn’t put his worst enemy in there. (Though I, personally, am starting to like the thought of locking the Delta Belgiums in there. Irony, thou art delicious…)
•It’s going to cost about US$1500 (~ £850) to get Alfie and Benson home via Continental.
•…and it needs to happen in the next 11-12 days, or one of the dogs won’t get medication he needs.

Doubleplusungood.

And then, even when A&B make it back home, they’re going to have to sit in quarantine for six months. Beaucoup bucks, but at least Lee and Jenni will be able to visit with them.

So Lee’s set up a site, www.alfieandbenson.com, to ask for some help.

If you have a dollar or two to spare, would you consider heading over there and helping out a fellow pet owner in dire straits?

Help out if you can. Or, if you have no mon-ay, post this on your blog and help out that way.

Hm, maybe I should consider sending this out to look for my SugarDaddy
Carl's Mom got this proposal:

Hi
This is a legitimate appeal for ladies only.

I'm an Italian guy,I live in Italy and my name is Renato.

I'm sending this message to the people because I have the wish to find an american lady for love and marriage.

I would love to find a wealthy lady who lives in one of the following places in usa or nearby:
1) "The treasure coast",I mean north east Broward County or east Palm Beach county(FLORIDA)
2)Honolulu (Hawaii)
3)Santa Barbara,Montecito,Bel Air,Beverly Hills,Encino or San Luis Obispo(California)
4)Reno(Nevada)

I'm in love with Florida because I have been there once ,I Like warm places, palm trees, nature, calm and I like especially Delray Beach,Boca Raton,Palm Beach,Golden Beach,Highlands Beach,Lauderdale by the sea,Admirals Cove,Manalapan,Coral prings,Jensen Beach,Boynton Beach,Deepwater,Hutchinson Island or Jupiter but I would be also interested in one of the 4 places listed above.

Considering that I like the mature women, I'd love to find a lady of 45-60yo age range.

I'd love to find a gentle long haired lady who lives in a swimming pool house near the sea (as I like to swim too much) .

I seek a lady without young or old children,a no smoker lady who could be widowed, separated, single ,divorced.

With this I'm not saying that I want a millionaires,if there's one that's ok but I just seek a rich woman and I think that she would be happy with me but I would need a sugarmamma figure at the beginning and she should also help me to find a job later.

Here in Italy I don't have a good future because there's the recession, the down swing causated by our new money, the euro and also causated by our government that is not able to give a higher salary to the people: now our salaries value the half and the prices of the things are almost the double. Here in Italy my life is in danger because is getting always more difficult to survive as there's no job for me here.

I am in danger also because I live in a family with several problems and I live in a place where still reigns the comunism and the fascism .

Considering that I'm around 30 yo now and I haven't found nothing good to do in this country, now

I seek a better future abroad and I would love to find a good woman likethe 70's women.
Considering that I know that In usa there are more opportunities for me, I'm here because I'm looking for a soulmate- sugarmamma in USA to have a dolce vita with her.

If it's normal that thousands of Russian women goes to u.s and that's normal then also me..it's normal.

I seek a woman that figures out of the years, looks young and feels young : it's not a problem if she's not beautiful because she should be beautiful inside and most of all ,she should desire a younger soulmate.(She could be overweight too)

The thing I desire is to fix a serious stable relationship with a lady who gives me the opportunity to have a better life.
ABOUT ME:
I have long brown hair, brown eyes,my weight is 65 kilos(145 lbs) and my height is about 1.80 metres(5.11)...
I'm no smoker /drinker and I'm good looking.I'm 27.
I like to swim(but the are not good places to swim here where i live),I like birds and I love Dolphins(unfortunately it's not possible to see these animals here in Italy)
I love old school american hard rock music(So I'd like to find a lady that likes the guitar) and I like to cook.

If you could be the kind of woman I'm looking for, write me soon please!!!!!!

I'm here because I need help and I'm not a joke because it wouldn't have sense.

Thank you very much for reading my letter

Cheers

The Passion of the Tea
OMG! So GOOD! I could drink this all day! Go! Buy some! (Starbucks is my dealer, who's yours?)

Here's a write up:
Tazo Passion Begins Life When Luscious Hibiscus Flowers Are Combined With The Subtle Citrus Notes Of Lemongrass & Tart Chilean Rose Hips. Natural Tropical Flavors Of mango & Passion Fruit Are Mixed In, & The Whole Concoction Is Blended Together Under The Watchful Eye Of A Certified Tea Shaman. the Result Is Bold & Flavorful & Should Dispel Any Notion that Herbal Insusions Are Weak & Watery.

*AND* it's caffine free for all of you freaks out there.

And now I go watch an obscene amount of Dark Shadows...
3 hours to be exact...

VC Dinner
So, I got $100, a pointsetta plant, and a fabulous dinner for putting some plants on a table, giving people name tags, and putting misc. stuff in a box.

I also got to meet the founder of the X-Prize and NoGravity, as well as his friend who created Quake and Doom. There was a presentation by the X-Prize guy, where we got to watch the video from the winning flight and see the math on how cheap space flight is actually going to be soon.

Not a bad evening.
