American Gods, free for a month
For anyone who has been wanting to read it, but who hasn't, it is free online here for a month, or, of course, on my bookshelf...

Henry Selick (who did Nightmare) and Neil are doing Coraline
and they finally have a trailer up. [watch]

Looks beautiful. And 3D!

Not quite dead yet...
Man, I have had a hell of a week.

So, I am sure that you all know someone who has been sick recently with the nastiness that has been going around.... like 1/2 of my team got wiped out over the last 2 weeks and I am the most recent victim. This virus really sucks and I got hit hard by it. Tuesday afternoon, i stood up and said "I have a sore throat." After that, it was down hill. Nose? Clogged. Throat? Swollen almost shut. The "but it will hurt if I swallow" commercials make a whole lot of sense to me right now. Aches and Pain? checked in for a long stay. Fever? comes and goes. Sometimes I am 96 and sometimes I am 100.6....

oy.

So I actually went to the doctor today. he was like "oh yeah, you are just like the last 5 people i have seen." I got some horse pills that are supposed to decongest me and I am on a ridiculous amount of Advil, but i feel like I might become human again someday. Until that time arrives, I am on rest and an all soup diet, doctor's orders. I even had to abandon the dance party sleep over that I had planned with Wendy and Esther and Chris. I had even gotten a really nice hotel in the city... *sigh* Oh well, they are going to go enjoy it and I am going to try and get through my first evening without crying all the way through since I got this thing.

Noelle: current status = biohazard

I need a power-up and a med kit.

"B" Movie Box Car Blues
This is one of my all-time favorite lines from a song:
"The way she did what she did when she did what she did to me made me think of you."

Try saying it out loud a few times. ;-)

Fuck tha police!
yes, another rant from me, feel free to not read

the other day i was thinking how i was a little disappointed with myself for not catching the Police during their tour last year. i've liked them since i can remember and seeing them live has always been a dream of mine, but i want to see the Police from 1984. since time travel isn't readily available to me i guess i'll have to settle for old sting and the Police.

so i got my usual thursday email from ticketmaster telling me what shows they think i would like to see, and the police was one of them, at the hollywood bowl no less. i figured i could pick up some row X tickets for maybe $20-30 or so and then sneak down during the show as its usually pretty easy at the bowl. (usually the nosebleeders are very cheap compared to the others)

not even close. $55 for the nosebleed tickets. thats BEFORE ticketmaster rape fees. for those of you who have never been there, heres an example of the view your $70 or so will give you (psychedelic colors optional)

i think theres even one section behind where that pic was taken. the place is massive. anyway now i have to decide if i want to spend more money than i have or should for a show that could be good but might not be that great, plus i have to drive alone since i dont think anyone i know has that kind of cash to throw around right now. isnt sting as rich as Oprah or somthing? should be when they finally stop playing

oh yea and the box seats? around $300 PER TICKET! i wasn't aware Rod Stewart and Barbara Streisand were opening for them

More on my first day here
So far, so good. I am learning how to use these machines pretty well, and had my first run in with "Don't click the num lock unless you don't want to be able to type anymore" , which kinda freaked me out. I was sitting here, trying to type something to Mike and it couldn't do anything but numbers. *sigh*

I also have no left shift key. It's missing. I have the "contractor" laptop....

I *do* have my very own cube, with all sorts of walls and a privacy curtain, so yay. You can't possibly appreciate a cubicle until you have worked in a pod with a bunch of rowdy people. Speaking of, I miss my peeps at VA, but this job seems like it will be totally low stress for a while... OMG, how nice.

More later!

First day at apple
For those of you who don't know: I quit VA last week and tool a contractor job over at apple for a while. So far, I know that I am far away from main campus off of Wolfe.

More as it comes in!

Weekend report
Dude. Gardening. Love it. Wish it was my full-time job. Although my hands hurt really badly today. I weeded the entire back yard area this weekend, including the wildflower garden, which was really a battle, and then planted new wildflowers to replace the weeds. I also made a new Iris garden in the side yard where the trash cans are so we can see them blooming when we look out the bedroom window. I need to figure out how to lay bricks so I can repair a small wall and plant some more things. I also winterized and weeded the lawns and fertilized and snail-baited the recently trimmed and weeded gardens.

I also did a boat load of dishes, saw Kooza (which was kick ass, BTW, go see it), ate dinner with my pals in Japan town, and saw Juno. Dude. Go see Juno. It was unbelievably funny and the acting was really very good. Hands down, it was one of the best movies I have seen in a really long time.

Next weekend: the front yard and the house.

I miss my little man

Yeondoo Jung
This dude is rad. He takes pictures that children have drawn and tries to take pictures in real life that actualize them. Some of them are amazing.

Dude, Zak is famous!
Here's his post from his website. He had his blurb reprinted in like a million newspapers and Neal Conan read his on Talk of the Nation yesterday. What is funny is that I actually head this when it aired and went "awww..." when I heard it. How unbelievably odd that I now find out that was Zak.

RE: Constitution and Bill of Rights
LOL... no, we actually waited in the one and only line we were ever in to see them and the place was mobbed.

Oddly, I read in "The Nine" that they are soon to close the steps of the supreme court as it is a "security threat", so you won't be able to walk up them anymore. They are apparently gonna blast a hole in them and lead people into the ground floor straight away (like they did with the National Archives). Why do the build these awesome entrances if no one can use them??? Lame. Effing terrorists.

Constitution and Bill of Rights
Good that you got pictures of the constitution and bill of rights before they are taken off display because no one ( in Washington ) gives a shit about them any more.

Were they in the cellar, in the dark, in a locked cabinet, behind a door that said "Beware of Cougar"?

Re: Kittens!
Do you take trade-ins? ;)

Kittens!

A stray cat found us about a month ago. Once we started feeding her, we realized that she was pregnant. My neighbors and I have been caring for her, feeding her, letting her in when it gets cold, etc, but she seems to prefer to stay outside. She is a very friendly, very awesome cat. And these are her 1 day old kittens! If anyone is interested in taking a kitten when they are old enough, please let me know! (And, yes, as soon as the kittens are weaned, we will have her spayed.)

Hema's marketing department is very sily
HEMA is a Dutch department store. The first store opened on November 4, 1926, in Amsterdam. Now there are 150 stores all over the Netherlands. HEMA also has stores in Belgium, Luxemburg, and Germany. In June of this year, HEMA was sold to British investment company Lion Capital.

Take a look at HEMA's product page
. You can't order anything and it's in Dutch but just wait a couple of seconds and watch what happens.
