RE plane stuff
that looks way nice! shoulda flown into SNA so we could do lunch.

i was just on a flight that had video screens and it made the whole plane experience nicer to the 10th power. not just being able to watch TV shows or the options of watching a movie or something, but being able to see exactly where the plane was made the journey a lot more comforting (especially the altimeter).

The plane in LA

On my way back!

Re: Notes from the plane
Awesome! Will you be able to browse the web in flight once they finish getting it all set up?

Notes from the plane
So I am sitting on the flight right now listening to a pretty extensive selection of electronica for a plane... I have made a playlist of orbital, chemical bros, crystal method, moby, depeche mode, theivery, tiesto, and underworld. Thus would keep me entertained enough, but I am looking forward to a movie in a bit.

We have cool new stuff like pans labrynth, tmnt, and 300, as well as old favs like office space and die hard... You can also watch premium tv, including stuff like simpsons, bones, twin peaks and jericho. There's regular tv too but at the moment they are figuring out the satelite positioing so none of that for me. :-)

Anyway, the IFE has enough toys to keep me entertained so I am sure it would be more than enough for all of you. I'm gonna go listen to my playlist and play some doom!

Kbai.

So this dude just showed up and asked a question about if they were afraid of dying on the show all the time. He goes "by the way, it really sucks when your hit show gets yanked."

Comic-con special report
Hey peeps! We made it here safe and sound! Man, today is nuts! There's as many people here as there usually os pm a Saturday and everything is going full swing already.

I am sitting here waiting for the coveted lost panel that Kyle was screwed out of two years running. We went to get our badges and the line to get I'm to do that wrapped ALL the way around the convention center. We got our tickets for stardust and also a Neil signing in an hour or so. We saw previews for Stardust, Beowulf, iron man, etc si far and got an awesome swag bag from paramount. But the highlight so far was the casting of the dude who plays Syler on heroes as Spok in the next star trek movie and he was joined by Leonard friggn Lemoy!!!! I'll post pics later when I have time. We also got satelite feed from the set of Indiana jones and saw Stephen speilburg and Harrison ford. JJ Abrams is here for a couple films as well. Dude us a spaz.

Anyway the weekend looks like it os shaping up to be crazy and *packed*, so wish me luck getting into the things I wanna see! The floor looks really cool... I hope I have time to go wander at some point...

Thoughts on SDCC
So we leave for SDCC tomorrow. I am both totally Jazzed and totally horrified at my state of readiness all at the same time. I was reading around and found this woman, trying to explain the experience of explaining it to the first-timers. This seemed totally pertinant to all of you who have never been, but wonder what the hubbub is about:
I gave her the talk about deciding what kind of show she wants to have before she arrives. I give that talk a lot, but it never takes the first year. What will happen is she will walk in, have Sensory Overload, then run around in a Frenzy of Joy doing absolutely everything she possibly can at random until she falls over and runs out of money. This is what happens to almost anyone who has one day available and no *true* concept of what CCI is like until they see it for themselves; it also happens to first-time full run. Thurs/Fri, part of Sat they're in the Zone. Sometime Sat afternoon it starts to hit, and by Sunday they can barely drag themselves out of their hotel room. After that first time they Get It, and know how to approach future trips.

Well, I leave at 6:30 in the morning, and by the evening, I will have been all over the place at the con, to a movie premier, and at least a couple signings... Hope it all goes well - I'll be blogging interesting things along the way.

Re: Jingles
Does this mean VA is going to make up an ad jingle? Or are y'all going to cop out and pay to use Madonna? :-P

VA Topic of the Day
The lack of jingles in today's advertising is a crime.

Companies now pay for 30 seconds of a song rather than coming up with their own jingle... which kinda sucks.

Virgin America Gets the Go-ahead for Ticket Sales
DOT Allows Sales in Advance of Late Summer Launch

Burlingame, CA – July 11, 2007 – Virgin America today received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin selling tickets in advance of their launch later this summer. The airline intends to begin service this August, with specific dates for tickets sales and first flights to be announced in the weeks ahead.

“My teammates and I thank the Department and are thrilled with this latest step forward,” said Virgin America CEO Fred Reid. “We’re eager to bring this exciting new airline to the flying public. We’ve got an incredible team of people, brand-new planes with some fun, innovative features that we hope people will love. We can’t wait to welcome our first guests when we start flying later this summer.”

The DOT granted its oral approval today to permit the company to accept customer payments and to issue tickets for airline flights prior to receiving effective authority from the Department. On May 18, 2007, the DOT issued its Final Order finding Virgin America a US citizen and fit, willing, and able to provide interstate scheduled air transportation. The company expects to receive its Effective Certificate shortly in time for an August launch.

In its request to DOT, Virgin America noted that the company is fully staffed, has taken delivery of 10 new Airbus 319/320 aircraft, and is ready to advertise, sell tickets and operate the airline. The airline successfully completed the Federal Aviation Administration’s intensive formal safety evaluation in December.

San Francisco-based Virgin America is a next generation carrier, with airplanes that include innovative guest features aimed at bringing fun back to flying – including the most advanced personal in-flight entertainment system in the domestic airline market, cabins with mood-lighting and custom-designed leather seats.

About Virgin America:
As San Francisco’s hometown airline, Virgin America will serve as many as 10 cities within a year of operation, and up to 30 cities within five years. Virgin America’s brand-new planes will offer guests interactive in-flight entertainment systems, plugs for laptops and other portable electronic devices, the ability to order food or chat with other guests from their own video-screen and a host of other features aimed at bringing a little fun back to flying. Apple applies for multi-touch mouse patent
Ooo la la, what's this? Apple filed a patent application for a "mouse with optical sensing surface." That's right, a multi-touch mouse building upon the touch-sensitive mouse patent app we've already seen from Apple. This beast would allow for a buttonless pointing device which could sense the position of your digits for a myriad of gestural and positional control. [more]

The Topic of conversation at VA today...
The political theories of beer.

if you assign one person at a party to bring the beer, they will not want to spend a ton of money and therefore bring a ton of shitty beer.

If you say BYOB, everyone will bring a 6 pack of relatively good beer and then you end up with a bevy of good beer.

Just something to mull over as we head into BBQ season.

Digg Story: Law requires N.M. to grow its own pot
The law, effective Sunday, not only protects medical marijuana users from prosecution - as 11 other states do - but requires New Mexico to oversee a production and distribution system for the drug.

The law was passed in March and signed by Gov. Bill Richardson, who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Guess who now is leading for my vote..
