Would Schwarzenegger be back for TERMINATOR 4?
A fourth TERMINATOR movie could be rolling in front of cameras as early as next year, reports today's Variety. T3 writers John Brancato and Michael Ferris have a screenplay draft that's ready to go and the film's producers, Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna, want to re-up RISE OF THE MACHINES helmer Jonathan Mostow to come back and do the fourth film. Intermedia, the film production and financing firm that assembled the mega-budgeted T3 project, is starting to draw the strings and work out how much they'll have to make the sequel.
Perhaps the most startling and biggest idea is a plan to seek Arnold Schwarzenegger to come back for a fourth time. Schwarzenegger currently has his hands full as the Governor of California but the early word is that the T4 production would have need of him in a reduced capacity and not as a major player, lending weight to the rumors that a new Terminator model will become the main villain and perhaps even the hero. Whether any of the surviving characters from T3 or their acting counterparts (Nick Stahl, Claire Danes) would be back in the new TERMINATOR hasn't been revealed.

Thought of the day
From
Stephen Fry:
Bertrand Russell, the great philosopher and mathematician, got into terrible trouble by writing quite fearsome articles against the first World War when it began. He got all these letters from people who said, “My child is prepared to lay down their life for their country. Don’t you think that sacrifice demands some respect?” He wrote this extraordinary essay in which he said, “Don’t you understand? The sacrifice we’re asking of our young is not that they die for their country, but that they kill for their country.” That’s the sacrifice. To ask a child to kill someone else, whom you’ve never met. That’s a moral choice, pulling a trigger. Having a bullet hit you is not a moral choice. You don’t decide to be killed. It’s a terrible thing that happens to you. But killing something is something you do and that’s a desperate sacrifice. And we’re seeing that in the Iraq war. That’s what this poor Lynndie England did, this tragic soldier who was shot smugly smiling next to naked Arab prisoners. That’s the chickens coming home to roost. It’s not Americans being asked to die by President Bush. It’s Americans being asked to kill and to torture. Not necessarily by name. He doesn’t say, “I want you to kill this or that one.” Of course, politics isn’t that simple. Essentially that is what society does. It asks its young to kill, and that’s what we all have to live with.

re: LOTR Personality Test
You are most like
Gimli, Son of Gloin
Gimli engages in a friendly slaying competition with Legolas, showing his mastery of his instrument of choice, the axe. You are good with tools and instruments. You are not shy at telling others what to do. Time alone is important and solitary activities refresh you. You have good observational skills. In your desire for clarity in life, you may have the tendency of being remote or even "heartless". You like keeping your options open. Closure is probably not one of your strong suits.
Like Boromir, you are not content to sit on the sidelines while the action takes place around you.
Traits: Open minded, easy going, persuassive, optimistic about the future. On the dark side you could be exploitative and an opportunist.

With many acquaitenances, Frodo is deeply attached to a few people, like Bilbo, Aragorn, Gandalf, and Sam. His high ethics come out in his treatment of Gollum and Saruman. Frodo has pity on Gollum and believes that change can occur.
You have a strong personal morality. You are committed to relationships and their growth. You tend to be an idealist, believing the best of the world around you. Time alone is important and solitary activities refresh you. You have a tendency to introspection. While providing compassion and being considerate, you may have the tendency of being soft-hearted or even "too emotional" You like keeping your options open. Closure is probably not one of your strong suits.
The Orcs display the evil side of this personality with their lengthy torture methods.
Traits: Empathic, benevolent, looking to the future. On the dark side you could be sadistic.

re: LOTR Personality Test
Aragorn (Stryder) Son of Arathorn
Aragorn's decisions often seem against conventional wisdom, but he knows what to do and why it must be done, regardless of the cost.
You are good at making contingency plans and come up wiith efficient means to acheive clear-cut ends. You are highly independent, and continue on with your plans even in the face of data that might suggest to others that it's no longer feasible. Time alone is important and solitary activities refresh you. You have a tendency to introspection. In your desire for clarity in life, you may have the tendency of being remote or even "heartless". You try to schedule your life as much as possible. You tend to finish your work before resting.
As the foil to Aragorn, Sauron clearly embodies the evil side of this personality.
Traits: Pragmatic, autonomous, ingenious, resolute. On the dark side you could desire power and domination.
re: LOTR Personality Test
Faramir, Captain of Gondor
Thoroughly dependable, Faramir is loyal to his father. He keeps a watchful eye on the east border of Gondor.
You are earnest and attentive to details. You tend to trust authority and seek security. Time alone is important and solitary activities refresh you. You have good observational skills. In your desire for clarity in life, you may have the tendency of being remote or even "heartless". You try to schedule your life as much as possible. You tend to finish your work before resting.
As Sam says:"I have something to do before the end. I must see it through, sir, if you understand."
Traits: Dependable, beneficient, usually living in the past. On the dark side you could be a hoarder.

Interesting News item from Steph
Listen, I gotta score... you got a PDA or a smartphone or anything? Hell, I'll even take AOL.
Cut off their connection to the Internet and some folks feel unsettled, disconnected, lost. This according to Yahoo's "Internet Deprivation Study," an
extraordinarily depressing piece of research that suggests our lives are really far more emotionally vacant than we might think. Conducted by Conifer Research, the study asked 28 participants to live without the Internet for two weeks and found that about half just couldn't manage it. "Every day of life without the Internet is frustrating," wrote one participant. "I couldn't bear living without it," said
another, whose withdrawal was presumably a hideous amalgam of insomnia, hallucinations, and cold sweats.
"This study is entirely indicative of the myriad ways the Internet, in just 10 short years of mainstream consumer consumption, has irrevocably changed the daily lives of consumers," said Wenda Harris Millard, chief sales officer for Yahoo. "This is true to the extent that it was incredibly difficult to recruit participants for this study, as people weren't willing to be without the Internet for two weeks." And the kicker: "Deep ethnographic research like this enables us to do much more than look at consumer trends, it allows a rare glimpse into the reasons consumers make the choices they do and how they are emotionally impacted. We can then help marketers apply these insights to reach their target audiences."

Teacher Arrested After Bookmark Called Concealed Weapon
TAMPA, Fla. -- A weight may soon be lifted off a Maryland woman charged with carrying a concealed weapon in an airport.
It wasn't a gun or a knife. It was a weighted bookmark.
Kathryn Harrington was flying home from vacation last month when screeners at the Tampa, Fla., airport found her bookmark. It's an 8.5-inch leather strip with small lead weights at each end.
Airport police said it resembled a weighted weapon that could be used to knock people unconscious. So the 52-year-old special education teacher was handcuffed, put into a police car, and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
She faced a possible criminal trial and a $10,000 fine. But the state declined to prosecute, and the Transportation Security Administration said it probably won't impose a fine.
Harrington said she'll never again carry her bookmark into an airport.

re: Sky Captain
Despite Morgan's negative critique (whis is to be expected any time he is asked an oppinion), I thought Sky Captain was pretty good. The Cinematography is beautiful, the gadgets are neat, and it reads liek a 40's comic book, which is to say that sometimes things go left unexplained or miraculously easy to discover, but all in all, I think it achieved it's goals.
For a completley blue screened movie, it was well worth the $10 to go see it on a big screen.

Weekend Report
Man this weekend was short...
Staurday night I went out with Steph. We went to Crazy Buffet for dinner. Crazy Buffet is one of those places that you go when you want an experience. They have really good food and for $14 bucks on the weekends and like $90 on weekdays, you can go eat every kind of Asian food you can think of (tons of shellfish taht Steph said were all really good) and even Mongolian BBQ and Sushi) and be bombarded by hundred of Asians all yelling to hear one another. It's incredible.
Then we went to see Olivia Newton-John in concert. Damn I can only dream to look that good when I am in my late 50's - she looked good for 30, let alone her real age. She sang all of her hits which basically met my ON-J needs, so that was happy.
Yesterday Kevin, Wendy, and Carl came over, I made some dinner for everyone and then we went and saw Hamlet in the park in Saratoga. It was kinda nuts, they had a full stage set up in the middle of this park up off the 9 in the middle of nowhere in Saratoga. Very cool.
The performance was pretty good, and especially good for being free, but very long, as is the case with Shakespeare.
I wish I had like 2 more dys in the weekend - my special projects division is behind on amost everything it is doing... ah well, maybe next weekend!
Hope that you all had a good one too!

Lyrics: Tool - Third Eye
Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes.
On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.
In... Out... In... Out... In... Out...
A child's rhyme stuck in my head.
It said that life is but a dream.
I've spent so many years in question
to find I've known this all along.
"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running?"
Shroud-ing all the ground around me
Is this holy crow above me.
Black as holes within a memory
And blue as our new second sun.
I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
But the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
Singing one familiar song...
"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much.
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running away?"
Prying open my third eye.
So good to see you once again.
I thought that you were hiding.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing the tail of dogma.
I opened my eye and there we were.
So good to see you once again
I thought that you were hiding from me.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing a trail of smoke and reason.
Prying open my third eye.

NASA: Station's Oxygen Generator Fails
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The main oxygen generator for the international space station has failed, and the two astronauts on board may have to tap into an attached cargo ship's air supply next week, NASA said Thursday.
The space agency said the astronauts had several backup sources of oxygen and were in no immediate danger.
The generator — a balky Russian unit that keeps breaking down — stopped working earlier in the week. Normally, air bubbles are to blame, but this time it appeared there was a blockage in a line. [

Nickel 'nanodots' could mean tiny hard drives
Nanoscopic dots of nickel that could be used to store terabytes of data in a computer chip just a few centimetres wide have been created by US researchers.
Each "nanodot" consists of a discrete ball of several hundred nickel atoms and can have one of two magnetic states. This allows them hold a single bit of information, as a "1" or a "0".
In a conventional computer hard drive, information is stored on a disk coated with a magnetic material, and bits must be far enough apart not to interfere with each other. Nanodots should allow bits to be packed closer together as the dots are discrete units that are not structurally linked.[

The signal, coming from a point between the Pisces and Aries constellations, has been picked up three times by a telescope in Puerto Rico. [

Atkins Diet Weight Loss Doesn't Last - Study
LONDON (Reuters) - More than 45 million copies of the books have been sold and everyone seems to be on it, but researchers said Friday that Atkins and other low-carbohydrate diets do not help people stay slim.
Clinical trials of low-carbohydrate diets show a greater weight loss at six months than low-fat and reduced calorie approaches in obese patients. But by 12 months there was no difference in the two groups. [

So Cut that low carb crap out. Just eat less and/or, I don't know, GO OUTSIDE every once in a while and do something besides sit.

CHOCOLATE video games on their way
Warner Bros. Interactive Software has awarded Global Star Software the rights to make and release video games based upon Tim Burton's upcoming remake of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. The console games will be developed by High Voltage Software while the handheld and PC games will be developed by Backbone Entertainment.
The videogames are planned to coincide with the release of the Warner Bros. movie. The film is currently scheduled for release on July 15, 2005. There was no mention that any of the film's stars, among then Johnny Depp and 12-year-old British child actor Freddie Highmore, would lend their likenesses or voices to any of the games.
The Truth
Holy crap... ok I've heard my share of conspiracy theories but even I have to admit this one's pretty on the convincing side.
Look, stay objective and make up your own mind.

Just a reminder....
If you have not registered to vote...
It doens't make a difference, you live in California.
Here's what you can do:
Quit your job.
Move to another State for the next six months.
Sorry, it has to be one of the ones in the middle.
Bring your family, your friends, and even people who don't like you with you.
Take all the money you have and pay poor people to register and vote democrat.
Fight desperatly, like a cat about to be thrown in a pool, to get everyone you come in contact with to vote for Kerry.
Sorry, but it has to be him. Nader won't win. It has to be the one person who has a chance. I know, I know... but it really does have to be him.
If only I did not have debt....
U.S. Terror Status. Simson's style.
Neil makes me laugh
You know, when I read something like this...
A 6-foot-tall, 275-pound bearded man crashed a children's birthday party in Oak Forest, identified himself as "vengeance," then helped himself to a piece of cake, police said.
The incident occurred earlier this month at a home in the 14800 block of South Landings Lane in the south suburb, Deputy Police Chief Nick Sparacino said.
When the owner of the home asked the man who he was, the intruder replied, "I am vengeance. I am the knight. I am Batman." Then the man went into the kitchen, cut a piece of birthday cake, took it into the living room and ate it.
After continued questioning by the homeowner, the man left the house and drove off in a red 1988 Cadillac.
...I don't find myself wondering the obvious things (how do they know he's 275 lbs, wouldn't Batman be more likely to hunt down cake-stealers than to help himself to cake, etc etc etc). I don't even wonder about the "continued questioning by the homeowner" (probably questions like "how much do you weigh?" and "so what happened to the Batmobile then?"). No, I just keep wondering whether the mysterious stranger said, as reported, "I am the knight" or whether he actually said "I am the night". Bet it was the latter.
Why does it never cease?
Ugh.
So I'm driving along today in the Doom Buggy and I smell that Oh-to-familiar smell of coolant. *sigh* Then I look over at the carpet in the passenger's side for no apparent reason and I see that it is all black where the mat is not covering it. I think to myself that that is odd because my friends can't possibly be *that dirty*. So I pick up the mat to see how bad it is and the whole thing is flooded.
Like wet and bubbly blue fluid flooded.
I want something, really anything would be fine, that doesn't break, leak, disinegrate, or show me a blue screen of death when I try and use it.
Damn it.
Well, now we all know how I get to spend my long weekend. Diagnosing crappy car problems and replacing a leaky radiator.
Sorry Carl. :-(

Three Killed in Rush for IKEA Vouchers in Saudi
JEDDAH (Reuters) - Three men were trampled to death in a rush to claim vouchers at the first IKEA furniture showroom in Saudi Arabia Wednesday, hospital officials said.
Sixteen shoppers were injured at the Sweden-based furniture store opening in Jeddah. Medics revived some 20 customers who had fainted in the crush. IKEA said two were killed.
The rush was triggered by an offer for the first 50 shoppers to receive $150 in vouchers. An IKEA statement said more than 20,000 people showed up.
Hospital officials said two of the dead were a Pakistani and a Saudi national.
The IKEA statement said the company had worked closely with Saudi security officials to plan the opening.
IKEA is known for simple, reasonably priced products.
And to start the day off...
BERLIN (Reuters) - A man caught having sex with a blow-up doll in a busy public shopping arcade had to be physically parted from his rubber lover and escorted away, said police in Stuttgart Wednesday.
The 38-year-old man was caught with his trousers down early Monday evening after alarmed witnesses alerted the police.
"It was real, he was caught in mid-action with the doll," said a press spokeswoman. Police said that they had considerable difficulty separating the drunken man from his partner.
