Morgan Godat's b-day is coming up next Tuesday, May 4th.
He'll be busily working that entire week for E3 and so we'll be doing a get-together/ dinner the week after, most likely. If you would like to go, please let me know. It will be very low key, maybe even a BBQ at his house, or something.
Anyways, Morgan wants a massage table and a digital camera. He put on his last few wish lists (that I forced him to make because he's "hella" hard to buy stuff for) a request for contributions to his "massage-table/digital-camera" fund. So, I was thinking that if all those who know and love him could donate, say $20 or so a piece, we could pull off a pretty good amount that should almost cover whichever he wants. I’ll then give him the sum in the form of a cashier’s check.
So, there will be a birthday card floating around that I would like you to sign if you wish to contribute. Give your contributions to either Carl Bahor or Scot Amos, preferably before May 7th.

Indy IV Likely Delayed Again
A fourth Indiana Jones movie may be further delayed as principals Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have committments that fill their schedules well beyond the planned July 4, 2005, release date, E! Online reported. The fourth installment in the beloved movie franchise was initially targeted for release next year, but the script was sent back for a rewrite after Lucas decided he was displeased with the material, the site reported. Production is now slated to begin in 2005, with a release date in 2006.

Weekend Madness
So Morton's was fabulous - I don't think I've had that good of a meal in many years. The appletinis there RULE - they are sooo good and no vodka pain at all. It was the first time I can honestly say "$100 for a meal? Yeah, that seems reasonable..."
I didn't sleep a wink in SF all night, then got up, came home and went to the Los Gatos Cherry Blossom Festival, which was much fun. Then went in the pool for an hour or so since I was alone and had some down time. Got surprised by some friends in need of some pool goodness again this evening so I went in for a couple hours more and then watched some LOTR video game - kicked people out in just time to get my cousin's website finished.
All in all - not bad. I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to, but then again, when do I ever? I am pooped out and need some serious sleep, but there's this tape of Alias beckoning to me which needs watching so I'm gonna go do that in bed.
Oh, my cell is dead thanks to me being negligent so I'll just pick up messages and talk to people tomorrow!

The show was really good. The acting is horrible and the special effect suck by today's standards, but the plot is worth it. Unfortunately, this means that you have to watch every episode, in order, to make much sense of everything. Thank god for DVD's. Anyway, it's on the recommended list...

Hard disk 'speed limit' discovered
An upper speed limit for writing magnetic information to a computer's hard drive has been discovered by physicists.
In order to work out the speed barrier, the researchers used a 3.2-kilometre-long particle accelerator to fire a tightly packed bunch of electrons at magnetic material. They found that the limit was about 1000 times slower than previously thought, but say there may be ways to get around it in order to make hard drives even more efficient.
Information is stored on a computer's hard drive in the form of ones and zeroes. These "bits" of data are recorded magnetically - by making the millions of atoms within designated areas spin either up or down using a magnetic field. This information can then be read back from the disk also using a magnetic field.
The best personal computers can "flip" these spins at in a few billionths of a second (nanoseconds). But Joachim Stör and colleagues at Stanford University in California, US, used the Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC) to determine how much faster information could be written magnetically. [

1) The crowd that goes to an Offspring show stinks like ass. Gross - won't be doing that again.
2) The Offspring is looking old (sorry to those of my friends who are in the "adult range" but it's kinda odd to see them at 35).
3) 21 year old look unbelievably young to me. They look like high school kids and they are rude.

I still hold that it's a high school "got dumped" song. But I guess there's nothing wrong with that.

Here are some of the U.S. statistics for 1904:
• The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years.
• Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had abathtub.
• Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
• A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.
• There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads.
• The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
• Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union.

Spacecraft to measure Earth's drag on space-time
A spacecraft set to test Einstein's General Theory of Relativity is now on the launch pad, with the world's most accurate gyroscopes stowed away inside.

Well, I had one in person and two phone interviews today and honestly, I didn't like any of them. They were all too stuffy and corporate and the phone interviews were both wierd because they grilled me about my qualifications but no matter what I asked, they were very vague about the positions they had to offer. They were both going to set up in person interviews but I think I'm gonna take a pass on them. The in person was ok, but the people all seemed really not fun and way too corporate... They may call me back for a second interview, but it would be a 1/2 day event and I'm not sure I want to burn my interview time on them. We'll see...

Zak's Party
Zak's party was muchas Fun! His sister cooked up this HUGE MExican meal that was fantastic, I got to see his mom, stepdad and sister, and they even had a jam session while we smoked som every yummy orange tobacco from a hookah. Very fun!
I also baked an apple pie yesterday for today's festivities as we as tries my hand at strawberry pie, of which I made 2. Off now to carmelize some pecans for a salad - hope that works out :-)

ABC Sneaks Potter 3
ABC announced that it will air a 10-minute sneak preview of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on May 9. The sneak preview will follow a showing of the first Potter film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
According to the ABC Web site, the network will be running an extended edition of Sorcerer's Stone, with footage not seen in the 2001 theatrical release. Also, Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint will be seen talking about the movie in interstitial interviews to be featured throughout the telecast. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban opens June 4.

SCI FI Brings Back Farscape
SCI FI announced it will be bringing back Farscape with an all-new miniseries — called Farscape: Peacekeeper War — slated to air in the fourth quarter of this year. The four-hour miniseries picks up where the cliffhanger series finale left off and will reunite John Crichton (Ben Browder), Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) and the rest of the Moya crew.
Farscape creator Rockne O'Bannon and executive producer David Kemper wrote the miniseries, which was directed by Brian Henson. Peacekeeper War was produced by the Jim Henson Company and Hallmark Entertainment, and executive produced by Robert Halmi Jr.
SCI FI will make the official announcement at noon on Monday, April 5, during the channel's advertising sales "upfront" presentation.
