Take Your Credit Cards...
...throw them in a safe, loose the combination, toss it into a deep deep river and click this link.

Plug
Check out Kevin's site. He has a rad link on there to a Wired article about haptic interfaces for DJs. Looks rad.

When you get there - watch the video. It's f*&king amazing.

OH NO (this rules! )
I found flash pac man online....

This is bad.

Nothing is going to get done.

I'm doing it again
I really think that I have a mental block. Somehow though, I still get as much done as everyone else.

See, here's the thing. I have all of these things I want to do at home, like cleaning this or that or getting stuff up on ebay or reading whatever or playing games, but I don't have time when I go home because I am out with my friends every night. I WILL NOT give that up, but I seem to need more time. It has occured to me that if I did not have to show up here every day and do silly web things, I could be doing all of that stuff.

I think I need a plan. This sucks. I can do better, I know I can.

Nolan Pumped For Batman 5
Director Christopher Nolan—who is in preproduction on the fifth installment in the Batman film franchise—told British newspaper the London Metro that it's been an enjoyable experience so far. "I'm having the time of my life," the Memento director told the paper. "[It's at the] very early stages, which is where it's tremendous fun. I'm getting to watch my vision of the world of Batman. To do that and get paid for it is brilliant."

When asked for details about the story, Nolan was less forthcoming. "It's absolutely, excruciatingly top secret," he told the paper. Batman 5 is scheduled for release in 2005.

When things that I do start to suck, I look at them and say to myself "self, we should stop doing this." And my self usually agrees. Apparently the good people over there paying for all of those Batman movies haven't seen the last couple.

Re: LOTR ROTK Preview
If you didn't go this morning, you are out of luck - New Line asked for a cese and desist on that one. They had to take it down.

Re: Damn Programmers
I guess I should tell you what they did.

1) Part of site that should be fine, has already been tested, and works well, has been moved to new server with new file stucture (A WEEK BEFORE DUE DATE!!!!). Now does not work. I get SQL statements on my pages. Damn it. Also, there are now 3 separate servers, all with different code, two databases, and two file structures.

2) Code that was supposed to be delivered has not been, with no warning, or mention of when it will be done. Again, I remind you, it goes to the client in a week and I need time to test and re-test.

3) exe files that were promised a week ago were never delievered and I was never told taht they were wrong in the first place and needed to be, so I could not harass people.

4) code is marked as "coming soon" in places and EVERYONE claims not to know what that section is for.

5) India never looked at our production environment or our template system so they are now "surprised" and have a "large work load" because they have to incorporate into and environment that we built and showed them two months ago.

In the future:

One server.

One database.

One Program team working on it.

One file structure.

Now:
One pissed off Project manager with three broken sites.

p.s. Did I mention that Tom is the technichal project manager and I am the logistical/programming project manager so most of this actually should have been handled by him??? He just decided to stop managing the programmers so they went all willy nilly without a leash. I was supposed to herd all the cats toward QA and take the project over for delievery. The problem came when no one told me that Tom wasn't managing anymore, or rather, never was.

Damn Programmers
Blew up my website.

All of them.

Programmers 1/2 way around the world, and programmers sitting 10 feet from me.

Next due date for completion of huge project #2 is next Friday.

Mad.

Nasty e-mails have been sent.

No, I'm hot

News on Spike's role on Angel
Theses are rumors, but they have all been but confirmed...
We'll see.

Watts Back For Ring 2
Naomi Watts told SCI FI Wire that she has agreed to star in the proposed sequel to last year's hit supernatural horror film The Ring. Watts added that she expects to start shooting next year.

"I really liked that role, and it seemed to do well, so absolutely," Watts said in an interview. Watts played a journalist who discovers a videotape that kills people seven days after they view it.

In December, Ring producer Walter Parkes told SCI FI Wire that the follow-up film would be both a prequel and a sequel, telling parallel stories. Though the original Ring is based on the first film in a series of Japanese horror movies, the U.S. sequel will be an original story.

Supe's Suit For Sale
Los Angeles-based Profiles in History will auction off some 360 items of Hollywood memorabilia on July 31, including the Superman costume worn by George Reeves in the 1950s television series and Arnold Schwarzenegger's gloves from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the Reuters news service reported. The Superman suit will be the centerpiece of the auction because it is one of only two known to exist, Profiles chief executive Joseph Maddalena told the news service. It is expected to sell for around $150,000.

The majority of the items to be auctioned come from science-fiction movies and television shows, "hot" material for collectors, according to Maddalena. Last year, Profiles auctioned Captain Kirk's command chair from the original Star Trek television series for $306,000, the news service said. Bids can be made in person at Profiles in History's Beverly Hills office or online at the eBay Web site.

Astin Joins Jeremiah
Sean Astin told SCI FI Wire that he will appear in most of the second-season episodes of Showtime's SF series Jeremiah, playing an odd prophet. [more]

Wednesday: Update
So far, so good.

I have managed to work for 2 solid hours (I wonder if anyone else out there thinks that this is an amazing feat and that I should be congratulated?).

I have also managed to figure out how to sneak my way around Shopsite limitations so that I can stuff JavaScript into a hole where it doesn't belong. This blockade was previously prohibiting me from having anything neat in my shopsite pages like rollovers and layers. (none of you have any clue what I am talking about. *sigh*) Anyway, my office has deemed me the (wo)man and I have gotten much petting for my crafty ways. Go me! (I should consider actually working more I think)

ok, so goofing for 10 more minutes and then off to lunch. I'll let ya know how the afternoon goes.

p.s. I know i am being bad, but I did a solid hour and G should be in soon and I wanted to remember to post this. More in an hour....

Wednesday
OK, I HAVE to get stuff done today. It's not like anything's due, per se, but I need George to believe that I do something around here. I don't think he has caught on yet, but yesterday he walked in twice and I was pretty much just staring blankly at my e-mail program. I also think if i get motivated, inertia may kick in and I may get more stuff done in general.

The mission: To do at least 6 hours of actual work
The probablility of this happening: I'd give it about a 30% chance of success
The consequences (have to set myself a punnishment): no bloggong until 2 hours of work are done. Then 30 minutes of blog/goof off time. Repeat 3X daily.

I'll keep you informed....

Wish me luck.

Lamenting Tuesday
Just a little more insight into my brain....

I am sitting here, looking at my task list, completly grief stricken that it is only Tuesday.

I think adults should get summer break. OK, I think I should get summer break.

I had the thought that I should again persue the idea of teaching. Then I looked outside and saw the teenager sitting outside the window of my office (and I use the words "my" and "office" VERY loosly) picking his nose. He then got up and proceeded to spill at least 1/2 of his cherry slurpy all over the front of him. I also remembered that I cannot spell. I also remembered how much I hate kid's parents.

hm.

Tuesday is L.

re-read editing note: Tuesday itself is not actually L. Tuesday is a pretty cool day, for the most part. I get to see my girls. I usually get fed at lunch by a really awesome person. Sometimes I get a chai. Buffy even was chosen to be on Tuesdays. If one were, say, at home, Tuesday would not suck at all.

I think the L part of Tuesday happens right around 9:45 when I wake up and realize that I am at work (and so does George), and lasts until around, ohhhhhhhhhh, 5:23, when I realize that I can get my stuff together to go home.

Now Thursday... Thursday is a day of almost complete L. There's the off chance that I get to hang with Steph and Vince, but that never works out right. Thursday is a big tease. (more on this on Thursday I would venture to guess)

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department cited Sellars for driving under the influence of intoxicants, assault, failing to maintain lane of travel, driving while suspended and for outstanding traffic tickets, the AP reported.

Campbell (Evil Dead), who makes his home in Jacksonville, Ore., was treated and released from the hospital.

"The bananas were handy so he decided to use them," said Duesseldorf police spokesman Norbert Peters.

"By the time the police arrived, the attendant's face and upper body were completely smeared with bananas," police said in a statement. He was not seriously injured.

Weapons expert dies. Sinister twist to Brit scandal over justification to invade Iraq.
SOUTHMOOR, England -- A body found in the Oxfordshire woods added a sinister twist yesterday to questions about the intelligence Prime Minister Tony Blair used to justify war in Iraq.

Police tentatively identified the dead man as David Kelly, a Defence Ministry expert suspected of being the source of media claims that the government hyped its reports on deposed Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Called before Parliament for an inquiry, Kelly, a former UN weapons inspector, denied being the source. His wife reportedly said he was stressed and "very, very angry" about being caught up in a public controversy.

Janice Kelly reported her husband missing Thursday night when he failed to return from an afternoon walk. The body was found yesterday morning on the edge of a clump of woods within 1.5 km of Kelly's home in the village of Southmoor, 30 km southwest of Oxford.

As the prime minister flew to Tokyo to begin an Asian tour, his office said there would be an independent inquiry if the dead man is positively identified as Kelly.

Kelly's apparent death was a sensational development in a scandal threatening the government's credibility.

The big issue is whether the prime minister misled the country about Iraq's weapons.

The drama also includes a highly personal feud between Blair's communications chief and a journalist from one of the world's most prestigious news organizations.

The furor started with a May 29 report by the British Broadcasting Corp. that an unidentified intelligence source had said a government file on Iraq was "sexed up" to make a more convincing case for military action.

Quoting an unidentified intelligence source, BBC defence correspondent Andrew Gilligan said the government had ignored experts' doubts in claiming Iraq could deploy some chemical and biological weapons within 45 minutes.

Gilligan later said his source had accused Blair's communications chief, Alastair Campbell, of insisting the claim be included.

Campbell denied that in testimony to the House of Commons foreign affairs committee.

Kelly told the committee that he had met Gilligan but did not think he was the source of the BBC report.

Kelly was grilled in a nationally televised committee session during which he was pressed to give the names of other journalists he had met.

Andrew Mackinlay, a legislator from Blair's Labour party, asked Kelly, "Have you ever felt like the fall guy? You have been set up, haven't you?"

Kelly replied, "I accept the process that is happening."

Meanwhile, a conference of top-level military analysts was told Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction months before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks - a message that later fell on deaf ears in the American capital, analysts say.

Former Canadian military officer-turned-analyst, Sunil Ram, remembers the June 2001 conference Understanding the Lessons of Nuclear Inspections and Monitoring in Iraq: A Ten-Year Review.

Ram says the conclusion was that "Iraq's nuclear weapons program (didn't exist) because (the Iraqi government) had dismantled it.

Big Brother Strikes Back
The subpoenas are flying, and we're naming names. Are you on the list?

By Tech Live staff
The Silicon Valley company that stops swappers

The recording industry has launched a sweeping effort to identify and shut down individual song swappers, making good on recent threats to expand its legal battle against copyright theft.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has now issued more than 911 subpoenas to Internet service providers across the United States, trying to get the names of people still offering music on file-sharing networks such as KaZaA and Grokster.

Today, "Tech Live" brings you the RIAA Hit List, the user names of file traders targeted in the recording industry subpoenas.

Last month, we brought you the story of Jesse Jordan, a 19-year-old college student who became one of the first to be hit with a lawsuit by the RIAA. Jordan settled his case by paying $12,000 to the RIAA.

The following user names were culled from subpoenas filed with the US District Court in Washington, DC. All subpoenas, incidentally, are being served by the Los Angeles law firm of Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp. A total of 253 RIAA subpoenas were listed as of July 22 through the federal court system's paid online database, PACER. The actual subpoenas are available to view online in about half the cases.

The court documents don't show individual users' real names. They do show file-sharing network user names, the user's ISP, the user's IP address, and a sampling of copyright songs the user allegedly made available for download. To date, many ISPs have been contacted, including Pac Bell Internet, SBC, Charter Communications, Comcast, Adelphia, RCN, and Time Warner.

Following is a list of the first user names from our review of the subpoenas.

Re: Yosemite bill passed
The parks administration has been trying to do this for years, with massive resistance from the general public. After a very similar program was tested in Zion National Park (Utah) and was amazingly successful, the parks administration has finally been able to implement the program in Yosemite. ( It's a real shame that this dumbshit congressman is trying to undo a plan that has been in the works since he was riding a bike to school. )

For those of you who might be a little hazy on your Yosemite history ... the park used to have more campgrounds, and allowed camping in the meadows in Yosemite Valley. This enabled more people to visit the park at one time, but lead to traffic jams, degredation of park facilities ( the staff couldn't keep up ), and worst of all, destruction of much of the valley floor by foot and automobile traffic.

In the early 70s, the National Park Service established one-way road traffic patterns, eliminated cars in the far east end of the Valley, offered free shuttle bus transportation in the Valley, converted the parking lot in front of the Valley Visitor Center to a pedestrian mall, and generally encouraged visitors to enjoy the park by walking or using public transportation. ( Yes, it has been that long, and people are still bitching about how they used to be able to drive to Mirror Lake. )

Sadly, the park needs protection from the people who want to see it. Overcrowding nearly destroyed the valley 30 years ago. With minimal funding, and mostly volunteers, the park is much better now. Hopefully, the NPS ( not exactly the "Bush Administration" ) will succeed in holding their ground. Hopefully, Gail Norton ( Secretary of the Interior, exactly the "Bush Administration" ) won't sell Yosemite to a logging company.

Yosemite bill passed
So, the Bush administration passed a bill to reduce the amount of cars, etc, into Yosemite. There are Californians who want the number back up to almost what it just was plus adding more campgrounds... I undeerstand the desire to let people into Yosemite to view it, and I understand that if spending for parks is increased, it may not be a good idea to kick people out of them, but I, personally, would have a much better time there if there were less people and less cars. I'd rather make my reservation super early and deal than have the disneyland like crowd that I saw when I was there last year. I think I may actually agree with something that passed while shrub was in office.... huh. Go figure.

Here's the article.

Comic Con Recap
So, while I sit here, waiting for some report to run (hey, it's billable, I don't see a reason I should do anything else while it's running), I thought I'd recap the whole Comic-con thing for people.

Wednesday: The ride down went super fast, Wendy and I got to go to the yarn store in so cal, and Carl and I got to go to the camera store and say hi to an old friend. We showed in SD up right as preview night was starting, so we went straight there.

We got there and the line was literally like 1/2 mile long to get the badges, but it went super fast so we had them in no time and went in. We scoped out 1/2 of the sales floor that night, and I went and did a testimonial on camera for the "ringers" documenatry that the lordoftherings.net people are making. It was pretty cool.

We got back to the hotel, and much to our dismay, our 2 room suite was one room with 2 beds, but we were too tired to fuss about it so we took it and went to sleep.

Thursday: Got up early and went down to see Grandma and have lunch. They pawned off some stuff on me and then we went to the con. 6 decades later, we found parking and resigned that we would take the shuttle from now on. We got in, did the other 1/2 of the floor and met up with some of the artists. Had some yumminess at The Spaghetti Factory and then went back to the hotel for some sleep.

Friday: Went in early to the con, got some sketches, sat in a panel on the Haunted Mansion (which looks rad BTW) and generally bummed around the con. Also met Wil Wheaton from Star Trek, some Bab 5 people (started out every conversation with "you can't tell me what happens!"), and some Buffy people. More SF for dinner - this time, we found Steph, and back for some sleep.

Saturday: Went straight in to the pannels (see earlier post), and sat there all day. By this time, my throat was hurting *SO* bad that I just wanted to sit all day anyway. The give-aways were really cool though so that was rad, and then we went down to meet up with Karl (Moline) after the show. He ran up and got the Fray axe. I wish I had a pic of Steph's face when she saw that. Man, that was great. Had some Thai for dinner and went to the masquerade party for like 10 minutes until we announced that it was mostly like a jr. high school dance.... Back to hotel for sleep.

Sunday: Went straight in to CrossGen to get a couple sketches and then to Eliza's panel on Tru Calling, which was pretty cool. Then made the long and hot journey home.

We had this great scheme where the 7 of us would run around all day and get a bunch of everything and throw it in a pile at the end of the day or whenever we met up so that we all got all of the stuff, but didn't have to stress about waiting in line for everything or going to all of the panels.

We never got back to the hotel before 11:00, which is a long day, but totally worth it. I already signed up for next year - you guys should do whatever it takes to get there - it's worth it just in give-aways and sketches! Even though I was sick the whole time, I still had a great time! The only thing I will do different is stay in a closer hotel and stay through Monday so I could enjoy Sat night instead of having to pack the car.

Only 363 days until next comic-con!!!

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & Firefly: The Movie News
From Steph:
Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & Firefly: The Movie: With this past weekend's success of the 'Pirates' movie, The Hollywood Reporter indicates Disney is already moving forward with plans for a sequel and
in fact made sequel arrangements with actors Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, as well as producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski. The first film's scribes Ted Elliott and
Terry Rossio have begun talks to pen the sequel but no storyline is yet planned. Meanwhile "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon confirmed to Sci-FI Wire that a film based on his failed sci-fi series "Firefly" is in the works which he'll write & direct - "What's happening with that is that I'm writing a script and I have some interest. But I won't know really until I finish a draft whether or not it's genuine. ... We have a pretty decent shot. It's not a crazed pipe dream".

Batman vrs Everything
Well here's the big Batman thing that was going on for "a select few" at Comicon...
WTF??!?

I auctualy found the movie with a single Kazaa search and I have to say though it's really impressive for a non-studio put together gig (the makeup effects in this are top-notch), the story is absolutely absurd. There's this "Surprise Ending" they keep mentioning in the article above and though I wont give it away I will tell you what it isn't. I had originaly thought, "Ah cool, it's got to be Superman. Batman vrs Superman at long last!". Nope, it takes a complete left turn and leaves the realms of plausability way behind. It's too bad as I really enjoyed the Joker segment of the film. Instead I get ripped out of my ability to take this short film seriously.

It can be found on Kazaa, it's about 44 megs in quicktime. How this can be considered to be "The" Batman by the fans and better then the Tim Burton movies I have no idea as it's only Batman for the first 3 minutes or so, after that it's like some fanboys wet dream put to screen. Honestly I was expecting Darth Vader to slice his way out of one of the garbage bins at some point. It should be called Batman Vrs 0tH3r uBer l33t fR4nchizzzez (p0wned eDision, w00t!).

PS If your not familiar with using Kazaa and you really want this, do a google search for Kazaa Light. That's Kazaa with the spyware ripped out of it. Otherwise normal Kazaa will install a hidden program that shares your idle cpu power for some marketing reason (I forget the details).

Comic-con update
Saturday was insane.

I sat in a whole bunch of panels and, get this, got to play with the axe from Fray/Buffy!!! Karl Moline is the penciler for the comic and we had become rather chummy so he took my art that I bought over to Joss's hotel with him when he went to pick up the axe. When he got back, he was all cute and excited and all "look what Joss gave me!!!!" and then proceeded to stake me with is, then I staked Steph (it has a retractable stake so you can kill vamps!!!) It was bitchin!!! We have pics which I will post later!

The inker (tracer) for Fray also was awesome and took the whole batch of my art over to Joss and cut in front of everyone when the line was capped and had him sign it all for me while I was getting other schwag. It was pretty cool.

Mostly, I spent today in panels... Movies that look cool - underworld (even though Kate is one of the STUPIDEST people that I have ever seen), Hellboy, and most notably, Troy, which looks REALLY cool.

I also saw Angelina, who is even more beautiful in person and without makeup, Halle Berry, who is also radient, the hobbits and Andy Serkis, who was very cool!

Good day and lots of cool free crap so YAY!

Will be back tomorrow after 4 more hours of fun!!!

Left Behind, The Continuing Saga

She is not coming back.

The small one and I have resigned ourselves to the fact that the food bringer will never return. The small one blames herself. I blame her too.

The male returned again to fuss about in the yard. He must like it out there. He pushed one of the food bringer's toys around the yard, trailing a fun looking cord. I meowed to him that he should let me out so that I could play with the cord, but he must not have heard me.

Later he spent a lot of time moving the water toy around the yard. I sat in the doorway and tried to tell him of the futility of trying to keep grass green in this desert climate, and that the forecast was for at least another week of hot weather, but again, he must not have heard me.

After so many days with so little human contact, the small one and I were, what is the word? Ah, yes, "all wiggledy" when the male came indoors. It is, of course, beneath me, but ... what can you do? There are legs, and you know you want to rub on them. It is so difficult to resist.

Saddened by the fact that the food bringer will never return, we have decided to sleep all day AND all night.

-- Le Chat Nuit Noire   aka Onyx

Report from comic-con
Comic-con rules!

I am SO. DAMN. TIRED.

Fortunatley, we have the biggest and longest day tomorrow so I can get completley broken from all the fun. Hey, if you gotta go out, this is the way to go!

Gonna meet Angelina, Kate, and Hugh tommorrow - hopefully a bunch of hobbits too!

Anyone who is reading this should ask for time off right now for next year - you are totally missing out!

Left Behind, Day 2

Sensing that we may be on our own for several nights, we had a party.

Many of the neighborhood cats stopped in. We played "move the shoes", which was very popular with the kittens. There are shoes all over the house. We played "chase". Ahhhh, yes. There is no better game.

I knocked that idiot "HAY" off the high score list on "Road Rage". This is not my favorite game for the X-Box, but without thumbs ... well ... you play whatever game is in the box.

We had just finished grooming and saying "au revoir" to the last of our guests when the male that had come yesterday again intruded on our fun. He played with the food and water bowls, opened windows, fussed with things on the floor, but he soon grew bored of those tasks and left.

Since we didn't get any sleep last night, we have decided to sleep all day.

-- Le Chat Nuit Noire   aka Onyx

Re: Left Behind, Day 1
Tell the producers of poop that the food bringer is having a blast and may not return.

Be afraid....

Be very afraid......

(miss you guys - we are having a really good time.)

Left Behind, Day 1

The food bringer left yesterday, shortly after daylight.

The small one and I knew that something was up the night before. The food bringer was searching the house and stuffing things into bags. We've seen this before. She's not coming back for several nights. Luckily, she left the Q-Tips on the table for us.

We had a close call this morning. One of the males came into the house. Thinking quickly, we distracted him by rubbing all over him. I don't think he saw anything, but this one is tricky. Only time will tell.

We don't know when the food bringer will return, but perhaps one of the males will be back before the food bowls run empty. The male that came in this morning showed his respect by cleaning our litter box. Perhaps he will return with food.

As always, we are skeptical about the return of the food bringer. We will sleep all day to conserve energy.

I am wondering if I have a bad work eithic, or if most people encounter this problem - which, I guess, are not mutually exclusive.

The thing is, I sit here and play with my blog and read online stuff and generaly goof off DESPITE the fact that I know that I really need to get some stuff done because I am only here for 2 days this week.

I think I'll go ponder on that for a while while I look for yarn for Wendy....

Cyberfest
OK, so I got tix to Cyberfest already. September 20 - $35 at the cow palace. Last year was very cool - had a really good time.

Those of you interested in a massive, it ends fairly early (last year was like 2 or 3 am) and features, noatbly, Christopher Lawrence and Kraftwerk Live! featuring Karl Bartos.

R.E.M.
OK, me and Chris have lawn seats tickets to R.E.M. on Saturday, September 6 at Shoreline. If you want to come, you are welcome, but you must secure your own tickets.

It's supposedly an all request concert from KFOG so you could theoretically go request what you wanted to hear and, if enough people agree with you, you could hear it.

review: Pirates
Great. Go see it.
It's worth seeing more than once, I think (so I may go see it again tomorrow).

review: LXG
I give it an "eh."

It was ok, not great, but an interesting thing to do for the eveing with my friends. I'd watch it again on video or whatever.

One snap up, no twist, no kiss.

People talk crap on Clinton - dude should get a hooker a day for the rest of his life for what he did for this country as far as I am concerned - I'll even vote for tax dollars to fund it .

I am serious guys, do whatever you can to get whoever you know to vote, espcially if they are in other states.... It isn't rocket science, but it will take a huge effort.

DM, it would be nice if shrub's motives were a little more pure, but unfortunately they're not. There's just too much history with the US, the Bush family, the Bin Laden's, Hussein, Israel and the entire Middle-East. I have a degree in Poly-Sci and have closely followed Middle-Eastern politics for 15 years.

US foreign policy has always been predicated on a broad spectrum dominance policy. That translates into making sure the US is always #1 as a military prescence to enforce the will of industry, and ensure that no one ever approaches the level of being a capable, credible threat to that dominace. The exception to that of course are places like China and Russia which are just too huge to tell what to do, short of WWIII.

American media doesn't help. It's woefully remiss in what it reports to the public at large. Did you know that the CIA has been, and still is, the largest purchaser/supplier of "(dis)information" in the US. Conspiratorial as it sounds, it's sadly true and can be verified through the Library of Congress and FOIA.

Consider the new spin we see today. During the Vietnam conflict, you saw body bags and coffins comin home every night on television. This certainly helped bolster the anti-war movement, hence the reason you don't see that sort of footage today.

What you're allowed to see are carefully crafted pieces of PR like Jessica Lynch. Jingoistic banter and flag waving all carefully crafted to sell the image of America and cloud peoples vision to the reality of it all.

The very short and simple reasons this whole war of aggression is about petroleum are pretty obvious to anyone in the know.

#1) Iraq's infrastructure is in piss poor shape and needs rebuilding to the tune of 10's of billions of dollars. Who has recieved the contracts for that work without even bidding? Betchel and Kellog, Brown and Root (a Haliburton subsidiary). Haliburton is Cheny's old company and Betchel has deep ties with the GOP. So far they've been awarded 6.1 billion dollars worth of work.

#2) When the oil starts flowing in real volume, then you'll see corps like Chevron (Condy Rice's old company) and the others cleaning up. Controlling Iraqi oil effectively puts an armlock on OPEC. The US can now not only tell OPEC to fuckoff, but they can maintain the whole "terrorist" BS as leverage to justify an invasion and bust up OPEC entirely-whilst further lining the pockets of their supporters. Mark my words, if Bush gets re-elected he'll be going after Iran and Syria.

#3) Afghanistan. I won't even get into Afghanistan, but suffice it to say that was another con. The warlords are back in power and so long as they get to grow their poppies and get a cut of the profits for the pipelines now being built through their territories, the US is happily turning a blind eye. Unocal, Exxon, etc. all have pipeline construction under way which should be complete around 2005, which will pump natural gas from Turmekistan and Afghanistan into the Caspian Sea for transport. This is why Russia went into Afghanistan in the first place and Regan opposed them so hard (including the finance and training of Bin Laden).

#4) The Military Idustrial Intelligence Complex comes up smiling from all of this. Particularly the Carslyle Group which is now the world's largest military contractor headed up by all the ex-Regan (Frank Carlucci) and Bush Sr. cronies (including the Bushter himself). Since Regan, the MIIC has received about 4 trillion dollars while education and social spending has amounted to about 300 billion. Bush part 2 has seen their funding increase over 400% himself. Those guys love it. Let's face it, if there's no enemy, there's no reason to waste...er spend all that money is there?

It goes, on and on. It's a goddamned tradgedy that so many people just have zero idea about what this all about.

If you're interested in getting a better understanding of all of this, here are two books yo should buy/get from the library.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1567510523/ref=ase_counterpunchmaga/002-7426943-6336844?v=glance&s=books

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0671799320/qid=1054373439/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/103-4010105-0145464?v=glance&s=books

I think it's great that people want to be so optimistic about government, but they really need to make a concerted effort to question the motives of those in power if they consider themselves moral and decent people.

Bush is a real criminal plain and simple. Clinton might have been a crook and into self-aggrandizement, but he's a boy scout compared to guys like Bush and Cheny.

Then there's the economy.

Regan - deficit, recession, mass unemployment
Bush Sr. - deficit, recession, mass unemployment
Clinton - deficit eliminated, boom economy, surplus employment
Bush Jr. - largest deficit in history, recession, mass unemployment, the worst environmental record of any president, and he's still not finished.

It's not rocket science.

Now, all that considered, do you really want a GOP administration in for another 4 years-or ever-for that matter?

Spaceweather News
NOCTILUCENT CLOUDS: Look west after just sunset any evening this summer. If you see luminous blue-white tendrils spreading across the sky, you've probably spotted a night-glowing or "noctilucent" cloud.

Noctilucent clouds (NLCs) are puzzling. They're inside Earth's atmosphere, but just barely; at an altitude of 80 km, NLCs are near the edge of space. Some scientists think they're seeded by meteoroids. Others suspect they're a telltale sign of global warming.

Although noctilucent clouds appear most often at high latitudes--e.g. places like Scandinavia and Canada--they have been sighted as far south as Colorado and Utah in recent years.

This month our readers have reported seeing a good number of these clouds. Visit spaceweather.com to browse a gallery of their images and to learn how to spot the clouds yourself.

Missing Python Slithers Out of Dutch Toilet Bowl
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A pet python missing over the last two months made its reappearance by scaring a Dutch woman when it slithered out of her toilet bowl.

The constrictor snake, which kills its prey by coiling around it and squeezing, had been on the loose for more than two months after breaking out of its terrarium in a town near the port city of Rotterdam, Dutch news agency ANP said on Thursday.

As police and vets came to catch the two-meter long

fugitive python, it slid under a bathtub that they had to demolish to capture it.

The snake was returned to its owner, but local residents were unhappy to hear the owner admit that a second pet python, this one almost one-meter long, had also escaped and was still on the loose.

Harry Potter Fan's Magic Attempt Sets House Ablaze
from Yahoo News:

MADRID (Reuters) - A woman set her Madrid home on fire as she cooked up a potion in an attempt to imitate the fictional wizard Harry Potter (news - web sites), emergency services said.

The 21-year-old was rescued Wednesday by firemen and treated for minor injuries, but half her home was destroyed.

The ambulance service said she had told them she was trying to emulate the boy magician, hero of the books by J K Rowling that have been a sensation among adults and children alike.

For want of more magical ingredients, the woman cooked up a potion of water, oil, alcohol and toothpaste, local media reported. It was unclear what spell she was trying to weave.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that it was some sort of intelligence-increasing potion. Clearly it's needed and clearly the attempt failed.

"It's Italian-American Sausage, dammit!"
From Wired News' Furthermore:

Struck Out Swinging
Milwaukee is the home of the sausage, so the city's baseball team (those woeful Brewers) stages a footrace between the sixth and seventh innings of every game where four contestants run around the diamond dressed like sausages. There's a bratwurst, a Polish, a hot dog and an Italian. Wednesday night's race came to an abrupt end as the sausages sped past the dugout of the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. For reasons known only to himself, Pirates first baseman Randall Simon took a bat and whacked the Italian sausage, causing her to trip and fall (and take out the hot dog as she went down). The 19-year-old woman scrapped [sic] a knee but was otherwise unhurt. The Brewers were outraged, the Pirates contrite and Simon will be interviewed by the Milwaukee district attorney's office on Thursday.

The Collect Call of Cthulhu

More Cthulhu Related Lyrics
THE THING THAT SHOULD NOT BE
(Hetfield, Ulrich, Hammett)

Messenger of fear in sight
Dark deception kills the light

Hybrid children watch the sea
Pray for father, roaming free

Crawling chaos, underground
Cult has summoned, twisted sound

Out from ruins once possessed
Fallen city, living death

Not dead which eternal lie
Stranger eons death may die

Drain you of your sanity
Face the thing that should not be

Fearless wretch
Insanity
He watches
Lurking beneath the sea
Great old one
Forbidden site
He searches
Hunter of the shadows is rising

immortal
in madness you dwell

The Teddy Bears Summon Cthulhu!

"If you go out to the woods today
You won't like what you will find
If you go out to the woods today
You're certain to lose your mind
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the teddy bears summon Cthulhu!

Ritual time for teddy bears!
The little teddy bears are waking the Elder Gods today!
Smell the incense in the air!
And see them dancing their eldritch ballet!
See the waving tentacles
While in their pentacles
They summon your worst nightmares!
And soon their Lord, Great Old One Cthulhu
Will rise up from the sea
Because they're faithful little teddy bears

You could go out to the woods today
With the bears and their evil tome
It's lovely out in the woods today
But safer to stay at home
Beneath the trees where nobody sees
They'll chant and pray as long as they please
Today's the day the teddy bears summon Cthulhu!"

Who`s going to be Willie Wonka?
Judging from the casting buzz being overheard by ourselves and Dark Horizons, it looks like the search is well underway to find the new Willie Wonka in Tim Burton's remake of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY.

According to one of our scoopers, Christopher Walken (CATCH ME IF YOU CAN) is one of the leaders emerging from the acting talent pool. It wouldn't be the first time Walken's worked with Burton; the actor played the part of scheming industrialist Max Schreck in BATMAN RETURNS.

But here's where it gets stranger: yesterday Dark Horizons ran a rumor that Walken's adversary in BATMAN RETURNS, namely Michael Keaton himself, is also being considered for the role of the candy tycoon.

So is Burton looking back at the BATMAN franchise to find his Wonka?

YES!!!!!!!!!! Christopher Walken would RULE as Wonka!!!

Crocodile's Dilemma: Logic problem
An unsolvable problem in logic dating back to the ancient Greeks and quoted, for example, by German philosopher Carl von Prantl (1855). The dilemma consists of a crocodile capturing a child and promising his father that he will release it provided that the man can tell in advance what the crocodile is going to do. The father says that the crocodile will not give the child back. What should the crocodile do?

Now what's really gonna bake your noodle later is whther or not he would have broken the vase if she hadn't said anything....
