R.I.P.2k5
Well, the last week of '05 has been a drag. I have worked 12 hour days all week, went in for a full day yesterday even though the rest of the company was off (although I did manage to escape to see pride and prejudice, which was wonderful) and today I need to work more from home on both Shaklee and Luxtron stuff.
The rest of the year seemed satisfactory enough. Good concerts, good friends, good parties, not too much drama other than getting myself official in the Shaklee rulebook. Even that is done and over. Had some really great trips to Coachella, SDCC, and Hawaii with some great people, and moved to my new pee free apartment. (those of you who don't know what that means, count your blessings.)
All in all a good year. I am excited about 2k6 and finally being my dream age - 28. :-)
Now it is off to shower, take care of some stuff and head down to Kingman for working while my car gets worked on and then some NYE fun w/ the peeps.

Well, we went to see Pride and Prejudice on Monday evening, but it was sold out, so we settled for
Casanova. Actually it was funny, and cute, and entertaining. I would recommend it across the board. Heath Ledger is really good, actually, and it reminds me a lot of Much Ado About Nothing, in that "Shakespear might have written this if he were alive today" sort of way. Classic comedy set in old world Venice...
BTW, there's eye candy for the boys and the girls in this one, so don't be shy about Netflixing it, boys (if you do, your girlfriends will love you even more!)

So I went with my mom to the after Christmas sales and found a new printer that looked oh-so-useful as I can't find the damned power cable for mine since I moved. It was sold out of the stores and actually got an 8.9 on CNET, which is really good. Since it was, in fact, sold out, Best Buy is mailing me one and I should have it by Friday! the best part of this is that my mom bought it for me as my "Birthday Present" along with a bunch of well needed work clothes.

ZOMBIES: LIVING DEAD in 3D
A new German film company, Lux Digital Pictures, is working on a 3-D remake of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
Lux and producer-director Jeff Broadstreet describe the project as a "homage" to George Romero's film, whose title is in public domain. The script was written by Robert Valding.
The film will be budgeted at approximately $2 million. Lux Digital is currently shopping the film to international distributors. [

CanMag.com is reporting, off an Entertainment Tonight broadcast, that Peter Jackson is considering a sequel to THE FRIGHTENERS.
Jackson told ET, he's hoping the new FRIGHTENERS DVD sells well enough that he could possibly convince Universal to do a sequel. He would even love to see Michael J. Fox return for a small role. [

On Neil's blog I learned about SantaCon. It is described thusly:
Every December, for the last 12 years, Cacophonous Santas have been visiting cities around the world and generating a bit of naughty Christmas fun as part of the annual Santacon events. It all started back in 1994 when several dozen Cheap Suit Santas paid a visit to downtown San Francisco for a night of Kringle Kaos. Things have reached Critical Xmas and Santarchy is now a global phenomenon.
Basically, they get hundreds of peeps dressed up in snta outfits and go drink. What fun! I kinda wanna do it, just for the photo opp.
I particularly like their FAQ section thingy #4:

Breathing a sort of sigh of relief
Well, class is over, book club is over, and I have only one more holiday party to go at work. I am adding a skein of yarn to my mom's blanket and then I plan on going in and trying to get some normal sleep for once.
Looking forward to a much needed rest and week of playing, with some client work rolled in.

So Cathy, A VP at my company, sent this to a slew of Senior VPs yesterday:
If we had an award, "Employee of 2005," I would nominate Noelle Heany. Not just because she is the official owner of my liver and other organs I've had to offer her for saving other less vital, but admittedly highly valued parts of my body at the last possible moment, ALWAYS, but because she's fast, accurate, professional, hates when she makes a mistake, and loves saving the day for the likes of all of us who are also at the mercy of horrible time frames, last minute changes, and nifty, zippy sales programs that have to be made available online and fast. Was that a run-on sentence? Well, if it were in an article I sent to Noelle to post, she'd fix it, before she asked for my approval, since she's all about change control.
And she is also all about "can do." I value this, immensely, about Noelle, as well as her humor in Instant Messaging. She needs lots of recognition for her attitude, since how could we possibly be paying her enough and who else would carefully, lovingly format a list of 682 people who sponsored someone with a minimum 100 PV order for the holidays?
Make sure she knows how valuable she is. In as many ways as you can. Clone her, if possible. We need another Noelle. As soon as possible.
Please feel free to share this with anyone who could make that happen?

Well, I can see it. The light at the end of the tunnel approaches. Actually, now that I think about it, it doesn't.
I got through my party (very much fun and what a wonderful bunch of friends I have!).
I got my mockups done this weekend (not entirely happy with them but I have no content whatsoever so I think they will get better when I do).
I got a large portion of my stamp project done for my design concets class done (although I have a huge chunk of it to do tomorrow, including print and mount :-/).
I went to Paduan's X-mas party (fun, and filling!).
I basically have one more week to get through and then I can relax for a moment before it starts up again. I have one more Christmas party for work on Tuesday, plus the Shaklee book club Christmas lunch on Tuesday as well. I have my final on Tuesday also. After that, it should be gravy for a week or so.
On Wednesday, I get to have dinner at George's house, which I am looking forward to. Thursday is ice skating in SJ with Esther and Eschelon peeps. Friday I get to go to Cheralyn's Caroling party. Saturday my mom shows up and we head to Stockton for 24 hours. Then Christmas and she will go home the day after.
That next week I am gonna relax and do what work I will have for my clients before the new year. Work is going to be crazy until the 7th, when people get back from vaca and we have a huge event that happens simultaneously in 200 cities all across the US on the same day. Then I will start the Luxtron re-design, which Laura and I are working on together and we expect to be very busy with for a month or two.
Sigh. It never stops. I think that's a good thing, generally, but what I wouldn't give for a month to just hang out with no pre-plans and no after work work or stupid issues to deal with. Maybe someday....

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A bipartisan group of U.S. senators, demanding increased protection of civil liberties, defied
President George W. Bush on Friday and blocked legislation to renew the USA Patriot Act, a centerpiece of his war on terrorism.
On a Senate vote of 52-47, mostly Republican backers of the measure fell eight short of the needed 60 to end debate and move to passage of it.
Proponents of the legislation warned that much of sweeping anti-terror law was to expire at the end of the month, and if it did, the nation could be placed at increased risk.
"We have a clear choice before us today: Do we advance against terrorism to make America safer or do we retreat," Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Tennessee Republican, said shortly before the vote.
Senate Democratic and Republican foes of the proposed renewal said the law could be swiftly reauthorized if lawmakers agreed to better balance national security with civil liberties.
"None of us wants it to expire, and those who threaten to let it expire rather than fix it are playing a dangerous game," said Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat. [

They're messin' up my pooh! Pooh Gets New Girlfriend
The Walt Disney Co. is planning a new Winnie the Pooh television series for 2007, which will introduce a new character, an as-yet-unnamed 6-year-old girl, in place of a young boy, Christopher Robin, the Reuters news service reported.
A Disney spokeswoman told Reuters that the new character "is not a replacement for Christopher Robin" and added that the role of the character based on author A.A. Milne's son in the upcoming series is still to be determined, although it will not be central.
The girl will be the star of the series as she moves next door to the beloved characters created by the English author about 80 years ago: Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo, plus a new character, Lumpy, introduced in a recent Pooh movie.
A 22-minute pilot was produced and tested worldwide in focus groups of preschoolers and parents, all to very positive feedback, the spokeswoman told Reuters.
The series will be produced by Disney Television Animation and is scheduled to premiere in 2007 on Disney channels around the globe. [

Japan's Studio Ghibli, the Japanese studio and home of anime master Hayao Miyazaki (Howl's Moving Castle), announced that it will adapt Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea fantasy novel series in an animated movie called Gedo Senki (Tales From Earthsea), the IGN FilmForce Web site reported. SAN FRANCISCO - Add another creation to the strange scientific menagerie where animal species are being mixed together in ever more exotic combinations. Scientists announced Monday that they had created mice with small amounts of human brain cells in an effort to make realistic models of neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease.
Led by Fred Gage of the Salk Institute in San Diego, the researchers created the mice by injecting about 100,000 human embryonic stem cells per mouse into the brains of 14-day-old rodent embryos.

Pac-Lan
Researchers in the Department of Communication Systems, Lancaster University (UK), have developed a game which can be played by up to five players on mobile phones.
Pac-Lan enables players to keep track of one another’s position through images on their mobile phones as they chase one another round campus.
Each phone has been programmed with a maze, which is based on a map of the University Campus. Players have to collect points from RFID tags, which have been attached to yellow disks on lampposts around the University.
When a player collects their points by holding their mobile phone against the disc the virtual reality maze on each mobile phone is updated with the player’s position. Each player shows up as an animated character (Pac-Lan or Ghost) moving round the screen. This enables a team of "ghosts" to track the player down and catch them. [

Damn Fine Party
So the annual potluck went very well, even after most people got stuck in a horrendus amount of traffic, and some got stranded at Bart stations. There was much deliscious food, much awesome gift giving (I think we made Esther's year), much good booze, and much good company. Morgan got the Nintendo DS from me, Esther and Carl, and got Nintendogs from Chris, I believe, so he sat around yelling "Sit Mongo!" into it all night while the dog disobeyed him. I can't believe that thing has voice recognition software in it, and I am very curious to see how Amber's week is going to go with Morgan yelling at his toy constantly.
Special thanks goes out to Jenn and Morgan, who helmed the cleanup effort so that I could go on the porch and smokily socialize and be drunk.
I love all of my presents and I hope that you all had a great time too. Coming soon: Dave as the Pimp Daddy, and Esther as his pimp-ee... ;-)

A little nucking futs...
Mostly prepared for
tomorrow today, and if I am not, well, people can have their shit unwrapped and I can throw all the misc in the closet. So we are approaching very close to done!
Good news is that the tables fit, with millimeter for people to sqeek into their chairs, so I can, in fact, serve dinner for 18 in my apartment. Good to know for when Aerosmith is in town.
I am very excited about it as it promises to be a good party, what with all the presents neatly laid out and a half gallon of vodka and mixers in the freezer. ;-)
My spine doesn't feel like it will ever go back in the right place, so I am gonna go lay in my sweet resting place and hope that when I wake up, everything is ok.

Update on Coalee
Ok, i just spoke to her. She is absolutley ok.
Basically, she woke up and then started to have symptoms similar to when I have my migrains. Slurred speach, vision issues, headache, etc. but she just thought it was the onset of a migraine. She went to sleep. She got up and went to school and had some small issues still but thought she was ok. When she went home, Sean and her mom freaked out and dragged her to the hospital. She had an MRI and Electrocardiogram, and a battery of other tests. The saw that she has an abnormality on her
thalamus which indicates that she had a stroke.
Why? They don't know. It is either a blood clot travels to the brain or plaque that gets in there somehow. They think it was a blood clot, so they took blood. She told them that she was on birth control and they said that that hypes up your clotting ability and NO ONE that has migrains should ever take hormolal birth control (wish my doctor had told me that) as it increases your chances of having a stroke by 80% (migrains already increaase your chances).
After three days of hospital, she has returned home, with a sore throat from tubes being stuck down it (cameras were sent all over her body to ensure that her heart - she has palpitations - and arteries are ok - they are), but thotherwise, she feels absolutley fine. She isn't allowed to excercise the way she normally does for 2 weeks and she has to take an aspirin a day for the rest of her life now, but she is ok.
I feel better now that I have talked to her.

I have some scary news from SoCal.
I got this from Coalee today:
i've been in the hospital for the past 3 days...i had a mini stroke on tuesday...kinda fun, but i don't recommend it cuz of the neurological damage it does to the brain (heehee). i just got back home and i feel a lot better. the neurologist said that if he hadn't looked at my mri he would never have known that i had a stroke, so that's definitely a +!!
So I sent her flowers and signed all of our names. She should get these tomorrow:
I am sending happy energy into the world for her, please do the same when you have a moment. I'm really worried about her, but she seems ok and in good spirits from the rest of her email. That *is* all I know, but I will report more when I call her tomorrow.

Ah! Now you're thinking! However, I feel like there's some evolutionary flow to these for-access-via-body-part-killing-sprees. Start with easy to remove didgets... people realize those are too simple to take, and also, you could still leave the person alive if you are compassionate... need better, less accessable body partys that more frequently require actual killings.. move to whole hands... then on to eyes.

Oddly, I would hav ethought that it was because the film was actually done inlike March or April of last year and they just held out on it showing to make a better box office weekend. Thus, it actually took the normal 6 months to be released... but no. It's about re-couping the payoff of the advertising dollars for the studio. Fine by me. I may actually get to get a copy for Christmas now. :-)

NIN all over again
Saw the Santa Cruz NIN show last night. Damn, I love going to Trent's shows. I was shorter than the last show, and I had a better overall show in
Oakland, but it was still really cool. They did tone it down a little with the stage setup, but still had the elaborate background lighting as can be seen in my Coachella Photo:
They played all of my favs to hear at a show and some good new additions to that list. Overall, great time.
Highlight: Really great version of Closer.

What I want to know is why this is top news worthy? So? Look, at this point, we have either learned our lesson and will supply easily accessablle life saving devices, or we will go down with the ship, but the speed at which the ship went down decades ago is rather a mute point since a) hundreds of others ships have gone down before *and* since with little mention and b) our safety standards are decidedly better now. Those folks are long gone, and at this point, it doesn't really incease our chances of building better ships, so why plaster it all over the news again and again?
Jesus people, if you get on a boat, you might die. If you get in a car, you might die. If you get out of BED, you might die. Don't worry about the speed at which an ancient ship went down, most of those folks are dead, worry about the cheeseburger you are stuffing in there and whether or not that is going to give you a corinary in the next 5 years.

Today is my Shakleeversary
doesn't feel like a year has gone by since I got here, but I guess it has. :-)
cars = storage no more
Well, I finally unloaded my cars tonight. All that relief I was feeling about how well all of my stuff fit into my house and how I didn't have *that* much to do before the party this weekend faded, and dread set in. I have been jamming for about 2 hours now and I can, in fact, see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's a dim and distant light, but I know it's there.
On the bright side, the reason that I am so stressed is because I get to go see NIN in a club setting in Santa Cruz tomorrow night. And not having enough time because you are gonna go have a really great time with a really large group of people doesn't sound like that big of a problem indeed.
There's the saga of the Turkey, in which a small voice in my head and a very loud voice that came out of my mouth had an argument about the need to get in the car at 10:30 tonight to get the turkey, and what happened for the HOUR after that, but that will have to wait for later, as I need to go put more things away now.

What a weekend
So this weekend was kind of crazy. I had no internet all weekend for varous reasons, or there'd have been a lot more posting.
Friday night: Shaklee Christmas Party. Whoo HOO! Never seen that many co-workers that drunk and hanging all over eachother before. Here's a formal, public appology to Carl for Janice kissing him, and a general warning not to get near my work-peeps with alocohol.
Saturday: Unpacking, Lunch w/ Elizabeth and Melissa. I hate unpacking.
Saturday Night: Echelon Christmas Party. Much better than my party! Great location, fabulous food, good alcohol, nice band, good people. We closed that party down at 12 and then went to a friend's house for a couple more hours and a couple more bottles of wine. Got home at 3:30. Fun factor = Self explaantory.
Sunday: Unpacking, lunch with cousins and great Aunt, and Aeon Flux w/ Chris, who has visited the new abode. Unpacking still sucks. Family time was good. Aeon Flux was not half as crappy as it should have been given the trailer so I was pleased.
Still have cars full of crap to unload and deal with. *sigh* I'll start at lunch today.
