Hoodoos at Bryce

Hoodoos at Bryce, originally uploaded by Lbc42.

Hey from Bryce! It's beautiful here right now! I am super exhausted after not much sleep, but we still managed to get here, check in and then head out for sunset at the hoodoos.

There's no internet anywhere near here so I may be off the grid for a couple days (using the Internet at a resteraunt right now). Hope everyone is having a great long weekend!

The History of Weed

The Jewish Origins of Spock’s Vulcan Salute on Star Trek

new trailer for Surrogates, a new Bruce Willis sci-fi movie

A new clip from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

ABC is re-making the TV series V
And the trailer for it has just gone live. I am torn between saying "Dude, another remake?" and the fact there are a lot of actors that I really like in it and that the trailer does not look half bad.

Anyway, check it out:

And now we have Wedding Party Pics...
I compiled pics from Chuckie, Kevin, and Amy and made a flickr set of the wedding party pics, prominently featuring rowdy table 6 (AKA, the table that Spencer was only at for 1 hour before he passed out). Man, you guys were drunk.

I'll add more to that set if anyone ever gives me other pics. [check it out]

Honeymoon Pics are all loaded up!
Enjoy!

If you have delicate sensibilities, then avoid the last 20 or so as they are of very hard ween in Athens. (tee hee)

First Trailer for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes

Thanks everyone, for a fun BBQ yesterday!
That was way more people than I actually expected to come and was very fun, even though I was working on like no sleep at all. I'll try and post pictures from my new camera soon!

re: i have finally been de-flowered
Nice. ;-)

I don't actually *play* rockband - I am more of a groupie. I just sit around and do shit on my computer while everyone else plays. I lack the coordination necessary to play actual fake instruments with friends.

I am glad that you have joined the 21st century. :-)

i have finally been de-flowered
after a couple of years of avoiding the inevitable, i finally played rock band tonite

it is a bit frustrating if you are used to playing real instruments but still lots of fun and a nice way to kinda sorta play music with friends of mine who dont play real instruments. yes i know that many of you are thinking "welcome to 2008!" but whatever. me likey. me want play again. me breaking the "dont drink and blog" rule. oooops

Mid-week catch up
Man, May is flying by as usual. I can't wait for it to calm down some, although I don't really see that happening any time soon. Here's the past and the future:

Friday night: Saw Star Trek. Despite Morgan saying it was crap, I liked it. I was happy with pretty much everything except the huge plot device they use to get out of the situation in the end, but whatev. It was better than the rest of them, and frankly, that is how Star Trek rolls (plot devices and all). Highly recommended for a summer flick. Looking forward to T4, Transformers 2, and UP. Oh, and that little franchise we like to call Harry Potter.

Saturday: Went Bowling for Staph's Birthday. That was super fun! Would do again!! Then hung out with Mike in Palo Alto, ate Zao and learned what the frak is up with Lego Star Wars (note to self: start playing Lego Star Wars).

Sunday: Birthday Picnic for Dave Mac and Bev. Drunk at a winery kind of picnic so it was super fun. Good to lay around under some trees and drink with friends.

Today: Girl night. Activities of Girl night are top secret unless you are a girl.

Tomorrow: Lunch at Shaklee and then D&D at Chris Lindsay's

Thursday: Esther's birthday party at PF Chang's. YAY!

Friday: Wicked with Rachel, Steph, Esther and Kevin.

Saturday: Canada Colledge Fashion Show with Nancy and Aaron and maybe Amber.

Next weekend is NIN/Jane's Addiction and then a 5 day road/photo trip to Bryce and some other parts of Utah, as yet to be determined.

At some point, I should attempt to find a job... I even had one in the bag last week, but the money was low enough that I got talked out of it. My advisers were right, I would have eventually resented the job for the poor pay and so it was probably a bad idea. Hopefully I can manage to scrounge something else up in the next few months. I am gonna try and get one that meets my lifestyle needs this time, so that may take some time. Until that time comes, I am enjoying relaxing and getting things done around here!

Re: facebook
I wouldn't count on getting a factory replacement. My, uh, manufacturers are no longer in the business of producing additional life forms. And I *really* wouldn't want to ask them to try, either.

Re: facebook
Oh ya, and I still have not heard a way to solve my biggest argument against: I don't have time or want to update one more thing. It would all be duplicate anyway, and then I'd have to make time to read a whole lot more stuff that people sent out. I guess i could sleep even less...

Re: facebook
ok, Rachel causes me the following symptoms all the time:
* Dizziness
* Tingling in the extremities
* Loss of balance or coordination
* Slurred speech
* Temporary blindness
* Heart palpitations

(Mostly because we drink together)

I have issue with this one:
# Do not taunt Rachel - because that is really no fun

# Rachel comes with a lifetime guarantee - I'd like to see the warranty info on that. Does this mean we can do whatever we want to Rachel and she'll be in full operating order for life or be replaced by the manufacturer?

Re: facebook

  • Warning: pregnant women, children under ten, and the elderly should not be exposed to Rachel

  • Discontinue use of Rachel if you experience the following symptoms:
    • Itching
    • Vertigo
    • Dizziness
    • Tingling in the extremities
    • Loss of balance or coordination
    • Slurred speech
    • Temporary blindness
    • Profuse sweating
    • Heart palpitations

  • If Rachel begins to smoke, get away immediately: seek shelter and cover head

  • Rachel may stick to certain kinds of skin

  • Ingredients in Rachel include a glowing substance which fell to earth, presumably from outer space

  • Do not taunt Rachel

  • Rachel comes with a lifetime guarantee

RE: facebook
Oops ... looks like you forgot to read the disclaimers:

* Rachel is a mean and vicious tease. Use with caution. Eye protection recommended. Lay flat to dry. Lather, rinse, repeat.

P.S. Do you really want to bite me... or this warm delicious gooey cookie? Hmmmmm???

Listen to The Crystal Method’s New Album: 'Divided By Night'
for free - here! Enjoy!

Comes out next Tuesday!

RE: facebook
Rachel is mean and vicious. She is now teasing me with stuff that i can't see because I am not on facebook. This does not make me want to join more, this makes me want to bite Rachel more.

That is all.

RE: facebook
oooooooooooooooooh look at all the peer pressure! i'm not on facebook either but all signs point to me signing up soon. here is what i think you should do

  • if you do sign up, DONT USE YOUR REAL NAME! that way noone can search for you if you dont want them to and you can just be friends with the people you know who are trying to get you to join. and their friends. which may be bad. oh well
  • if someone does try to friend you and you dont want them to, just ignore them! if they get upset you can tell them to post a bulletin on their myspace because they are being a little baby.
  • last and most important of all, if you do get a job do not let anyone know you have a facebook! this may be a little more difficult for you as i know you actually like to make friends with coworkers. you can be facebook friends with them when you get another job. "sorry i lied! job security! we can be friends now though".
if they cant search for you by name and dont know any mutual friends, you should be fine. it also helps to use a somewhat obscure photo for your profile. if you give it a shot and it doesnt work out you can always delete it. i'll be watching to see what happens.

re: facebook
Still pondering. Still waiting for a really compelling argument - so far 7 and 9 seems like the best ones, but i am still not sure. will keep you updated.

Re: Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 10)
Shhh! You're totally contradicting my points 2 and 3 from yesterday! :-P

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 10)
Facebook is as private as you want it to be. People normally use the default settings, but it has a buttload of privacy settings, including "Status and Links" which you can set to:

• Everyone
• My Networks and Friends
• Friends of Friends
• Only Friends
• Customize… (to exclude specific people, or only include specific people)

Ha!

RE: P.S.
Ok, so ignoring all the possible innuendos in your post... :-P

This is the best I could come up with tonight, and I'm too tired to think of anything else:

You may feel aggression sometime,
And want to express it in rhyme,
But don't mess with Rachel --
B - I - T - C - H'll
Leave you only able to mime.

re: Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 9)
huh. I'll check out tweetdeck and see what it can do...

I'll sleep on it.

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 9)
9. We miss you and want you to be part of the conversation! Puh-leeeeze?

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 8)
8. You would probably spend the same amount of time you do now on social stuff, just redistributed based on where your peeps are spending their time. Looks like TweetDeck would let you follow Twitter & Facebook together, so that might help with the time issue *and* the web design issue. (I'm sure other tools will be doing the same if they aren't already.)

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 7 of 9)
#7 here seems to be your most sound argument to date.

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 7 of 9)
7. You will be assimilated eventually anyway. Resistance is futile.

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 6 in a series)
6. Yes, your boss might be on Facebook too, but there are privacy settings for that. (Or you can just say no, if Facebook is not directly related to your job.)

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 5 in a series)
5. There are photos. Lots of photos. You'll get to see photos other people took of your friends, because more people tag each other on Facebook photos than on Flickr photos.

RE: P.S.
Can you do it with Rachel? ("facial" does not count as rhyming)

P.S.
There once was a woman named Sue,
Who only conversed in haiku:
She felt so alive
With that five-seven-five
That no other format would do.

Re: early morning ponderings
Well done, my friend, well done. :-)

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 4 in a series)
4. Facebook is less public than Twitter, so your buddies will share more.

Re: early morning ponderings
The proof's in the post:
Curiosity answered,
My work here is done.

Reasons Noelle should not join Facebook
1. my blog is private and protected from the prying eyes of anyone that I do not want seeing it - facebook isn't.

2. An employee at one of my last companies had the last straw broken by something that he wrote on facebook and then got laid off. My boss at Playphone would habitually check the accounts of employees when they called in sick to see if the really were. I don't need that kind of crap in my life.

3. I don't want everyone in the world to be my facebook pal, but I also don;t want to tell the people no when they request (like a boss).

4. I already spend too much time on my blog and on twitter and on linked in. One more thing would be a pain in the ass.

5. Facebook looks like crap - it's a cluttered mess from what I can tell. The web snob in me really hates that. Don't ever even mention myspace near me. That shit is ghetto.

All that being said, I do get the advantages of it as well - it is a really useful tool if you don't want to keep some of your life private from work people. I also do feel very left out when you all are doing whatever you do on facebook, but I guess it was my choice. Trust me, if peer pressure was all it took, I already took care of it for ya.

I'll join if I have a compelling reason to - like I have to for work, or if someone can give me a solution to the time thing.

Re: early morning ponderings
Ah... She can limerick, but can she haiku?

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 3 in a series)
3. Unlike your blog, your friends will actually reply to the stuff you post, just because it's easier there.

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 2 in a series)
2. You can post the same kind of stuff you post to your blog, and more of your friends will actually see it (well, the ones who aren't using an RSS reader along with Facebook). Hell, you can just post a link to what you put on your blog, we don't mind. :)

Reasons Noelle should join Facebook (part 1 in a series)
1. You have friends who will not post on a blog or join Twitter, but they'll post status updates all the time on Facebook. (That's right, your friends are already microblogging, even if you refuse to admit it. :-P)

Re: Early morning ponderings
Well, you said to poet what we're upto, so here goes:

Hard at work 'cause you know I'm no quitter,
Drinking coffee 'til I start to jitter,
But reports that I run
Are never much fun
So I keep checking Facebook and Twitter.

Wedding Video
Not sure if I already posted this, but people who were not able to attend, or people who just wanna see me cry some more, can watch our wedding ceremony in our backyard here.

Thanks to our photographer and videographer, Carl, for kicking ass, as usual!

Happy Birthday Morgan!!
Though he will never see this....

Also, happy Star Wars Day

Early morning ponderings
Yeah. It's 2:30 am and I am wide awake. I am gonna have to force quit this app by making myself get up early tomorrow. For now, just checking in. Not much has been going on. Mostly hannging out, attempting to solidly enjoy my current fredom.

I have been chipping away at a bunch of big projects that are far from being complete, but I am seeing progress, which always makes me happy. One of those is compiling photos from my wedding day and the party for use in future projects. Another involves me re-mapping thousands of songs in iTunes and generally cleaning up my MP3 database. Also, my everlasting project of keeping my photos updated on Flickr, which I am way behind on, keeps popping into my head.

I am trying to keep up with the gardening as well as the general housework, but I think next week I am gonna have to hit those pretty hard as this place is in need of some serious spring cleaning. I'd love to go through another round of stuff-tossing and general cleaning-out of all the crap that i jusy don't need, so i think i am going yo try and keep a low profile this week and do that. Also, the garage beckons...

On top of that stuff, it's party season. Apparently, everyone we know's parents humped like rabbits in September because we have birthdays up the wazoo. Between that and just stuff people want to try while the weather is nice, there's little downtime right now.

Expect me to be more consistent with updates now. I'm resolving to be better do that I don't loose all of you, and please, feel free to poet what you have been upto as well!!
