Database Connections Suck
I got all of the forms working and sending out e-mails, and all of the databse stuff set up, but for some reason, the web pages and the database don't want to talk to eachother... Not sure what to do. I'll keep at it though...
Happy Leap Year everyone!
Surreal Morning
So I went over to the old place this morning and got the last load of stuff, vaccumed, and did a final check. I went out and had one last swing on my swing and said goodbye to my tree. Then I locked the door, put the keys in the designated location and drove away.
I was a little sad for a few minutes, but then I cranked up some Crystal Method and Jammed down the road a little lighter.

Today's report
I got up, went over to the old house, cleaned up the yard, and packed up my car. Went to Babies 'R' Us to get Laura a present and then over to her shower. It was actually a pretty cool party. It was at a yummy mexican place in Los Gatos called Pedro's Cabo Grill. For a baby shower, it was probably the least about the baby as possible.
I got home, took a nap and am now working on that database job I have. It seems pretty straight forward so I'll have to see if my scripts work or not. I am really only worried about getting the connection established - everything else should be cake. Anyway, that was my day. Hopefully this won't take forever...
What did I do????????
Oh no! I watched 8 sequential episodes of Sex and the City. I was coming out of my gossip induced coma when I looked at my clock!!! 2:00! Holy crap! I think tomorrow's gonna take a nap to get through...
If Cats and Dogs Could Blog
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Thanks to Chris and Carl who bailed my butt out and helped me clean my old place! You guys rock!
2 days till I hand over the keys. I'm actually glad to be freeing myself of the burden, odly enough. I feel lighter in a way.
Happy Friday
Hope that you all have a great weekend!!!
Whedon, Singer Pen X-Men
Filmmakers Joss Whedon and Bryan Singer are in final negotiations to write X-Men comics for Marvel Comics, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Confirming earlier reports, the trade paper said that Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Whedon will author Astonishing X-Men, with the first of 12 issues slated to hit stores in May, with John Cassaday on art. Whedon previously wrote the Dark Horse title Fray. [

Here's the raddest part about this: the timing. Laura is going on Maternity leave on the 12th. If I get hired anytime next week, I will give here one week notice and then take a week off. We could, potentially, leave at the exact same time. That would so SCREW them. They haven't even posted a listing for her job yet and she actually could leave as early as next week if her doc tells her it is necessary.
Mwuhahahahaha! The vengeful side of me loves this plan.

Charlize contemplating AEON FLUX
In three days she will know if she's won an Oscar for her role in MONSTER but today Charlize Theron is making news for her interest in starring in the live-action AEON FLUX movie. The film has been stuck in development hell for nearly a decade and is based on Peter Chung's MTV animated science fiction series which featured an aerobatic assassin trying to oust the despot of a futuristic nation. If Theron does agree to star in the movie she could earn a paycheck of $10 million.
The film will be directed by Karyn Kusama (GIRLFIGHT) and Gale Anne Hurd (HULK) is producing. If everything works out the Paramount Pictures project will start shooting come July.

Noelle, darlin, we've been over this before. You do not need a line to pick up a guy. Guys are straightforward. "I think you should come home with me for some hot monkey love." will work on 99% of the guys out there. Err, make that 89% of the guys out there. 10% probably don't care about women. :-)

Weekend of insanity
I have a nuts-o weekend ahead of me. I have Laura's Baby shower, I have to clean up the old house and turn that over, I have to build a website for my cousin and I have to learn SQL and implement a database structure into my contracting client's site. Oh, and I am having game night so if you are into it, show up.
Wish me luck on all of that.

Re: The cable guy
The interview went well. They seemd pleased with my knowledge and fit. I even got the 3 minute egg question right ("how long would you tell someone if they asked you to makea 3 minute egg?" - I said "like 25 minutes depending on how long water takes to boil and if they want juice." he laughed. Apparently no one had ever not said "3 minutes" before. I was like "Hi! Yeah, project manager here...").
Anyway, I do think there's a lot of people interviewing for the job and I they said that the HR dept should at least get back to me with a status by the middle of next week. In the mean time, I will continue to persue all of my options.
Our kids vs. Bush campaign contributors
Under energy industry pressure, President Bush’s EPA plans to defer controls on mercury emissions by power plants for at least a decade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 4.9 million women of childbearing age in the U.S. -- that's 8 percent -- have unsafe levels of mercury in their blood. The people hit hardest will be new-born infants -- every year over 630,000 infants are born with levels of mercury in their blood so high they can cause brain damage.
There are only a few weeks to get public comments to the EPA on this plan to defer mercury controls. It's time to
tell the EPA and the White House that our kids come first.
From a public health standpoint, the EPA's new policy is a disaster. But for Bush's energy industry allies, who are responsible for most mercury pollution, it's yet another bonanza. Increased pollution levels will allow these companies to save millions, while their top managers keep writing big campaign checks to support George W. Bush -- it's a pretty sick cycle.

The sequel to the vampires-versus-werwolves movie brings back Kate Beckinsale as Selene, the blood-sucking heroine who found herself in a loving relationship with a werewolf, the trade paper reported.
Scott Speedman, who played the werewolf, is also expected to return. Len Wiseman will be back as director. Danny McBride will have the script ready by early April, the trade paper reported.

DNC's Quote of the Week
Q So why not -- why aren't you standing behind [the prediction that America will add 2.6 million new jobs this year]?
WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY SCOTT McCLELLAN: I think what the President stands behind is the policies that he is implementing, the policies that he is advocating. That's what's important.
Q That's not in dispute. The number is the question.
MR. McCLELLAN: I know, but the President's concern is on the number of jobs being created --
Q My question is, why was the prediction made --
MR. McCLELLAN: -- and the President's focus is on making sure that people who are hurting because they cannot find work have a job. That's where the President's focus is.
Q Then why predict a number? Why was the number predicted? Why was the number predicted? You can't get away with not -- just answer the question. Why was that number predicted?
MR. McCLELLAN: I've been asked this, and I've asked -- I've been asked, and I've answered.
Q No, you have not answered. And everybody watching knows you haven't answered.

Owling
This made me giggle. This is what Neil did last night:
Last night I went out owling, with a number of people, led by Sharon Stiteler, official bird lady of Neilgaiman.com, just like in Jane Yolen's lovely children's book OWL MOON.
This is what happens when you go owling. You tromp through the deep snow in the darkness, until you're on the edge of the woods. Then you play a CD of owls hooting and wait for a few moments, silently marvelling at the beautiful starry night and the almost magical stillness, at which point drunk people on snowmobiles roar past incredibly noisily.
You wait in silence, holding your breath, until the sound of snowmobiles and the hoarse singing and yells of the snowmobilers has finally died away, and then, in the pregnant, perfect stillness, you play the CD of owls hooting again, and, after a few moments, as if by magic, from nowhere you hear the sound of another bunch of drunk people on snowmobiles coming toward you.
I don't think anyone's done a proper scientific study on the way that recorded owl-calls can summon snowmobilers, but I think it's pretty much magical.

Handstands and Growing Up
For some strange reason, I decided that I wanted to do a handstand. I looked around and found that I should probably do it against a wall to avoid serious injury, as I haven't actually done one in a while. I got up to my door, put my hands above my head, threw myself forward, and promptly slammed my head against the very sound structure of the door.
I forgot that I had grown significantly in the past 15 years and my calculations for arm length, etc. were severly off...
So, I got up, recalculated and did a proper hand stand for what seemed like 5 minutes before all the blood rushed to my head and I started getting strange visual patterns (this is *free*for all of you who are interested).
I have to say, I highly recommend a hand stand every once in a while, it really puts things in perspective. On the other hand, I do enjoy being upside down more than most. I think I might make this a regular thing.
I think I'm gonna like it here...
You know, I was laying on my couch the other morning, watching Star Trek, after not pounding down loud and creaky stairs, on a freezing cold wood floor, collecting strange grub on my feet, into and icebox called downstairs after being in the sauna of upstairs all night, and I looked around and thought, "I think I'm gonna like it here after all."

You are e Of all the irrational numbers, you are the most intense. By nature you are powerful, although sometimes you can spiral out of control. You are good with money; the interest seems to just compound whenever you are near. When someone uses the word "exponential" they are probably talking about you. However, you and e have been called "remarkable." Your lucky number is approximately 3.14159265 |

I have a Hallucinogen album that I can let you borrow sometime, Noelle. I think it's twisted. I have to agree that it's not as good as Juno Reactor or Infected Mushroom, though.
Re: Dark Tower
I fell in love with the series long ago.
Noelle - I'll loan you my copy of the first Dark Tower book to read, it's "special". Not to sound snooty but I recommend starting with it over other editions, you'll understand when you get it.
Carl - Just wait till you finish :) If Book 1 is point A and The Dark Tower is point B book 2 takes the least amount of steps to point B but instead makes one sweet jump towards it.
For those who have no problem digessting books and are really interested in this series here's a list of all the books and things that tie in to The Dark Tower series....
Ties in Inderictly (May only have a line or two about something or a mention of something that ties in with The Dark Tower)
The Talisman
The Shinning
The Mist - Short Story from Skeleton Crew.
It - this actualy ties in directly, but it's not as important a tie in as the other books. Very cool though, and my fave, non Dark Tower King book.
Ties In Directly: (It's plot or characters have a direct link [or beam ;) ] with The Dark Tower)
The Stand - I know it's a mamoth book but there's a huge pay off to reading this before finishing Book III: The Wastelands. It's one of King's best books to boot. Blasphemos in nature: You could CliffNote it by watch the mini-series on DVD as it's nearly a scene-for-scene re-telling. I'd only recommend that if you have absolutly no intention or have already read the book however.
Salem's Lot
Insomnia
The Talisman II: Blackhouse
Movie: The Majestic - The movie theater "The Majestic" is the very one mentioned in the series. The director is a huge Dark Tower fan. You get to see Roland on screen [in a wierd way :) ] near the end I hear, still need to see it.
Everything's Eventual - short story from book of the same name
Little Sisters of Elurie - Short story from the same book. It's a prequal involving Roland.
Low Men in Yellow Coats - Short story from Hearts in Atlantis
The Eyes of the Dragon - Easiest of all the books to read. Great little fairy tale.
Tie in's that I haven't read yet so don't know how they tie in...
Rose Madder
Desperation
The Regulators - This and Desperation, a book I started but never finished, tie in directly together as well.
Bag of Bones
From a Buick 8
None of these are vital to enjoying the Dark Tower series obviously, but they do build on the story significantly or introduce key elements at times. If you really get into the series you may one day want to check out these other books to get "The Director's Cut", or if you can read at the blinding speed of Wend.....er a super-hero read them now...

Re: Dark Tower
Wow. That brings back some memories. I was a huge Stephen King fan. I read the first few Dark Tower books back in high school. Named one of my fish (the biggest and coolest) Roland. Then I got sad when I realized how long I'd have to wait for the rest. Think I'll wait until they're all out and then re-read them! :)

That's very interesting... A black hole on a diet.
Re: Dark Tower, book one
I'm on book two. It's not as good as the first one (which I liked a lot). It gets a bit boring at times. I'll have to try to finish it up soon though cause I know Noelle is gonna wanna borrow it. :P

Mission Status
For those of you who are interested in a status update, I am doing pretty good with my "fix Noelle's life"mission. I have accomplished Mission number 1 and 2 from my
aforementioned agenda, and working hard at #3.
I am moved, with only a week or so left on the old place and cleaning this weekend. I am 1/2 way unpacked at the new place, so life there should be back to normal in a few weeks as well.
My resume is good and getting responses, and I am sending it out at the rate of 5-15 a day. I get a couple of leads daily, and am perusing a few aggressively. I get a lot of contract offers, and need to decide if I have the stamina for contract work.
Between eBay, my check from my car accident, my tax return, and the return of my deposit on my old place, I think that I got a big chunk of my debt paid off. It's probably only like 1/10 of it, but every little bit helps. In moving, I have found some other things I think that I can part with so eBay should be back up and running shortly. Unless I have to take a huge pay cut or my rent increases dramatically, I think I have a good 4 year plan to be completely debt free as well.
Anyway, that's the status update, as much for me to take stock as to inform you all. A lot of progress has been made in the last 2 months and hopefully in the next few, I can find a new place to work that will be happy and healthy.
Thanks for all the love and support, you guys help a lot!
Re: Dark Tower, book one
I liked it. Some folks probably find King to be a bit verbose, but I savored his narrative style. (It was the first King book I'd read.)
I
read Book One over the holidays and Book Two shortly thereafter. I'm on Book Three,
The Wastelands, right now, after a couple-week interlude.
Review: Neverwhere
I finished Neverwhere last night. It was really good! He left it wide open for a series, but said that he didn't have plans at the moment to write one. It's really easy reading, but something that pretty much anyone could get into. Highly recommended!
I think I'm gonna try the Dark Tower Book one next....

The galaxy is officially known as M64, but astronomers have nicknamed it the 'Black Eye' or 'Evil Eye' galaxy.

Lyrics: Evanescence - Going Under
Now I will tell you what I've done for you
50 thousand tears I've cried
Screaming deceving and bleeding for you
And you still won't hear me
Don't want your hand this time I'll save myself
Maybe I'll wake up for once
Not tormented daily defeated by you
Just when I thought I'd reach the bottom
I'm dying again
I'm going under
Drowning in you
I'm falling forever
I've got to break through
I'm going under
Blurring and stirring the truth and the lies
So I don't know what's real and what's not
Always confusing the thoughts in my head
So I can't trust myself anymore
I'm dying again
I'm going under
Drowning in you
I'm falling forever
I've got to break through
So go on and scream
Scream at me I'm so far away
I won't be broken again
I've got to breathe I can't keep going under

What Neil has to say about Macs - the last 2 paragraphs are beautiful
I actually own two iMacs -- one of the old, TV screen ones, and a new, desklamp one. They're mostly Lorraine's and Maddy's, but I'll happily use them too. Then there's the iPod, of course, which I love. iTunes runs the house music, on all the computers, unless I need to sort out ID3 tagging glitches, in which case Windows Media (and even, on occasion Musicmatch) will get pulled out and dusted off.
I tend to keep my own computers on a PC standard for the same reason I still use WordPerfect as a word processing program: I have thousands of files in Word Perfect 4.0 and 4.2 and suchlike ancient formats, and I never know when I'll need to dig out something I wrote in 1987 and be able to read it and possibly even work with it.
I'm not terribly religious, in the computer operating system sense of the word. Many people (including my son, a full-fledged Apple person) seemed to be waiting for me to see the light and become a full-fledged Mac convert, and were shocked that once there were Macs in the house I didn't have a Road to Damascus moment. I like them for some things, prefer PCs for other things, and, except for writing screenplays, prefer fountain pens to both of them (and for screenplays I like Final Draft, and I don't mind which platform it's on).
When I tell Mac people this, they smile their secret smile. They know that after we die, we go to a special place, and that those who used Macs will be raised on high, where they can sip their cappucinos and look down and see the virus-infected writhings and screamings of those who used PCs, as the damned Windows users are forever bombarded with boiling projectile vomit from the thousand-foot high screaming thing that used to be Bill Gates.
But I'm sure even the damned people down in the mud will be laughing up whatever's left of their sleeves at those of us who secretly like fountain pens best.

They cut closed captioning funding for most TV because a five-member panel had decided that deaf and hard-of-hearing people needed to be shielded from witchcraft on TV (like, well Bewitched, or I Dream of Jeannie. Or Scooby-Doo).
"They've suddenly narrowed down the definition of those three kinds of programming without public input," says Kelby Brick, director of the NAD's law and advocacy center. "Basically, the department wants to limit captioning to puritan shows. The department wants to ensure that deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals are not exposed to any non-puritan programming. Never mind that the rest of the country is allowed to be exposed."

Oh sweet internet, how I have missed you!
Holy crap.
I just got internet again.
Here's my comcast story (short and sweet version):
So like 2 weeks ago, I called up and asked to transfer my service over to the new apartment. The dude on the phone said that they did not service this apartment. I looked on my paper that had utilities on it and sure enough, it said At&t. Lame.
I called At&t, they said they don't do cable. I said ok, called Esther, who also lives here in this complex. She said that she did, in fact, go through Comcast. I called Comcast and said "hey, my friend has cable through you in the same complex." They put in a "servicablity request" and said they would call me back within 48 hours. Yeah, right.
Like 5 days later, I call back and tell them the story, the guy at the tech desk looks it up and says that yes, they do, in fact service that complex and he has no idea why the other people are stupid. OK, so I now have an appointment for Saturday from 4-6.
Saturday morning rolls around and I get a phone call at 8:30 in the morning telling me that the cable people are on their way to my apartment. I said no, they didn't because my slot was from 4-6 p.m.. They guy on the phone tells me no, that my appointment, in the system was for 7-9 a.m.. He says that he can schedule a "come back" and the tech will do the job at the end of his day and that they will call me when he is on his way. Ok, whatever. So I wait.
6:00 rolls around and I call to see what's up. The guy on the phone says, after an HOUR of me waiting on hold while he gets dispatch on the line, that they thought I was going to call them back. I started yelling. The guy books me an appointment for 12-4 on Sunday. Whatever.
So Coalee and I go down to my car to get some stuff out of it and we see a Comcast truck in the parking lot. I go back upstairs and it is a tech. I was like "hey, I just made an appointment for Sunday, but please, come in and hook me up." He comes in and hooks up my cable, but doesn't have any cable modems, so he says that my appointment for Sunday will stand. Whatever.
Sunday, I wait around from 12-4 for said cable guy. I call up at 4 and they tell me that "my request had already been filled" and that they "didn't see any internet on my account." I said "I don't want to talk to you, or your supervisor right now, I want to talk to his supervisor." That guy gets on the phone, I yell and he sets me up with yet ANOTHER 12-4 appointment for today (Monday). Finally, ay 5:30, that guy shows up and I now have internet.
Sigh.
Comcast sucks ass.

And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd
understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't
coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd
understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me

State of the Union Address - Director’s Cut
Lyrics: Kenny Rogers - Just Dropped In
(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in)
I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in
I found my mind in a brown paper bag within
I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high
I tore my mind on a jagged sky
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in)
I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in
I watched myself crawlin' out as I was a-crawlin' in
I got up so tight I couldn't unwind
I saw so much I broke my mind
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in)
Someone painted "April Fool" in big black letters on a "Dead End" sign
I had my foot on the gas as I left the road and blew out my mind
Eight miles outta Memphis and I got no spare
Eight miles straight up downtown somewhere
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
I said I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
Yeah yeah oh-yeah
Noelle's Friday Five
1. Are you superstitious?
hmmmmmm. I don't know. I believe that I have INSTANT Karma. I do some things, like knock on wood, just in case... so, no, but I do cover my basis I think.
2. What extremes have you heard of someone going to in the name of superstition?
Skinning black cats on Halloween. Pisses me and my babe off.
3. Believer or not, what's your favorite superstition?
That my workplace is in the middle of a geographical pentagram of evil energy.
I am serious. I have seen an unbelievable amount of accidents, car fires, people getting hit by cars, etc., right outside my office window. I have called 911 3 times in my life and they all have been from here.
And then there's George.
4. Do you believe in luck? If yes, do you have a lucky number/article of clothing/ritual?
Sure. I think that some people are in the right place at the right time...
I don't have lucky stuff. I think I am pretty lucky when all things are weighed though.
5. Do you believe in astrology? Why or why not?
I don't think so. I think I would if I could ever meet someone who could predict something using those methods that wasn't so damn vague. I am open to the idea, but the science part of my brain rejects it entirely.

2) I got here at 9:05 and everyine but G was here and working (unusual for a Friday)
3) G got in soon after and asked to speak to Sandra (the accountant) behind closed doors - this is typical "someone is going to get fired" behavior.
4) G and B were ina closed door meeting from 4:30 until well after 6:30 yesterday, despite that fact that G kept saying that he needed to leave by 5:30
5) G hasn't spoken to me all week, except once to yell at me for something I didn't do
6) Chris and G have been at odds for a few days and C has been in a bad mood at G

Lyrics: Dynamite Hack - Boyz In The Hood (props to Eazy-E for the original)
woke up quick
at about noon
just thought
that i had to be
in compton soon.
I gotta get drunk
before the day begins
before my mother starts
bitchin' about my friends
about to go and
damn near went blind.
young niggas on the path
throwin' up gang signs
I went in the house
to get the clip
with my mac10
on the side of my hip
I bailed outside
and I pointed my weapon
just as I thought the
fools kept steppin'
jumped in the fo'
hit the juice on my ride
I got front and back.
side to side
Then I let the alpine play
I was pumping new shit by NWA
It was gansta gansta
at the top of the list.
then I played my own shit
it went something like this
Cruisin' down the street
in my 6-4
Jockin' the bitches
slappin' the hos
I went to the park
to get the scoop
knuckleheads out there
cold shooting some hoop
a car pulls up
who can it be
a fresh el camino
rolling kilo-g
he rolls down the window
and starts to say
its all about making that gta
Cause the boyz in the hood
are always hard.
come talkn' that trash
and we'll pull your card
knowin' nuthing in life
but to be legit
don't quote me boy
I ain't said shit
Bored as hell
and I wanna get ill
so I go to a place
where my homeboys chill
fellas out there
trying to make that dolla'
I pulled up in a 6-4 impala
greeted with a forty
and I start drinkin'
and from the eight ball
my breath starts stinkin'
gotta get my girl
to rock that body
before I left I hit the bicardi
Pulled to the house
get her out of the pad and
the bitch said something
to make me mad
she said something
that I couldn't believe
so I grabbed the stupid
bitch by her nappy ass weave
started talkin' shit
wouldn't you know
I reached back like a pimp
and I slapped the ho
and her father stood up
and started to shout.
so I threw a right cross and
and knocked his old ass out
Cause the boyz in the hood
are always hard.
come talkn' that trash
and we'll pull your card

Trapped far beyond my fate

Been cheated of my youth
You turned this lie to truth
Anger
Misery
You'll suffer unto me

Led by UCLA scientist Vladimir Keilis-Borok, the team has been predicting quakes within certain timeframes and geographic regions. That has led to criticism that their work is not precise enough to be useful, but others see it as significant progress in the science.
The team gained visibility last December, when a 6.5-magnitude quake hit near San Simeon, Calif. That's within the 310-mile stretch of California that the team last June predicted would see a quake of magnitude 6.4 or larger within nine months.
The Times reported Sunday that the team's predictions are based on perceived "chains" of small earthquakes that are comparable to past patterns preceding larger quakes in the same area.

LOTR: Return of the King (DVD):

Lyrics: The Flaming Lips - Do you realize?
Do you realize
That you have the most beautiful face?
Do you realize
We're floating in space?
Do you realize
That happiness makes you cry?
Do you realize
That everyone you know someday will die?
And instead of saying all of your good-byes
Let them know you realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Do you realize?
Do you realize
That everyone you know someday will die?
And instead of saying all of your good-byes
Let them know you realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Do you realize
That you have the most beautiful face?
Do you realize?

BUFFY IS A WONDER WOMAN
Two stars of recently finished US series Buffy the Vampire Slayer are competing to become the new Wonder Woman.
Former Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar is top of the list to take the lead role in the remake of the 1970s cult classic, according to the Daily Star.
However Charisma Carpenter, who stars in Buffy spin-off Angel, could also land the role.
"Charisma is a strong contender and she's equally as sexy," a movie insider said.
Meanwhile, another former Buffy star is about to make her mark on the London stage.
Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow, stars in When Harry Met Sally, which starts in the West End next week.
She will star alongside Luke Perry, who found fame in Beverly Hills 90210, in the stage version of the hit film.

Re: "I be off with me maties to party like a crow on whiskey!"
Lyrics: Sting - I Burn For You
Now that I have found you
In the coolth of your evening smile
The shade of your parasol
And your love flows through me
Though I drink at your pool
I burn for you, I burn for
You and I are lovers
When night time folds around our bed
In peace we sleep entwined
And your love flows through me
Though an ocean soothes my head
I burn for you, I burn for
Stars will fall from dark skies
As ancient rocks are turning
Quiet fills the room
And your love flows through me
Though I lie here so still
I burn for you, I burn for you
I burn...
AHOY!
I be off with me maties to party like a crow on whiskey!
And Much Packing Ensued
Wow... I have a lot of my house packed up already. The kitchen is an entity unto itself so that will probably involve shuttle missions after the move, but I have most of the major furniture cleaned out and ready to go.

Re: Update on Neuromancer
I know what you mean. I only recently saw
Animal House for the first time, and since I've seen all the derivatives and homages and parodies and rip-offs, it lacked the impact for me that it had for a generation of film-goers.
Re: Update on Neuromancer
ah. Then it is my timing and experience that makes it seems kind of tired...
Almost done with it - it's a good book, don't get me wrong, it just doesn' seem to strike me the way other books do.
Re: Update on Neuromancer
Wondering why this is considered a "sci-fi classic"...
'Cause it was one of the
first cyberpunk books, the one that really got the movement going in readers' minds.
Well, those that hadn't ever read the works of Phillip K. Dick, anyway.
The best headline I have seen in a long time
Sale of the emergency contraception sky rocks
Neil asks: How, I wonder, did they discover that these sky rocks had contraceptive properties? And why are they on sale?
The
article is much less interesting than the headline would make it seem.
BTW, another phone screen today
Getting passed up the chain another level and we'll see. It's a contract job though so I have to decide if that's ok.
OK, now I really am going to go pack. :-)
One More... Coachella
So the line up for
Coachella is up as it stands now. It's good, but I don't know if it is worth the drive, the hotels, etc. Especialy since the band I would most want to go see is the CRystal Method and I already have tickets to that.
Although, it would be really cool to see the Cure.
I am sure, in the long run, I will end up going... We'll see.
Packing, and the art of
So I have, in the past, found packing up your house and moving not nearly as bad as evertone makes it out to be. I have one week left in my palace, before I move to the hole, and I am just now contemplating putting stuff in boxes.
I think this comes from the fact that this is, yes, believe this, the
20th time I have moved in my memory of being able to participate.
My mom was insane. We moved all the damn time when I was little.
Well, procrastination aside, I am gonna go pack a little before I go to sleep.
Update on Neuromancer
Yeah, 160 pages in (it's 260 pages), and not all that impressed. I mean,
it's good, but it's not the "mindbender" it says it is on the cover and not nearly worth all the praise that I have heard about it.
I don't know, maybe I am a jaded member of the X gen that has seen too much farscape and the Matrix and Bab 5 to be really impressed by these concepts. Maybe if it was 1990 adn I had never seen the Lawnmower Man or something...
Wondering why this is considered a "sci-fi classic"...

And They Say Our Society Is Too Litigious
HFS, a woman is suing over Janet Jackson's boobies appearing on TV. WTF is the matter with this country. Millions of people out of work. Country's in deep debt. Boys and girls coming home in body bags daily. Lots of people pissed off at the US for good and bad reasons alike and the most pressing matter of our time is boobies on TV? Again, I say (write) WTF???

Janet Jackson's Breast Exposure Triggers Suit
Fri February 6, 2004 03:37 PM ET
CHICAGO (Reuters) - A Tennessee woman has sued Janet Jackson and others involved in her breast-baring Super Bowl halftime show, saying millions of people are owed monetary damages for exposure to lewd conduct, court records showed on Friday.
The suit, filed earlier this week in federal court in Knoxville, Tennessee, also names pop star Justin Timberlake, who performed with Jackson, CBS Broadcasting Inc., show producer MTV Networks Enterprises Inc., and the parent of those two companies, Viacom Inc. .
CBS and Viacom said they had no comment on the filing.
The action seeks a court order to prevent anything like last Sunday's stunt from being repeated on U.S. network television prior to 10 p.m. local time when children might be watching.
It also asks the court to declare the matter a class action for purposes of damages. No dollar figure is mentioned in the suit, but it estimates that over 80 million U.S. viewers might be due compensation. CBS has said the game drew an average viewership of just under 89.6 million people. Advertising during the game sold for more than $2 million a spot.
The suit states that the ultimate compensatory damage figure, should a jury decide to grant damages, should be no higher than what the parties being sued made out of participating in and airing the Super Bowl and its halftime show.
If additional punitive damages are granted, it adds, they should be no higher than the "gross annual revenues of each defendant for the last three years..."
Those figures would probably run into the billions of dollars, according to the Smoking Gun, a Web site that first published the court papers.
During the halftime show Timberlake tore off half of Jackson's black leather bustier, exposing her right breast, while the two were singing a duet.
Jackson took the blame but said "it was not my intention that it go as far as it did."
CBS has already said it would use an "enhanced delay" on its Feb. 8 broadcast of music's Grammy Awards so it can censor both audio and video as needed, and ABC also said it will use a delay on its Feb. 29 broadcast of the Academy Awards.
The suit says the defendants knew the broadcast would be watched by millions of families with children but they "included in the halftime show sexually explicit acts solely designed to garner publicity and ultimately to increase profits for themselves. The suit mentions the breast exposure but also says the show in general contained "other lewd and sexually explicit conduct."
The law firm handling the suit issued a statement on Friday saying that neither the woman who filed it, Terri Carlin, nor her attorney, Wayne Ritchie, would comment. "The issue here is accountability and not more publicity," it said.

ZERO. Big fucking surprise. I have to agree with Kevin, though, the results are a little strange when compared to each other...
1 Kucinich Score: 100%

4 Dean Score: 83%
5 Clark Score: 81%

Here's what it said in response to my choices:
1 Kucinich Score: 100%

3 Clark Score: 88%
4 Kerry Score: 87%
5 Dean Score: 81%
6 Edwards Score: 76%
7 Bush Score: 34%
Kind of strange that three of us with different results in positions 2 through 7 would all get Kucinich at 100 percent.
