I have been sick since Friday with a horrid cold of some sort. I felt somewhat better yesterday and then relapsed into a worse than ever state today.

This sucks balls.

And now I have to go work since I was so distracted on Friday by head pressure and vacationing thoughts that I didn't get much done. *sniffles up some very stuffed up snot* Lame.

TrekMovie.com reported that former Stargate Atlantis regular Paul McGillion has auditioned for the role of Scotty in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek movie.

The Scottish-born Canadian actor is best known to SF fans as Dr. Carson Beckett on Atlantis; the character appeared to die in season three, but will return for a few episodes in the upcoming fourth season.

Chris Doohan, son of the late James Doohan, who first played Scotty, has endorsed McGillion for the role, the site reported.

Star Trek, a rebooting of the franchise, is currently in preproduction. [via]

NBC has tapped filmmaker Doug Liman to produce a Transformers-inspired reworking of the 1980s hit action-drama Knight Rider, Variety reported.

The network is readying a two-hour backdoor pilot for the series, with tentative plans to air it as a TV movie later this season. Liman is open to the idea of directing, assuming his feature schedule allows. If the TV movie clicks, a new-model Knight Rider could be on the air as early as next fall, the trade paper reported. Also, on Amazon's my homepage I noticed the "get yourself a little something, which is like iTunes cover view but with products from your wishlist in case you want to buy some of them. Spins and everything.

Three Little Words That Work !!

(1)The three little words are:"Hold On, Please..."
Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt.

Then when you eventually hear the phone company's "beep-beep-beep" tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, whic h has efficiently completed its task.

These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting.


(2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?
This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone.

This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home.

What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!!

(3) Junk Mail Help:
When you get "ads" enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these "ads" with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away.

When you get those "pre-approved" letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope.

Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 41 cents postage "IF" and when they receive them back. It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was 39 cents before the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes.

Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them.

You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 41 cents.

The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they're paying for it...Twice!

Let's help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that's why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea!

This weekend was very strange indeed.

It started out Friday with a very... unpleasant day at work (there may or may not be a small diatribe on that later), followed by Chris, Wendy, Esther, and I all going to see Underworld/Paul Oakenfold at the Warfield. Oakenfold was alrighty, but not spectacular, as usual, and Underworld was wicked awesome! I wish I hadn't had such a rough day so I could have enjoyed that even more, but a few shots of tequila made me plenty loosened up enough to shake my money maker for a couple of hours.

Saturday we were supposed to go to Tahoe to meet up with my dad, but after not hearing from/being able to get a hold of him for the entire week, I called it at about 9am and went back to bed. No Tahoe for us. At about 2 in the afternoon I woke up again and CP and i proceeded to go to Black Cat (my not-so-local comic shop of choice) and then Zao noodle bar in Palo Alto. We decided to swing by Lee's comics on the way home, which was cool because I haven't been there in years. The day was ended with a trip to Winchester 22 to see Shoot 'em Up, which was the most Tarantino-esque movie that I could imagine. It was amazingly well done, and very entertaining. I recommend it for anyone who doesn't have an issue with seeing a carrot impale someone through the eye.

Today we concluded the grand tour of Bay area comic shops by swinging by Heroes and Hijinx to see what was on tap there. We also managed to hit a couple of normal bookstores this weekend, and I got some yard work done.

Still, I feel like I need 190 more days of weekend. I think I need to ponder my life-course for a while and see what I can come up with. I think I am having my 1/3 life crisis or something because I don't seem to be able to match up what I spend 85% of my waking hours doing with what I *want* to spend 85% of my waking hours doing. *sigh* I'll update more on that as it comes to me. All I got right now is that something is not right and it needs to get fixed...

Here's hoping that next week will be easier than the last.
