Bizarre tale of boy who used internet to plot his own murder
The final internet chatroom exchange took place on 28 June last year. "U want me 2 take him 2 trafford centre and kill him in the middle of trafford centre??" said one message. "Yes," came the reply.
Less than 24 hours later, a 14-year-old boy was critically ill in hospital with stab wounds in the chest and stomach. At first it seemed as though a brutal, but straightforward, robbery had gone wrong. But yesterday the young "victim" became the first person in this country to be convicted of inciting their own murder. [

Brief Weekend Update
Friday night I picked up my long-awaited camera and then we went to see The Day After Tomorrow. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be :-). Pretty ok for a diaster movie and great special effects. We went to Outback after and had some drinks. Fun.
Yesterday was secret fun day for Wendy so I picked her up, took her to Zao for lunch and then we went to the Dali exhibit in San Fransisco. It was very cool, with a lot of stuff you normally don't get to see, but we were saddened by the fact that everythinghad price tags on it so they were breaking up the collection. Then we went to the Stinking Rose for dinner, which was super Yummy as usual, but I smell now, which is grossing me out.
Got home, sat down to check e-mail and got a call from Carl, Morgam and crew so I decided to go to outback withthem and have some more drinks while they ate. We went back to their house and watched some sequil to a Japanese movie none of us had ever seen about kids on an island chosen to fight to the death on TV. Yeah, fell asleep 1/2 way through that one.
Today, I a going over to Nancy's to watch the first 1/3 of Firefly with her and Steph and then to the Memorial Day BBQ at 17A, which should be fun/interesting. I'll have pictures up by tomorrow...

Digital Camera Nightmare
*sigh*
Ok, here's my horrible story (Hopefully made short).
I dealt with evil bitch client from hell in order that I may get a Canon A80 camera without putting undue strain on credit cards.
I did the job, got the money, the check cleared, and I ordered my toy online to get a good deal. BAD IDEA. So I order it with 2-3 day shipping so tat I may have the instant gratification of playing with said toy this weekend. They call to confirm.
Thursday rolls around and I do not have the toy. I call up to see what the status is and they are out of the office Tue-Thurs of this week. I call today, and they tell me it will be here Tuesday (LAME). I say fine.
*Note: each time I call, I am greeted with "hold on!" click. No "hello, please hold." Not even a "hi, hang on a sec." And then some asshole who comes back like 15 minutes later (after I listen to some R&B station in New York) and is totally rude.
Ok, so today I call up, they say that it will be here Tuesday. Then, like 4 hours later, I get an e-mail saying that my transaction is on hold because my check card wants proof that it's me and I should fax in info. I fax in info. I call to confirm, only to find out that they are only open on Friday from 10-2 EST and that they would be closed until Tuesday. Any attempts at e-mail are bounced.
I call up their sales line, trying to fins some help and am met with a 15 minute wait again and some asshole who is a jerk. I finally cancelled my order in order that I may venture to Best Buy and pay $50 more to get my toy immediately and not deal with and dicks in the process.
All I want is my camera. Is that too much to ask? *sigh*
At least it is over now, I can get my toy after work and have a lovely weekend of annoying everyone with "smile!".
Note to self: Just go pay the extra money and buy it at a store, you'll be happier in the long run.

BERLIN (Reuters) - Don't trust a man with a fast car.

Among German men, Porsche drivers were the least faithful, with 49 percent admitting infidelity, followed by BMW drivers at 46 percent. Among women, Audi drivers were the least reliable, 41 percent admitting to affairs.
The most faithful group were owners of Opel-Vauxhall cars, with only 31 percent of male and 28 percent of female drivers in Germany having committed adultery.
The survey was carried out by Hamburg-based opinion poll institute Gewis, which questioned 2,253 male and female drivers aged 20 to 50. The results follow similar findings from the same magazine showing that male BMW drivers had the most sex.

Very huge sighs of relief
I got the check from that side job, after much hassle and lame attempts on their part to force me into indentured servitude, and handed over their stuff so that's all behind me.
Tomorrow, I will get the offer letter via fax from Stanford and can *FINALLY* tell George to screw off. I'm not even going to tell him why. If he doesn't know already then it's useless. (Wow. That's really cliche - but this time it's really true) I don't see a reason to make things aweful there ad he's not going to learn and Bill is going to, well, be Bill about it so screw 'em. I'm just going to say that I'm done and hand the letter over.
In 2 weeks I will move myself into an office, with a door, and walls and windows and make my little nest at Stanford. That will be cool - I am seeing A Perfect Circle the night before and hosting a group of ragingly drunk girls at my cousin's bachelorette part the Saturday before that. What a way to start the new life cycle.
I almost fel like crying because I am so relieved....

Re: Rumsfeld bans camera phones

Rumsfeld bans camera phones
MOBILE phones fitted with digital cameras have been banned in US army installations in Iraq on orders from Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, The Business newspaper reported today.
Quoting a Pentagon source, the paper said the US Defence Department believes that some of the damning photos of US soldiers abusing Iraqis at Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad were taken with camera phones.
"Digital cameras, camcorders and cellphones with cameras have been prohibited in military compounds in Iraq," it said, adding that a "total ban throughout the US military" is in the works.
Disturbing new photos of Iraqi prisoner abuse, which the US government had reportedly tried to keep hidden, were published on Friday in the Washington Post newspaper.
The photos emerged along with details of testimony from inmates at Abu Ghraib who said they were sexually molested by female soldiers, beaten, sodomised and forced to eat food from toilets.
Hm, we don't want anything like this getting out again so lets just ban the evidence....

Childless couple told to try sex
A German couple who went to a fertility clinic after eight years of marriage have found out why they are still childless - they weren't having sex.
The University Clinic of Lubek said they had never heard of a case like it after examining the couple who went to see them last month for fertility tests.
Doctors subjected them to a series of examinations and found they were both apparently fertile, and should have had no trouble conceiving.
A clinic spokesman said: "When we asked them how often they had had sex, they looked blank, and said: "What do you mean?".
"We are not talking retarded people here, but a couple who were brought up in a religious environment who were simply unaware, after eight years of marriage, of the physical requirements necessary to procreate."
The 30-year-old wife and her 36-year-old husband are now being given sex therapy lessons while the university clinic undertakes a study to try to find out if there are more couples with a similar lack of sex education.

some guy posted a link to :
According to a new poll, only 15 per cent of us would vote for the President
And then said:
"And Americans should care, why?
Don't you hate a nosey neighbor, who won't move? Moose-humpers."
Which made me laugh and think of my wacky Canadian friends, who are way smarter than us silly Americans in most ways that I can think of...
People like this make me want to move to Canada. (as Dave wistles and sys "nope, nothing to do or see in Canada, you don't wanna go there" suspiciously)
Fun with RSS
I am being VERY bad right now and playing with my blog instead of doing many other things that are supposed to make me money this week (go a contract gig, but it's a rush job). Anyway, found the golden chalice of RSS that makes the whole thing go, aggregates if you want it to, RSSes your blog for you, the works. It even makes sense (huh, go figure). Anyway,
feedster rules, just so you know.
I feel better now that I don't have to sit for hours at work and stare at that little "(no RSS)" on Jon's blog that drives me mad and makes me feel inadequate.
Now you are wondering if I am kidding or really am that neurotic....

In Most Jobs, People Get Fired For Excess Absenteeism
"This is Bush's 33rd visit to his ranch since becoming president. He has spent all or part of 233 days on his Texas ranch since taking office, according to a tally by CBS News. Adding his 78 visits to Camp David and his five visits to Kennebunkport, Maine, Bush has spent all or part of 500 days in office at one of his three retreats, or more than 40 percent of his presidency." [

So, I thought about this for a while and decided that he should take more days off. I don't mind paying for it at this point. I mean, think about it, he has only worked 60% of his term and look how much damage he has done. Imagine what a couple hundred more days would do.

Tarantino Sets Eye On 007
Director Quentin Tarantino told the Reuters news service at the Cannes Film Festival that he wants to tackle a James Bond movie. Once Tarantino finishes worldwide promotion for his Kill Bill Volume 2, he plans to approach the producers of the big-budget Bond series, the wire service reported.
"I've always wanted to do it," Tarantino reportedly said. "I bumped into Pierce Brosnan, and we talked about it. He liked the idea." Tarantino is a lifelong fan of the British spy saga, now starring the Irish actor Brosnan. "I would like to do the original book Casino Royale and do it more or less the way the Ian Fleming book is," Tarantino told Reuters in an interview in Cannes, where he is president of this year's film festival jury. Casino Royale was made in 1967 as an ill-fated spoof starring David Niven as an aging 007. "I don't know if they're going to go for it or not, but I'm letting them know I'm interested," he said.
YAY!!!!!!!!! Elfman Tunes Up For Charlie
Film composer Danny Elfman told SCI FI Wire that, while he's finishing the score for Spider-Man 2, he's doing preliminary work on Tim Burton's upcoming fantasy film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. "As soon as I'm done with Spider-Man 2, I jump right into both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and another animated Tim Burton film called The Corpse Bride," Elfman said in an interview.
Elfman, who previously composed the music for such Burton films as Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow and Big Fish, sounded particularly excited about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. "It just looks like it's going to be tons of fun," he said. "The first attempt at writing a first idea for a song [was] so whacked out. I just sat there writing this crazy thing in the middle of the night and put 20 voices on it myself as a demo. I sent it out there, and Tim liked it."
Elfman added, "[The film] is going to be really great. It seems like really fertile ground. The script is good. I like Johnny Depp a lot. So I think doing an adaptation from the book could be great. I know it's always dangerous doing a remake of something that's much loved. I've been down this road before. I just hope it gets a shot at being its own thing." Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, based on the Roald Dahl children's book, is in preproduction now with an eye toward a July 2005 release.

It's called Sexy Beach 2 and it's some Japanese thing where the object is to turn the virtual girl on with your mouse or whatever. If you have any opinions, I'd love to hear them. It's just a redundant resume in different formats and some clients listed with screen grabs. It's a lot of blah blah blah but it answers most questions that people ask me in an interview, so hopefully this will deter them from doing that in the future. I wrote everything all in one shot, so I am sure it needs to be edited a bit for coherency and what not, but so far, I like it.

Directors find THE BOOKS OF MAGIC
There's new word on THE BOOKS OF MAGIC, the DC Comics/Vertigo comic book series in development as a feature film for Warner Bros. Today it was annoucned that Swedish helmers Simon Sandquist and Joel Bergvall are now attached as directors to the project, still trapped in development hell. Numerous drafts have been penned and rejected.
The comic is about the education of a bespectacled British boy named Tim Hunter, destined to be one of the greatest practitioners of magic the world has ever seen -- the only question is whether he will practice his magic on the side of good or for evil. DC has published three series chronicling Tim's teen years as he discovers more about sorcery and fantastical creatures.
If you think BOOKS OF MAGIC sound like it could be a kissing cousin to HARRY POTTER, you wouldn't be the first. The first mini-series was published in 1990, well before the first volume of J.K. Rowling's HARRY POTTER hit store shelves.
Neil Gaiman, the writer of the first BOOKS OF MAGIC and the creator of Tim Hunter, will act as executive producer on the project.
Cool - I have all of these and they are GREAT. More grown up and Neilish Harry Potter. I like taht Neil is producing as they will stay true to form that way!

Louisiana Bill Would Ban Low-Slung Pants
BATON ROUGE, La. - A Louisiana state representative wants to make it illegal for people to wear low-slung pants that expose underwear — or more. But he's having trouble getting some of his colleagues to take him seriously.
When the bill came up for debate earlier this week, Rep. Derrick Shepherd, a Democrat from the New Orleans suburb of Marrero, was met with catcalls on the House floor. The bill would make it a crime to wear clothing in public that "intentionally exposes undergarments or intentionally exposes any portion of the pubic hair, cleft of the buttocks or genitals." [

My Day
I stayed home today for interview and mental health purposes. I went over to Stanford and had round 2, which seemed to go well and will know more about that next week. The don't actually pay enough, but they have really good benifits and everyone there seems REALLY happy so it may be worth it.
I contacted the guy from Meyers to see what their pay scale was and he sent back a non-descript e-mail aboutthe pay and then said "we are still evaluating..." to which I say WTF? Monday morning, on my way out, he was saying things like "I would like to hire you! Let me get HR to contact you." So, either I did something in my last 4 seconds, they found something better, or something I don't know about is going on over there. Oh well, I guess I wait and see. I sent back an e-mail asking when they thought they would know by because I am entertaining several options and they are at the top of the list - so we'll see.
This whole process is such a pain in the ass. It would be much easier if I didn't have a job because I wouldn't have to cover stuff up and I am having an absur number of appointments latley. Sigh. I'll keep plugging along though.
Anyway, I'm at home if anyone needs me and I hope you all ar ehaving a wonderful Thursday. I think I'll go for a walk now and enjoy the beautiful day.

Three lawyers and three Engineers are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three lawyers each buy tickets and watch as the three Engineers buy only a single ticket.
"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks a lawyer.
"Watch and you'll see," answers an Engineer.
They all board the train. The lawyers take their respective seats but all three Engineers cram into a toilet and close the door behind them. Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the toilet door and says, "Ticket, please." The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.
The lawyers saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. So (recognizing the Engineers' superior intellect) after the conference, the lawyers decide to copy the Engineers on the return trip and save some money. When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the Engineers don't buy a ticket at all.
"How are you going to travel without a ticket?" says one perplexed lawyer.
"Watch and you'll see," answers an Engineer.
When they board the train the three lawyers cram into a toilet. The three Engineers cram into another one nearby. The train departs.
Shortly afterward, one of the Engineers leaves his toilet and walks over to the toilet where the lawyers are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, "Ticket, please."

Been thinking about it and I wonder if me leaving will seal the deal on this place closing it's doors or not. It would seem silly to get someone in for a month or two if G plans on closing down, but then again, I wouldn't put it past him to screw someone over like that....
WTF of the day
Ok, so yesterday, after lunch, George asks to speak with me. He tells me that the people from the Pet Pantry (a client of ours) have run out of money and the venture capital people are coming here today to have us prove to them that we have delivered what we said we would so that they can pay us.
Fine, whatever.
He then tells me that it is my job to go ahead and prove this to them by showing them *every* feature listed in the specs.
1) The specs are somewhere around 120 pages long.
2) It took me 2 days to make a checklist and run through all of the features last time I had to check this and I have about an hour to show this all to the VC people.
3) I haven't even looked at the site or the standalone program that accompanies it in over 4 months and don't remember most of it.
4) Last time I saw the standalone it didn't work, so I don't know how to use the final parts of it.
And the kicker:
5) Bill and George have known about this meeting for 2 weeks, in which I could have prepared, and Bill chose not to tell me at all, and wasn't going to until today and the only reason that George told me is because he gt an "uncomfortable feeling" from Bill that I did not know about the meeting (which I didn't).
To top things off, Bill has pink eye and is at home so he's gonna have to watch from some MSN interface and isn't even going to be here.
WTF?

Wonka spotting in jolly old England?
An interesting rumor has been published by a Bedforshire, England paper which claims that sightings of actor Johnny Depp have been happening around the town. According to reports Depp is in England right now "filming" WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, and during his time off he's been spotted "in a Land Rover with friends."
The last we heard, filming on WONKA was supposed to kick off sometime this month so it's feasible the Deppster is hanging around Bedforshire when he's not on the set at Pinewood Studios.

Some interesting news
So Sandra pulled me into the bathroom a while ago. (She's the accountant here, in case you did not know, and has worked here for 3 years or so) we got in there and she says, in only the way that Sandra can, "you should look for a new job." Then goes on about how Bill asked George to invest more money in the company, and how George said no, but we aren't even meeting payroll so unless we start making money by August, when the lease runs out, George is going to shut down the company.
Now, mind you, George is the sales guy, so if we don't make money, it's his fault.
Anyway, Sandra was sworn to secrecy, so of course she ran and told me nearly immediately. She apparently asked George when he was going to tell us and he said that he was under no obligation to tell us until closing day.
What an ass.
Oh well, glad I have already been making my move or else that news would really suck.

The new cable guy
This morning's interview went well. The guy at Meyers Internet was nice and he is forwarding me to the HR manager to talk to briefly about my requirements because he would like to bring me "on board".
So now I wait and see if I get one from Argonaut or not and then pick the best offer.
The Meyers one would be more art and more of a production job whereas the Argonaut one is more laid back and more whatever I want to do so I think I would prefer the Argonaut one, but I guess I have to see if they want me and how much and all of that.
And, I still have an interview tomorrow morning at Stanford and a phone interview with someone else early this week.
Hopefully something will work out and I'll make the right decision....

Learning how cookies work
Yeah, I am a dork. I have spent much of my valuable goof-off time latley trying to figure out why I couldn't change the damned font on the blog. Turns out it's a persistant cookie. So, anyway, I figured it out, changed the font and re-named the cookie so you all don't have to delete yours in order to see the change.
Hi, this isn't my job or anything.
However, renaming the cookie did, somehow make it so that you have to refresh the page now if you use the customize tool to up or down your font size (you can always do that) so I think I will reset the cookie names and wait for them all to refresh on your own. (yes, I checked and the name is not called in there anywhere and it just needs to be refreshed manually so it still works and all, but if it is set to the correct name, it refreshes automatically... huh).
If you are impatient, you can delete your cookie for the blog and refresh to see it. (It's just a lower font, nothing to get excited over unless you are a web dork like me...)
Thanks for the tip off, Kev, and if you guys have issue with the size or whatever changes I make, let me know. I am trying to make the blog as visually pleasing as I can, but Iam a sucker for small fonts and such and have no clue what is easy for you all to look at.
Enough rambling! Off to sew for a while before the movie!

Wow - these are cool
These are really neat.

Photo Op
Coachella Photos that I had are online over on the right. We didn't have much photo time as we were all apart all weekend and too busy partying...
More as I get them from others!
re: Here's a neat thing
That's pretty cool - it seems to be relativley on target. Although, being as informed as I am, I looked up a couple people., like TCM, or Pink FLoyd, or whatever and there wasn't much there that I hadn't listened to. Hopefully, this thing will catch on and they can add less popular stuff in there and thereby introduce some new stuff to the mix.
Incidentally, The Crystal Method brought up a lot, but the three closest were interesting: The Propellerheads, Prodigy, and Fluke. Love all of them.
Return of the Raver
Yo. I'm back. Coachella ruled. It also kicked my ass so I'm sure this won' be coherent.
Brief report:
Friday: The ride up. We were supposed to leave at 5:30 and go to Mission Viejo and sleep - then go to PS the next day. We actually left at 8:00 and went straight to a magical condo on a beautiful golf course that Brenden's parents own. RAD. I put my head down at about 11:00, immediately picked it back up and it was 3:30 and we were there. Cool.
Saturday: Meet the heat.
Spent the vast majority of my time in the rave tent. It was hot. DAMN hot. I didn't know that you could sweat out of every pore in your body, but I found out that you can. Everyone else ran around, so I danced my ass off all day/ night. Saw some pixies, went back for more party. Kraftwerk RULES. Go see them if possible - it's worth it for the "sets" alone. 2 hours of parking lot and we were back at the hotel we had checked into.
Sunday: Words cannot describe.
Hotter than the day before and again, spent the day alone running around but mostly partying like it was 1999 in the rave tent.
Monday : The return.
Drove back up - grooved to some rad music - learned the beauty of the White album - had a generally good drive back.
Sleeper hits of the weekend:
Boozoo Bajou and Basement Jaxx. I was expecting some "where's your head at" action, but instead was treated to a jammin' display of all sorts of funktastick goodness.
Overall FRIGGN RADDEST SHOWS EVER:
The Cure - rocked my socks off in their second set (first set was kinda depressing). They played all of those wonderful hits that got them famous, but are usually too cool to play in concert. IT was everything I could have hoped for.
And hands down, all the heat, dealing with the drive and everything else, worth it for that Crystal Method set. *By FAR* the best show I have ever seen.
General consensus: Kicked ass. Good to play with old friends all weekend (even though we spent most of the time apart) - nice to see we still have out concert groove down - and was excited to get to meet some new ones as well.
So, I'm sure there's more stories to come, but that's what I can do for now. Time to go fish up a salad and then hit the hay.
Hope you all are having a wonderful week so far.
